He only failed at the very top. I knew Mayweather Senior was a mistake, when things go bad around him, the blame always belongs to someone else.
That's absolute loser speak. "When things go bad for him, the blame always belongs to someone else"?? Really??
I thought Ricky looked a million bucks when he fought Paulie. He outboxed him, stepped in and out, even had some resemblance of defence and patience that he didn't have with Billy Graham.
Ricky's problem has and always will be his ego. This is why I worry for his comeback. Sure, some of you are saying he would still be better and more credible than most fighters with a boxing licence today. While this is true, it's the level that Ricky will think he can fight at which worries me. You think Ricky will stick to the domestic scene or fringe contenders? Remember that this is the same guy that said things like : "No way Floyd knocks me out, when was the last time you knocked someone out?" or "I'm bigger than Floyd so I'll be able to bully him"
He thought the same thing about Pacquiao and got absolutely iced. Mayweather Sr was a convenient scapegoat. Regardless of how well camp went, Sr would never have sent him out there to with that ridiculous gameplan.
If he is to come back, he needs a team around him that will give him 100% honesty about his limits because he can't seem to see them.
Mayweather Sr conducted himself disgracefully running up to the Pacquiao fight, Mocking Roach's disability and then saying dumb things, like calling Hatton "the Italian stallion".
The guy has gotten thrown out of his own son's gym and yet you think he had some master gameplan that would have completely reinvented Ricky Hatton? give me a break:-\
The arrogance required to think that you can judge at what level he can fight at and what his limits are, is pretty breathtaking in itself, but to then suggest that the problem is with his ego and lack of humility is laughable. "Domestic and fringe contenders"?

Hatton would want to fight Pacquiao again why?

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
If Hatton does decide to have one last go, I'm gonna keep a glimmer of hope that it will be with Billy Graham, just for the good times, one more stab at it. Billy Graham was a top top fella and what they shared was simply brilliant and a partnership I'll never forget.

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
You've got to hope that it's Khan he's fighting, if Ricky has anything left in his footwork he has a chance to get inside Khan and land a nice hook on that glass jaw. If he could do it to Paulie he can do the same with Khan. That's saying that Ricky has anything left, he likley does not :(

He'll never be back at an elite level. Expect a pre Kosta type career culminating on a stoppage to the likes of Khan at best.
What evidence is there that Hatton's "bad living" has harmed him? Until he comes back we will not know. Being out-of-shape during his career never effected him. In fact the penultimate fight of his career was one of his very best.
Just recently we've seen Eric Morales retire, spend three years as a big fat guy, return in a weight-class 20 pounds north of his best, yet hold his own in world-class.
33 seems pretty old when you're 23 but trust me it ain't.
I'd bet anything Hatton would take qutting on his school against Powderpuff Paulie, let alone Khan in a literally ginormous British fight, as his lasting ring memory rather than the current one - humiliated, lying flat on his back unconcious.
33 isn't old for a hard living, pressure fighting boxer at an elite level? Fuck me... ;D
I'll say it again, the only place Hatton would plan on taking a comeback is the bank.

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
Hatton comes back to be promoted by Matchroom instead of his own promotional outfit? That would be a bigger shock than the actual comeback.

I wish Tyson went back to Rooney (and I get a blow job from some fit twins) but life does not always work out that great.

Wishful thinking but it's something I thought about too. Same with Tyson, same with Naz and Ingle. Thing is we never know what happens fully behind the scenes and chances are their relationships are broken beyond repair.

It's been three days since this was posted a least, still no word. I wonder what's happening.

Would you want to see him without an ego? That's a good definition of a loser! Look around, anyone worth a damn has a strong belief in themselves!
What everyone is trying to get across to you, is that Mayweather was the worst pick possible as a trainer for Hatten. Taking Hatten's fearlessness and fighting spirit into account, I doubt any trainer could have changed the outcome of that matchup. I could have done without Mayweather's mouth though, thank you much! I have no respect for Mayweather's Sr and his stint with Hatten only increased my dislike.

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
ı thınk you are understımatıng Hatton. Yes 33 ıs on the downward sıde of the raınbow for hıs weıght class and the way he has lıved and fought wıth pressure. But I really thınk ıts easy to count hım out at thıs poınt and that ıs jumpıng the gun. Khan doesnt have a chance agaınst Hatton. I can see Rıcky fıghtıng 3 maybe 4 fıghts and then retırıng agaın. And I say he wıns them all.

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
His biggest fight will be getting back into a ring. Its one thing being hungry for chips and beer, the hunger he needs to fight has to outgrow the other one.

or the more likely outcome now, if Paulie is able to outbox Hatton and just school him, he's coming off one of the best performances of his career and has a strap at 147, so his confidence has to be sky high, Hatton on the other hand...

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
Apparently he may return for 2 fights and we can all take a wild guess on those: Malinaggi & Khan
I think Hatton is well past it, he'll have trouble making weight, he'll be easier to hit, and he won't pack the same stamina or punching power. Who will train him?
-
Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
I think the Hatton people are just throwing Paulie's name out there. If he does come back he'll fight somebody he can beat at the MEN and then if the fight shows he's got anything left he'll think about fighting somebody like Paulie.

Who would he fight before/instead of Malinaggi? Someone like Theophane maybe?

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
I read today Hatton has lost 34lb while in training, only another 120lb to go,
i think this is a terrible decision no matter who he faces.:(

Re: Ricky Hatton apparently making an annoucnment on future in 3 days
My son talks to Malinaggi, I will ask him to ask him if he is going to fight Hatton. :)

Good and that makes sense, if Lennox did the same the exact same rumours would start.

Well it has generated a lot of interest so in that sense it has worked.

Nobody British. Some foreign has-been fossil. Lovemore N'Dou or somebody like that. Maybe not N'Dou as the British board probably wouldn't license him. Some ancient lightweight or 140 pounder to fight Ricky at 147.

The only ego stroking I can detect here is from @TitoFan liking your comment. Has Ricky said openly that he is coming back?
It's called projection. People prejudge the personality of others and then project there own biased prejudices onto them. You don't like him, Titofan doesn't like him ,therefore you both deem it arrogant of him to get in shape and stoke talk of a comeback, despite the fact that he has not announced anything.
