You know the title means nothing in real terms, Dawson is the best then you have Cloud, Pascal and Hopkins et al. Nathan is not in that league yet.

Basically Calzaghe hardly fought anyone, and if froch did the same he would be 80-0 undefeated!
The way I see it and yes I am pro froch. Frochs 2 losses are the equivalent of calzaghes undefeated record!!
Smoke that! Dig it!
He also stopped Robin Reid, a guy who many feel beat Calzaghe. So what?
Not that it matters... But my point is that styles and contrxt make fights... To over simplify boxing is just stupid.
Thats a myth, even reid admitted he lost:
Reid said: "I can't argue with the decision. Joe was the better boxer on the night and I knew I could not catch him for speed."
When carl fought reid, reid was done! He was 37 and two years prior was beatdown by lacy! Reid did badly hurt froch in that fight at some point however and to this day carl say's reid is the hardest puncher he ever fought! So calzaghe winning a close fight over prime reid proves nothing really, and besides calzaghe was basically operating one handed and supposedly suffering from a dose of food poisoning too! Calzaghe at his worst still beat reid!
Reis is underrated though. Reid was rated in the ring mag top 10 for 7 years. He only got knocked down and out by Jeff Lacy and froch when he was shot, Lacy would never have put Reid down in his prime and in fact I reckon Reid would have done him. Froch v PRIME reid would have been a close scrap too...
If Reid was not deducted and faced such a poor bias ref he would have beat Sven.
Had Reid have won he would have been a two time, three belt winning world champion..
Reid was honestly just outside the 10 ten best 168 fighters ever. Go watch benn and eubanks very close fights with the talented henry wharton then go watch reid do a number on him and then tell me reid wasn't on there level! Inconsistant at times but on his day a top 168lb fighter!
The first knockdown against Lacy for Reid came while the ref was shouting stop. The ref shouts stop 3 times and Reid is looking and talking to the ref, Lacy looks at the ref, then back to Reid and winds up a huge right hook and cracks it on the side of Reids face while Reod is still being told to stop by the ref! He then goes down on a knee in a delayed reaction amd the ref warns Reid for using his head but says fuck all to Lacy for hotting during a break.
Lacy also goes on his ass and the ref helps him up! That fight was a joke. Reid wasnt looking great but was getting in to ot until that shit cheap shot. Up until then some big punchers had bounced their best shots off Reids chin and not moved him. It was a joke.
My thoughts reading the last page are that Carl Froch would be deservedly pissed off if he logged on here, and read the thread about him announcing his next fight, to find it filled with talk of Calzaghe, Reid and Cleverly.
Carl's put in so many hard performances in hostile arenas against the best in the division that he deserves the home fight, and he deserves a big crowd to come and watch him beat a game opponent, and have a nice big easy payday before Christmas. Maybe he can use that money to buy a ball-gag to shut his missus up during his fights, and he might pick up even more fans.
Froch would have a massive fan base if he was on ITV or BBC and I believe theyd get very good ratings with his fights as well.
He doesnt do any promotion, you never see him on chat shows or anything other than boxing programmes. Unfortunately, as much good as he has done for his career in the ring, he has done fuck all outside of it to get those extra bottoms in seats.
Proboxing is an entertainment business, its in his best interests to be more recognised and the only people he has appealed to are those that know or follow boxing already. What has he done to draw the average sport fan that doesnt watch boxing?
Horrible officiating in that fight, Reid did not get a fair shake. But, you could see he was losing it, he was off and just did not look comfortable in there or sharp at all. Wasn't his night and he's done jack shit since then.
He was one tough SOB though and I will always remember him getting dropped and just everything going wrong for him and at the very worst of it when he's knocked down for the second or third time he just calmly kneels there and winks at his corner then gets back up for more.
THAT is a fighter.
The last knockdown, he was allmost decapitated!
His corner didnt want to see him go on. That first knockdown though started it and it was a foul that should have got Lacy at worst a point and Reid time to recover or any unbiassed ref would have disqualified the cross eyed twat!
If Reid had a warm up fight before that he would have done miles better. When he fought Froch, he had fought Jesse Brinkley about a year before in the usa v uk contender show and then had a fight scheduled with a comebacking glenn cattley but cattley bottled it so Reid was again inactive before the Froch fight. Not that I think hed have won but at
least a few more rounds in him.
Lacy pre calzaghe was a fookin animal.... everyone was saying lacy is gunna take joes' head off following the reid fight!

Here he is taking syd vanderpool (who beat glenn johnson and lost on points to bhop) apart:

Calzaghe ruined him. Broke him as a man and a boxer. Calzaghe was spellbinding that night, he took an undefeated up n coming rival champions soul....totally and completely! My favourite ever single performance by any modern day fighter!
Froch fought some early fights on the BBC and fought Pascal and Taylor on ITV.
If Froch had been with FW for the majority of his career, instead of Hennessy, he'd have a shit record, although unbeaten, and hardcore fans would hate him but he'd probably be much more famous.
Go to 5.20 and watch how Lacy cheated the dirty little prick. Even the american commentators think the ref is a cunt! Keep listening for a while after they are amazed that Alonso calls it a knockdown and doesnt do anything to Lacy!

naa youre getting too deep, if the money there nowt else matters
and Froch would make more money fighting Clev than all but a handful of other fighters at the same/similar weights
Perhaps he could make more fighting Kes, or the bute fight might draw a similar amount
if martinez stepped up maybe, hopkins? Bellew?
and lets be honest, hopkins martinez is very unrealistic
so :vd::vd: back to you :)
But Calzaghe didnt fight him so i doubt he will fight clev
To be fair at least Cleverly is known on the world stage, whereas when Froch was calling Calzaghe out, Joe was one of the biggest names in World boxing and in the top ten pound for pound directly after Kessler, whereas Froch had still to fight his first former world title holder or even challenger, which was Reid;)
when froch was calling out calzaghe, calzaghe was coming to the end of his career
calzaghe had the chance of bigger money fights with big name americans, thats why they never fought
had froch been in the position to fight joe a 3 or 4 years earlier then you never know
Cleverly isn't even close to being a big money option for Froch. He's been defending his "world" title on James DeGale undercards. The Bellew fight was put in Liverpool. His headline bill in Wales was in front of a couple/few thousand.
Groves/Degale/Macklin/Bellew - those Brits would be bigger fights around that weight let alone the worldwide mob.
Realisticly only Groves is viable on that list as Cleverly has beaten Bellew and Groves has beaten De Gale. None interest me though.
Pavlik would make an entertaining fight. Even Hopkins said he could feel his power and Pavlik has a good chin.
Bellew has to hope like fuck he doesnt get caught early by Miranda or he can kiss his career goodbye.
None of them are currently realistic, just like Cleverly isn't.
Yeah Pavlik would be much bigger for Froch let alone Kessler/Bute (considering it's in Canada)/Martinez etc
that might well be the case but the point is that thats the reason the fight wouldnt happen and not coz calzaghe wouldnt fight him
i agree pavlik would be a big fight
Im willing to start a very draft top 10 money fights for froch (in no particular order)
Pavlik
Kessler
Bute
Groves
Degale
Maklin
Bellew
Clevely
Ward
Andy Lee
:)
keeping it realistic-ish
Dunno if the ward fight could draw tbh
No it wouldnt.
The only way it would fill an arena is if they held it in England after Froch beats Mack and Bute again.
Then he goes for Ward to try and avenge the loss and goes for broke from the first bell and makes it very uncomfortable for Ward.
Then win or lose go for Kessler. The reason id say go for Ward first is another Kessler fight will be a war and Kessler can fight and hit hard, whereas Ward wont hurt Froch.
I remember Ward wanted to fight Bute though and I think if Froch beats Bute again that would no doubt merit him another shot at Ward.
I know what your saying Ross, but I think he should have the war with Kessler because if he fought Ward straight after Bute again he could lose and where would that leave him?
We would all still want to see a rematch with Kessler and if Kessler has a title at that point he will want a high profile opponent he can beat. Depending on Froch might lose to Ward. Froch goes balls out and bosses the whole fight and Ward lands the ocasional right hand lead while lurching in to hold and is gifted a home town decision that we can all see is bullshit.
I dont believe Ward is that good. You dont hold on for dear life in the final 2 rou ds against Bika if you are the best in the division. Bika was beating him up in those last 2 rounds!
People have given Ward too much respect and tried boxing with him, whereas they should be tearing in to him like Bika did from the first bell.
Froch said he approached the Bute fight differently amd he needed to. He knew he was loading up on punches and that was slowing him down, he started fast and just let the shots go without loading up on them and if he repeated that against Ward he would make Ward feel very uncomfortable like he was against Bika. Now Froch knows he can start fast, he will want to give it another shot against Ward but unfortunately I think his schedule will catch up with him when and if he does finally rematch him. He will have gone through Bute who some thought was better than Ward and was undefeated and Kessler who will gibe him another war, with another Bute fight and a Mack fit to fill time. Whereas Ward will have brought the reluctant and weight drained Dawson down for a dull fight and then I bet he goes for Magee.
Good for Froch, not bad for a guy I never thought would amount to ANYTHING on the world stage. I say Mack wins 1-2 rounds maximum. No way in hell do I think Mack will do well until his chin lets him down nor do I think in a million years will he be ahead at the time of the stoppage. Mack is a decent fighter who fights with that Philadelphia style, always engaging at close range but he has absolutely zero stamina to win a world title. That's awful too because his (I think former) trainer John Tandy was a great guy and very high on him. Mack must be approaching 30 and has not improved (at least in my eyes) since he was kissed goodnight by Alejandro Berrio. It's been the same story in ever loss of his since that fight. His excuse for that fight was he was having a problem making 168 and that sapped his stamina. That was 6 years ago!! At least! His most high profile victory since then was over Chris Henry on the FNF opener years ago and even then he was on crazy legs for the last part of the bout and barely got a win out of it. Froch is a late starter and his best attribute is his ability to overwhelm and wear other boxers down. No chance for Mack imo. I think Froch starts the domination in round 2.
This is the first time I've picked Froch to win a fight since he beat that helpless Polish guy all those years ago. That might not be true, but I feel like it is. Froch is like the 2012 Oakland A's, he's very good and it doesn't have to make sense, it's just true.
