Not really a fair comparison with England being roughly the size of New York. If Hatton fans were Bradley fans driving to Michigan from the California They'd have to drive from England to Turkey.
I think he meant they were able to bring way more than 500 people across the pond to vegas and whereever else they fought...
Hatton brought over 20,000 for Floyd and around 10,000 for Pac. Incredible.

I am saying that English fans travelled much further than that and in greater numbers. I know things are tough and understand, but less than 500 paying punters is sorely lacking. It's a great matchup, such poor numbers for such an enticing fight.
Good reasons have been given as to why the numbers are so poor, but it's still a poor reflection on the fanbases the two fighters have. They should have more devoted fans than this.
I definitely agree with you. It is a very poor showing but Americans are naturally more lazy because they are spoiled with conveniences. Why make such a long the trip when they can just turn on HBO and sit down with a beer behind that 60" HD screen. Put this fight in Vegas and it does at least what Mar/Kas did. English fans are great for promoters, if Matthew Hatton were fighting in Vegas, I'm sure he'd bring across a few or more thousand too.
The way I see it is, if the population of the US, were crammed into California, I believe it would be more patriarch and rebellious like England is around it's boxing personalities. Filling a Stadium would be like starting a fight in a crowed mall at Christmas. Put on popular fighters in Hawaii and there are people just looking for reasons to get out for a breather. Let's not forget the weather as a motivator.

The promoters said they wanted to put the fight on in a city with a large black population. Thinking it would sell better. I think it came down to Detroit or Atlanta. Atlanta would've been better IMO.
Emanuel Steward predicted a few weeks back that the fight wouldn't sell. He said Detroit has never been a Boxing city but rather a Kronk city.

Honestly if plane tickets weren't $900 right now, I would book a flight there this minute, this is the kinda stuff that would make for a great Saddo meet-up we could even buy a few homes while we're out there.
I have a friend that was at a trade show in Detroit about a month ago he said downtown was creepy as hell, and like nothing he had ever seen. It wasn't like there were thugs, there was NOONE there it was like a scene from a post apocalyptic movie. All the businesses were boarded up, lights were out everywhere. It's just a wasteland.
Why they would book a flight there I have no idea.

As for Detroit, I have a couple of friends who went there about a year ago and absolutely loved it. They are... odd.

Poor Location. Silverdome. I lived on South Blvd for 3 months last year. Thats about 1 mile from the Silverdome. Silverdome is on Opdike Road. Borderline of Auburn Hills and Pontiac. That has to be the most pathetic place in the world. Its not in Detroit. Kind of far to be honest. Cold, miserable, Grey, no sunshine. Crime around that area is not like in Detroit. Old factories and fast food joints everywhere. Its not in the hood because the area is mixed with white and black people. Just a depressed area. Stadium is grey just like the area. Big half million dollar home selling for about 90 thousand. I will be there only because I got a girlfriend around the corner. Then back to New Jersey. That place is a joke. Why not Atlantic City. Dont let the weather be bad like it usually is. may have 30 people there. Watch and see. Bad Bad Bad decision on the Location. Fight should be good though.

It seems pointless to put this fight in a place that's going through a really tough time economically. I understand Bradley not wanting to do it in St. Louis, but why not somewhere a bit more high profile? Surely it could have done better in Vegas or somewhere? Bradley put on his twitter the other day that they've sold 2000 tickets. Very low for a fight of this magnitude

JMM v Katasidis drew a small crowd for that fight but Arum says that low attendances are common, that Leonard and Hagler fought on the same bill and only about 4,000 came to watch.

That number is typical for a big fight in Vegas. It takes the news media and the like to create cross-over interest in a fight. Olympic known fighters have the advantage when it comes to being a cross-over star. Promoter's don't have the formula on how to create a cross-over star although that is exactly what they want everyone to believe.
No one ever expected Staples to sellout (over 20K) for Margarito / Mosley because Mosley was getting old but it's a huge Latino market in Los Angeles. Black vs Hispanic makes a lot of drama, is as good a guess as anything that caused it to sell so well.

Wow I didn't realise Detroit was in such a poor state! As for this fight, had it been promoted well enough I would have expected it to sell out in Vegas or at least do good numbers. Boxing needs an injection in the States it seems!
As for a worldwide draw it is doing fine. It's second only to Football in worldwide viewers and a fact that surprised me a bit is that Japan who are so big on the Martial Arts actually watch more boxing than MMA and the only sport with more viewers over there is Sumo Wrestling!!
Bradley-Alexander should have been on a Toshiaki Nishioka undercard in japan :D
