Just not sure.Think for what Ornelas lacks in skill and speed,he makes up for in grit and durability that Dawson does not seem to show all the time.Think Hopkins could cause Dawson bad problems in close,in the trenches.

Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
They could at least show the full round before they go to adverts.

Round 9

Hopkins keeping the jab in Ornelas' face seems to nullify any attack another strong right for Hopkins. Ornelas tries to smother and lands a nice shot. Ornelas looking to have a little confidence, but his legs aren't fresh at all, call me crazy, but I gave the one to Ornelas.

Hopkins has been warming up more as the fight has gone on, but I'm still not sure about where he is at. Same old Hopkins, just older and older.

Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
I think his timing and legs are there.....but as has been my problem last few yrs...so is the waiting and appreciating his own work too much.He really has had Ornelas in check for last half of fight, cat and mouse.Think he might close it IF he pushed it.Has not relied entirely on right hand also, good mix.

Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
Clear win for Hopkins, he gradually went up a gear or two. He actually looked impressive in the 12th. He looked alright, I guess.
-
Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
Hopkins thinks Australia is in Europe.
-
Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
I had that 118-110 for Hopkins, only could really give Ornelas rounds 1 & 4. I think he could've taken him out, but I suspect like Mayweather against Marquez, he held back a bit to get the rounds in. This wasn't as impressive as that though, Ornelas is much better than many give him credit for, I thought he beat McKart, Soliman & Rubio & I would consider him a similar calibre of opponent to Danny Green.
Man, watching Jones there is painful. Haha @ Hopkins, no way is the Jones-Hopkins fight going to happen, it's Roy's own fault for not throwing back. B-Hop's take on geography is a bit lacking, he seems to think Australia is in Europe :-\
-
Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
I just spent 12 rounds respecting Hopkins the fighter....now it wavered big watching that interview,man...:-X...he is pissed Roy got stopped.
-
Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
Did I just hear that right Hopkins call Australia europe? :vd:
-
Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
;D
So did he look old or rusty? Or both? Or maybe Ornelas looked good, I'm going to download it soon.

Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
Hopkins saying that RJJ was a questionable stoppage and still wants to fight. I don't think the reality of what happened to Jones has come in.
He gives Ornelas credit for landing some nice shots and then says "I'm going to be heavyweight champ of the world in 2010" and then with extra emphasis "HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP"

Yeah that was Caiz Jr. only gave Ornelas credit for one drawn round.

Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
I only just realised the ref in the Jones/Green fight was Howard Foster, top bloke Howard use to talk to him alot on Facebook. ;D
WTF was he doing in Oz?? Must of been paid well.

Haha, typical American grasp of geography! ;D
I kind of agree with Hopkins about the Jones Jr fight. I think it was a bit premature, but Jones just wouldn't throw anything. A bit frustrating really.
-
Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
Hopkins was the same old Hopkins. He started very slowly, but had his opponent throwing less and gradually landed more and more. He actually looked decent down the stretch, but he looked bigger than his opponent at all times. It was like a puffed up sparring session with Hopkins in control.

I'll challenge you to a geography quiz anyday.
I would have stopped the fight too. RJJ looked like a saw horse position after the knockdown. A puncher like Green unloading with nothing coming back from Roy, what's the point? He just collapsed from a glancing blow. The Hopkins of tonight, stops the Jones of tonight within 4 rounds.
-
Re: Hopkins vs. Ornelas official thread
Hopkins clearly won the fight. I had it 118-110. You could of probably of given Ornelas 4 rounds of the fight.
Hopkins was rusty the first few rounds which was expected but stepped it up after round 5.
Ornelas was very tough and landed a few nice shots, Hopkins still has some pop, He was able to hurt Ornelas a few times.

You might well know your geography, but I would take on Hopkins in a flash! His only chance would be to flail at me headfirst while I ponder my answer.
I've no complaints with any of your points about the Jones fight really, it was a sorry affair.

It may be hard to recall the capital of Ethiopia while getting uppercutted with a chin on the back of your head.
