Right, everyone who doesn't admit that Floyd is the most talented/gifted boxer to ever lace up a pair of gloves must therefore be a "hater".

I've just never been a fan of, or all that interested in Mayweather or his fights, and a big part of that is because of the way this clown acts. I guess must not be a "true" fan of the sweet science or i'd be a flomo.

P.S. Ortiz kissing and hugging Mayweather had to be one of the most sickening things i've ever witnessed in boxing.

Love how Floyd winds you up so much these days that you forget your own previous posts. i distinctly remember you saying before floyd signed for mosley that he was ducking him and youd have respect if he signed as that was the only other fight worth making. surprise surprise miles is going senile and has forgotten lolz!

Reminds me of when daxx said that baldomir was gonna "steamroll" floyd because he was too small and then cussed him out for the victory. its one big LOL in here sometimes!

I do get amnesia with some of my previous posting. About 1 month is my limit for remembering things and I even have this weird habit of starting a thread with the same topic about once a year. It totally flies over me.

However, I am not a massive Floyd fan and see no sense in hiding that.

But you do dislike him for reasons that have nothing to do with boxing, and go to lengths to hide that imo. How come Toney get's such a pass from you Miles, is it simply because people dont rate him as highly? He's just as much of an assclown as Mayweather is surely?

I know how you feel i get amnesia full stop. A couple of days ago i wrote in a reply to the Fury -Povetkin thread that if Fury ever met Mcdermott, Mcdermott would knock him out, after which i was asked would that be third time lucky then ? What makes it worse is that i watched both previous Fury - Mcdermott fights and then had a long enough brain fart to forget both and spout my gob off :p

Watching Floyd-Gatti right now on ESPN Classic.

I am not feeling too bored.

Of course, Gatti brings energy but Mayweather's technical superiority is what makes it a fight to watch.


... btw, Floyd hits Arturo in first round on a fuzzy break and scores a knockdown. Precursor to Ortiz fight - Floyd doesn't give any latitude in the break -

No, Toney is pure entertainment. He is better to watch than Mayweather and though a little slurred is a far more intelligent human being too. Plus we have never seen James Toney duck opponents. A true warrior. Even if you don't like Toney, you can't knock how he will taken on anybody.

I warm to James Toney, Mayweather just leaves me cold.

I am usually at my most fiery too after a dash of shandy, so if you see a slightly high number of aggressive and hateful adjectives, then you know it is just a drunken rant. I forget them more easily too.

Why does someone feel that Floyd is boring? Maybe they don't like his style and have a preference for another style. There's your answer. Different tastes, different likes and dislikes.

FWIW, I do like Floyd's style but I'm not going to question people about why they might not like that particular brand of fighting and then call people "haters" for not liking it. Just like people who likes the NFL doesn't like Michael Vick's particular style of QB but might prefer a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady style of being a qb or vice versa.

He isn't going to to be, but even now he still has just as much output as Floyd and I am mega excited about his fight with Lebedev. I couldn't say the same about Mayweather/Ortiz. But that doesn't get past the fact that I enjoy watching Toney fight and fall asleep watching Floyd. Of course Toney isn't operating on Floyd's level these days, but he's in his mid 40's. Hey fair enough, I'm really hopeful Toney can pull it off tomorrow as well and wish I could watch. I really don't get enjoying Toney of late though if Floyd puts you to sleep.. He simply does not have as much output as Mayweather has over the last few years and defensively they are the closest thing to each other in the sport skill wise. I wasn't excited about Mayweather/Ortiz either but it was pretty good action until the end, which I don't blame Mayweather for in the slightest myself.

I would have preferred Mayweather to finish it properly. A bit of a short change ending with the sucker punch.

As for Mr Toney, I think it is also the continued fascination with seeing an older man continue to display slickness, chin and an ability to win. He throws combinations on occasion too which is something Floyd almost never does anymore. His only loss in recent times was that second loss to Peter as Toney clearly won the first fight and Toney is so much smaller than EVERYONE he ever fights. This fight is something new in that regard. Toney is finally in with a man his own size.

I would have preferred that as well of course, but Ortiz was the one who threw boxing out the window really imo.. Very few pro's are going to feel obligated to play nice with a guy who is headbutting like that, and fwiw given Ortiz mental breakdown with the kissing and shit afterwards I don't think he would've been in the fight much longer anyways. The first fight with Peter was great, and that was the last good fight of Toney's to which I was referring. Lebedev is really just tough and crude, not a patch on Toney skill wise; the odds on that one puzzle me even despite Toney's looking so poor for a few years. Makes me wonder(though I hope not) if the weight loss hasn't done Toney any good. I've only seen that clip of him hitting mitts, but obviously the bookies will have an idea of how he's been holding up in sparring etc. 6 to 1, given the disparity in talent is quite odd to me.

Yes, that's a huge price and I can't make head nor tail of it. Lebedev wasn't looking that great against a completely shot Jones Jr and though Toney hasn't done a great deal for a couple of years, he has been hanging with big men who throw big punches. I also think he deserved the win over Rahman in their second fight. He was looking sharp early on in that one and though he struggled a little with Oquendo, I still think he won that fight. His last couple have been gimmies really. Just easy wins over bums.

This is a bit of a step up and I am a little nervous, but I can't wait to see Toney fighting a meaningful fight again.

I'm not debating the legality of those cheap shots by Floyd, perfectly legal. But to tell everyone for years that you're making certain moves for the good of boxing? That wasn't for the good of boxing. To tell people that you are the greatest of all time (he states he's better than Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson) and then have to win like that? Not buying it. If you're the greatest of all time, you shouldn't have to take cheap shots like that. No one in the consensus to 10 greatest boxers of all time won any of their fights on a cheap shot. Maybe got some decisiions they didnt deserve, but didn't take cheap shots that resulted in a fight ending and didn't rob boxing fans of their purchase. Again, perfectly legal, but give me a break.

Well to be fair given how many times Robinson fought he may well have had fights that ended not unlike that, we wouldn't really know. Moreso though I think it's Ortiz headbutting that is quite rare in that level of prizefight, so you can't really say who would or wouldn't have retaliated that way.. Blatant headbutts are a serious foul and if you're going to do that against someone who prides themself on not taking punishment you should at the very least expect to defend yourself afterwards surely.. I will not give you a break, good day sir!

I just said I wasn't debating the legality. I didn't say Ortiz was right in what he did. At the very least Ortiz should have had two points deducted or for that matter disqualified. But those were cheap shots and I'm willing to bet Robinson didn't win ANY of his fights like that. Muhammad Ali was an ass at times but he never had to dole out cheap shots to win fights. Mike Tyson was a thug on the streets but never threw cheap shots to win a fight (he was disqualified in the bite fight but no cheap shots). So your argument it mute sir. Vs Ortiz - action packed 4 rounds and controversial ending. dissapointing but not boring.

Vs Mosley - offensive masterclass. 2nd round drama. no way boring

Vs Marquez - never understood people calling this boring. Amazing offensive and defensive display of boxing. the purists would have been in awe (im not talking about the weight issue here)

VS Hatton - scrappy but filled with action. awesome round 8 and and a sweet ending.

Vs ODLH - take away the hype and this fight a pretty damn good chess match where Floyd came closest to losing. think back to when you were watching it. You cant have been bored.

Ok so what fight and specifically why in that fight did you find floyd boring?
