He did fight alot of great HW's, not good ones, great ones, and he just destroyed them.
We dont look at that era as a great one for HW's for one simple reason, most of those guys barely made Holmes sweat, his hardest fight in his prime was actually probably Cobb, for no other reason then this, Cobb wouldnt go the hell down and stay there. Nobody knew,or knows to this day what in the hell was keeping him upright. Cosell quit announcing boxing over that fight.
Larry didnt have the Ali ability to just make you look foolish, or that Tyson 1 punch and its over,he was somewhere in the middle
I can't think of one 'Great' Heavyweight that Holmes fought between 1978 and 1985, lots of 'Good' Ones
Larry Holmes's career could be compared to Lennox Lewis career in some ways.
Ken Norton------Evander Holyfield
Muhammad Ali------- Mike Tyson
Gerry Cooney------- Andrew Golota

It could be compared in a lot of other ways too, but they would be favourable to Lewis. I put Holmes ahead of Lewis, but on paper Lewis has the better resume imo. As I have always said there have only been 2 great eras of Heavyweight boxing,- Early Seventies, and Early -Mid nineties

He would be a cracking Cruiserweight though, can you imagine Rocky Marciano vs Evander Holyfield at Cruiserweight ? Wow is all i can say.
couldnt imagine many more fights batter than that one
when we discuss top 10 heavys maybe we should class the smaller heavys from yrs back in the weights they would be today?
Or we could call them the POUND FOR POUND Heavyweights taking into account the various era's lol:beerchug:

Lewis was lucky to catch a Bruno past his best.
Cooper fought Ali twice
Hide had aweome hand speed and power and woul have beat Lewis.
;D Only joking ;D
Form me Lewis lost twice against opponents who he shouldn't have lost to which for me will always put him further down the list than he should have been
1. Muhammad Ali
2. Larry Holmes
3. Joe Frazier
4. Joe Louis
5. Lennox Lewis
I think lewis got caught by a once in a lifetime shot from mccall & he hadnt aclimaitized for the rahman fight. I mean he knocked the f**k ouut rahman in rematch & made oliver mccall cry, what more could he do.
I don't think he could any more, i just think he's never going to hold right at the top because of them defeats

But regardless of the ifs or why's, the two fighters at 1 & 2 on ya list both got beat by fighters they shouldnt have,
Eg Ali vs Leon Spinx, then there was Larry Holmes VS Brother Michael Spinx both defeats they deffo should not have suffered .... what dya think bud:beerchug:

This is a difficult one, Louis and Frazier were both GREAT fighters from a historical point of view , but i think Lewis would beat both of them easily , so are we judging them from a historical point of view or as if they were all in the same era ?

1 Muhammad Ali
2 Joe Louis
3 Larry Holmes
4 George Foreman
5 Lennox Lewis
6 Jack Johnson
7 Rocky Marciano
8 Evander Holyfield
9 Jack Dempsey
10 John Ruiz
Took a while here - based it on who I believe would beat who in head to heads
Looks about right to me

Best I can come up with is to say pound for pound heavyweights historicaly ... now that should create some debate lol ... saying that .. re Lewis I really believe he woulda done the job in any era against any heavyweight at his best:beerchug:

Well as i said maybe Lewis loses to a few in the list , but out of 3 fights he betters them , in my opinion.;D

Great point made re three fights ... Lennox was one of the best learners out there who always fought better when edgy re his opponent .. when he had a little fear ... that always brought out the best in the guy:beerchug:

Re: Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ???
Like when he fought a past his best Tyson ... Lennox still had that bit of fear even though his mother and the world knew Tyson really had no more than a punchers chance at best ... yet I still saw that bit of respect and fear in Lennox, but that which brought out his best:beerchug:

I posted this on another thread, but it seems more relevant here. A video list of all the REAL heavyweight Champions.

Rocky marciano isn't a heavyweight anymore. if marciano was 6'5" and 255 lbs he would ko lewis faster than rahman did. Lennox lewis had a distinct size and weight advantage in most of his fights. Rocky marciano had a distinct height and weight disadvantage in most of his fights. Big difference.

Size advantages have nothing to do with it ,are we saying Lewis at 255lbs was the best HW ?

Re: Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ???
I'm saying you can't compare marciano to lewis.

No ya cant .. but on that basis alone just man to man as they wouldve been in there prime, for me Lennox leaves Rocky for dead,
So does that make the modern day heavyweight generally greater because of evolution & development down the years .. interesting point me thinx ?????:beerchug:

Everyone was smaller back then. Humans are now grow bigger because advances in health and nutrition. If Lennox Lewis born when Rocky Marciano was born then he would have been like 6'2 210lbs.
So its like inflation and you have to account for that. When you compare the richest man alive in 1950 vs the Richest man alive today; you cantautomatically say todays rich man is richer, simply because he has more money.

Looks about right to me
This is a good list.
I dunno about Ruiz though. Ive always had Tyson hanging on to No.10 with his Unification efforts. No one to this day has done what he did.
However i did say if Wlad Unified id have to put him in at 10 which i now do.
Also Lewis is very hard to place (Somewhere in between Foreman, Johnson and Marciano).
I personally like to have him 4th as Foreman (despite the comeback) was actually a bit of a flash in the pan IMO.
My list would be
1 Muhammad Ali
2 Joe Louis
3 Larry Holmes
4 Lennox Lewis
5 Jack Johnson
6 George Foreman
7 Rocky Marciano
8 Evander Holyfield
9 Jack Dempsey
10 Wladamir Klitchsko
