Unfortunately, Ol' Father Time catches up with us all, and has done so with Hopkins a few years ago now.
Landing stats have showed a whole lot more landing from Calzaghe in all his recent fights, so I think you're mistaking connecting with causing damage. I still think Calzaghe's chin would take him through the distance, if not to victory against Pavlik.
Maybe.. but the point I make is Joe makes a hell of a lot of mistakes, and Hopkins made him pay for one, but unfortunately didn't bother fighting for the other 11 rounds. Joe does connect alot yeah, but how many of them do damage? I think there was 1 good punch that honestly hurt hopkins.
I guess a good gauge is how many times did Calzaghe have to
SLAP Lacy to knock him down? 1000+?
Fixed;D

Calzaghe fought kessler...errrrrr, was he not in his prime?
Hopkins was pretty damn good seeing as he bashed up winky and battered the crap out of tarver, at 42 the guy had adapted his game to make him a very tricky fighter, the fact he beat winky and totally destroyed tarver goes to prove how good he was...but he then got beaten by the 'weak, no power slapper' called calzaghe.
Lacy not in his prime?
Reid not in his prime?
Pavlik is 26, most athletes wont be in their prime till they are 30, calzaghe is past his prime, hes 36 years old!
So, let me ask the question...if calzaghe beats pavlik is he still a 'weak, slapping, no power brawler'?
This goes exactly back to the original prediction i made as my very first post on this board:
Calzaghe ends up fight
1. hopkins
2. jones, or the winner of tarver v dawson
3. pavlik
For his final 3 fights.
My prediction was that calzaghe beats all 3 of them and has defeated the best fighters america has had to put against him.
He will retire after having beaten:
1 eubank
2 reid
3 lacy
4 kessler
5 hopkins
6 jones, tarver or dawson
7 pavlik
Yet...hahahahaa even after defeating those great opponents PROVING he is the better fighter...people will still call him a 'weak, slapping, no power brawler'.
HAHAHAHA LETS WAIT N SEE IF MY PREDICTION COMES TRUE;):)
Youve gotta admit though...it is quite funny that if calzaghe does beat them all and my prediction comes true, then its quite funny that people will still insult him.
I guess that makes eubank, reid, lacy, kessler, hopkins, pavlik, jones ALL A PILE OF TOTAL UTTER SH*T!!!
If calzaghe beats pavlik, then surely i can be justfied to call pavlik a SH*T FIGHTER?
Seeing as calzaghe beat kessler, kessler is a SH*T FIGHTER?
Hopkins is a SH*T FIGHTER!
When jones gets beat, he is a SH*T FIGHTER!
Afterall, theyve either been beaten or will be beaten by the 'weak, slapping, no power, brawler'...therefore THEY ARE EVEN WORSE THAN THAT...=======PURE SH*T FIGHTERS!;)
Kessler is a little overrated. The best fighter Calzaghe ever beat was a 43 year old man and that win was controversial.
You are a tosser. You must be from the VD school of utter lack of boxing knowledge. Feck off!
Who? me. I am just pionting out the facts that Kessler is a ok boxer and Joe C best win was agianst a 43 year old man. Joe Calzaghe is like Ohio State. People think they are all that but they don't really play anyone tuff.
Re: Pavlik's trainer Jack Loew slams the Calzaghe camp.
WHo's resume is better. Calzaghe's or Jones Jr. Maybe I should remind you they never faced each other 10 years ago right around the same time when Jones knocked a guy down a few times in one round and was never hit. This was in a title match. Probably the greatest round in boxing history. Roy Jones Jr is the greatest fighter I have ever scene. I was a joy watching this Leonardo DaVinci of boxing do is art work. It was a beautiful thing to watch.

If I were to die today the first thing I would ask the lord is if I could watch a Sugar Ray Robinson Fight Roy Jones Jr. and Kelly Pavlik fight Marvin Hagler.

At his peak RJJ was the greatest boxer in the world, perhaps one of the top 10 all-time greats, but the fact is, however good a boxer he was, he sullied his own reputation by not knowing when to call it a day and when he didn't have all the skills he had when he was doing that.

He landed around 350-400, some woman interviewer got it wrong when interviewing JC after the fight, by misquoting the thrown punches, and the myth has stuck ever since.

"I see where Lockett has become inspired by Joe Calzaghe's victory over Bernard Hopkins in his U.S. debut and is predicting the same result against Kelly. Maybe Enzo Calzaghe can teach Lockett to slap like a girl -- just like Joe," said Loew.
"You can get away with that style of fighting against a 43-year-old geezer, but don't try that against Kelly. That's how rockets crash and burn. Kelly is having a camp that is second to none. We didn't work this hard to win the title just to have Lockett and his troubadour trainer take it away from us. Kelly is going to launch Lockett back to Wales...without a plane."
Pavlik (33-0, 29 KOs), from Youngstown, OH, makes his first title defense against mandatory challenger Lockett (30-1, 21 KOs), from Cwmbran, Wales, Saturday, June 7, at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Frank Warren's Sports Network and Caesars Atlantic City, the Pavlik-Lockett world middleweight championship will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 9:35 p.m. EDT / 6:35 p.m. PDT in the U.S.
bernard and joe was just a clash of styles it was joes first fight at the weight and in my opinion bernard is th best spoiler in the world but after the third round it all changed. bernard didnt like how quick joe was changing his style and couldnt do what he normally does because joes inside work (grappling) was superb.
i personaly think kelly pavlik is a unschooled wild version of the beast that is mikkel kessler if joe fights kelly pavlik, pavlik want be able to deal with the amount of punches coming at him. pavlik likes to set him self and joe wont let him do it.

If you have ever scene Pavlik fight he doesnt set he pushes. He throws any where from 80- 120 punches a round. He is a way more sound boxer than Kessler. Going by how strait and accurate his punches are. If he was crazy he would loop his punches and throw off balance. He does neither. Joe cannot hurt Pavlik at all. Just like he could not hurt Hopkins with his slaps. Its a joke watching Calzaghes style. The only reason Calzaghe won is because he was busier than Hopkins. Hopkins landed the better shots. To think Pavlik wont be busy and wont land way harder shots than Kessler is undereducated. Joe is a overrated champ. He never fought RJJ , Toney , of Hopkins 10 years ago. Calzaghe just stayed hidden in the confines of Wales. Pavlik by knockout. Joe hits like a bitch.

Pavlik vs. Calzaghe
He even has Joe's slapping style.

I in no way think Pavlik is a lesser version of Kessler. Kessler was a spotlight fighter only when he fought Calzaghe and he lost. Kessler does not apply the same type of pressure Pavlik does. Kessler died down in the sight of adversity and Pavlik rises to the occasion when faced with the same problem. Pavlik is not a wild fighter! He throws punches in bunches, but he knows what he is throwing. He doesn't blindly flail away at his opponent. And also, you said Pavlik wouldn't like the amount of punches Joe throws at him, IMO, Joe won't like the amount and TYPE of punches thrown at him.
SOUTHAKRON314! I say the exact same thing! I like where your head is at!

you're a moron, I agree Pavlik is a helluva fighter and IMO it's 50/50 with Calzaghe, but you call the criticism of Pavlik uneducated then you go into a rant about how bad Joe with nothing to back it up.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to join the others who disagree with you on this one. No doubt Pavlik is a great fighter, and is exciting to watch, however, he's a natural middleweight, and as with every fighter moving up, it's unsure whether he'd bring the power with him, and whether the move up in weight would make him sluggish. PAvlik's got the better KO ratio, but Kessler's isn't too shabby either.
As for the chin, Pavlik's been down twice in his career (that I'm aware of), and Kessler's never been down. And when Pavlik went down against Taylor, he was on really shaky legs for a while, so for me the better chin goes to Kessler. Kessler's footwork is fairly basic, but in terms of being a sound boxer, Kessler is no less sound than Pavlik.

Well I mean you can pick yo want in a dogfight if you want.... Vegas scoring
Anyway, I just simply said I would take Kessler over Pavlik with nothing to back it up. Okay I will. Kessler is a very sound boxer, technically he has a great jab. Kessler is by far more technicial than Kelly. I really don't think that is debatable. Now I am just saying I prefer the stronger, better skilled boxer over the pressure fighting of a questionably chinned Pavlik (and I never thought JT was that strong of a puncher). Sometimes it works that way, sometimes it will work the other way.
I will concede that we have yet to see Kessler fight since Calzaghe, so you may in fact have the safer bet.
