If Funeka weighed over 145 the fight could still happen (I guess) but Funeka would forfeit the right to fight for a world title as well.
It's not that unfair to Funeka, it's just he's obviously still trying to fight in accordance with the rules for the right to win the belt, whereas Guzman obviously doesn't give a fuck.
It will be interesting to see if Funeka does weigh under the limit or if he comes in heavy and gives up the title opportunity to enhance his winning chances against a much heavier and cheating opponent.
What are you talking about? Funeka made weight at 135 yesterday.
That's what I would figure. I've never heard of a sanctioning body having a restriction on what a fighter can rehydrate to for the unofficial weight in order to still fight for the belt..
Especially if they weren't checking weight before the fight at 7 and 30 days.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
I am a fan of Joan Guzman but it is really hard too root for him, when crap like this keeps happening. I am still rooting for him though like Fenster will be.

I've never heard of that either, but they must have something in place, as Bilbo says, to say that you can't rehydrate past 145 for the 135 IBF title. Who knows. Its absolutely not beyond the realms of possibility that the IBF started makin their own rules. Hell, we'll probably have different types of Boxing in another 20 years time evolved from different boxing organisations.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
I stand corrected Bilbo was absolutely right. According to the IBF contest rules.

Now I got egg on my face, I fully admit I was wrong. This isn't a bad rule by any means as it kinda helps prevent use of diuretics. How the hell this didn't affect Josh Clottey in his IBF bid against Judah I'll never know.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
This is just ridiculous & unprofessional by Guzman, up until about the Soto fight he was 1 of my favourite fighters but he has pretty much been a let down ever since that win... I hope Funeka smashes him!!!
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
Guzman still won't win. He'll have stamina problem.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
The weigh-in video is on boxingscene.com. You can see Beard and the other guy exchanging looks as Guzman is getting ready to go on the scales. They know what's coming, it's really sleazy when you're watching it knowing what's coming. I hope Funeka beats the living shit out of him. Guzman's career is over now, no promoter is going to go near him again, even GBP won't be able to make any big fights for him. I just hope he doesn't manage to damage Funeka due to the extra weight tonight. Shitbag.

the dude is an asshole, funny how he said that his mom begged him to retire, and that his supposed reason that he didn't was cause of his love for the sport, then this happens, hope Funeka clocks him
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
hopefully guzman if he clearly wins this gets robbed! Shit funeka shouldn't have to do this again, especially with guzman comming in 9 freakins pounds overweight thats ridicelousa, that ,makes it seem like he wasn't even trying.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
Guzman is a piece of sewerage and Shaw is a cnut for putting his fighter in against a middleweight after he'd drained to make 135. I want Guzman to have one more TV fight, hopefully against somebody like Maidana so I can watch the cnut get splattered, he richly deserves it. He knew he'd lose again at 135 so he deliberately went in at the weight he did. The IBF should be ashamed for not monitoring his weight, Guzman and his trainer should be banned.
