How many fights does he have left at HBO? If he moves to Showtime then probably they're looking to put him in with Floyd at some point. He skips the logjam (and a possible defeat) at 140, gets a Paulie title fight and can then handpick his opponents while running his mouth and creating enough buzz to get a fight with Floyd. Or maybe he stays at HBO, gets a Paulie title fight and then handpicks his opponents at two million a pop ( if this contract story is true.) If he wants to make serious PPV money though he needs to fight and beat Floyd before somebody else does.
Please no. It would be like Lenin being replaced by Stalin. Or Simon Cowell by Piers Morgan. There is no God.
Hopefully somebody does replace him. If Trout bursts Canelo's bubble Broner is the only potential guy on the horizon who could possibly become a major PPV draw.

Trout loses to Canelo. While being undoubtedly very talented I don't think Broner is anywhere near the level of Mayweather. He somewhat exceeds him in the being a dick outside of the ring department which is pretty astonishing, but I don't think Floyd has slipped as much as people are saying. I don't think Trout has anywhere near the amount of ring smarts needed to avoid being caught in a barrage of combinations by the cinnamon kid and so The Canelo bandwagon will march on. I like the kid he is getting better each fight but even with a weight and size advantage Floyd is way too much for Alvarez right now.

For those who hate this kid I suppose there is nothing he can do.
He's tried for Burns twice in two different weight classes.
There was hope that it could be done after Ricky split from Warren. It appears now that the split was not as clean as it seemed and that Warren may have legal standing. Burns could be in court and in limbo for the next year or more. Gamboa is on the slow boat to irrelevance.
No rule exists that he must stop at every half division along the way. If he wants to bypass 140 then so be it. He's still moving up 2 divisions to a direct title shot. Not unlike guys like Armstrong, Floyd, Manny and countless others. Yes its a trinket and I share your pain in that regard but they are all trinkets.
To bad Paulie cant crack an egg yolk because his movement and speed could possibly bring Broner out of his comfort zone.

IamInuit - That's another reason the fight is unwatchable for me, besides Pauli having no power, his fights are snoozers. Pauli vs. broner? That's a horrible matchup.
But to tell you the truth, I just can't stand looking at broner and I won't do a fight/chat thread no-matter who he's fighting. The only broner fight I ever plan on watching is a re-play of a fight when he gets his puny ass kicked.
If Broner does lose, you'll be pissed you didn't watch.
Broner is hard to take, I'll be the first to admit that, I find myself thinking bad thoughts when he pulls some of his BS, but I'm looking foreward to the next thing he does to keep things stirred up.
Is he really following Floyd to SHOWTIME or doing some hardball negotiating with HBO for three or four mil a fight? There are probably some folks at HBO who are losing sleep. I hope!

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Broner is not fighting Floyd...EVER! They are grooming him to be the next Floyd...both repped by Al Haymon...and they are even hamming up the big bro/little bro angle in public. Not to mention...why would Broner go up against the best fighter in the world when he has not even been tested this early in his career?! He would get schooled and his people don't need that for him at this stage. As for the Paulie fight...if Malignaggi had pop in his punch...this could be an interesting fight...since Broner's defense is VERY overrated. There are better fights for Broner to make at 140...oh well.

No I won't, i'll just gleefully watch the re-play. Since ya'll seem to be big fans, why don't you and Inuit get together and do Broner's fight/chat threads?
Seriously, i'd rather attempt to fuck a cactus, then watch one of boner's fights, even with the sound muted.

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
I'll tell you all something though, Broner is not Amir Khan. He's not much of a mover nor does he cut off the ring all that well. Since Paulie has no pop and he does win (I too thought Cano won) volume, movement and Jabs. I see him as a bigger Miguel Vazquez with less life in his legs who I pegged to win against Broner.
I can actually see Paulie winning this one if he does what he does well: circle and jab.

I don't think that Pauli has enough in his tank to sustain Broner and I am pretty sure that Broner's manager picked Pauli exactly for that reason; to teach Adrian how to box against a huge mover with speed.... without great risks of losing.

Thank God. That is, that he is not Amir Khan. I have to disagree on the not cutting off the ring thing. That is exactly what Broner does with his extra wide stance behind the shoulder while seeking to destroy you.

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
I'm not mad at Broner or his team for making this move. But to be a super, superstar, you have to bet the best in that division. Broner has no plans on facing Floyd. That's the first thing. Secondly, who after Paulie(should he win) will he fight to put him on the next level? Bradley or Khan? Bradley don't pull in that much money and Khan is part of GBP plan of a "not on paper 140 tourney".
Winner of Judah vs Garcia will face winner of Peterson vs Matthysee. Then that winner will face Khan. So who's left at 147? Unless he's planning on challenging Pacman and/or JMM. In which, should be challenging JMM now anyway. If he wants to be the SUPER, SUPERSTAR!!!
-
Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
I dont like this fight and Broner skipping 140.
If Broner wins he should fight someone like Soto Karass or Maidana.

Perhaps thats why he's bypassing 140. Everyone is busy. In addition most of the top 140 pounders are going to be vaulting to 147 anyway. There is no obligation morally or otherwise for him to stop and toil at 140 anymore then it was for Armstrong prior to Barney Ross.
-
Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Lucas has no plans of moving up, Khan is staying at 140, Matt/Peterson vs Garcia/Judah winner gets Khan.
Seems to me Broner is just waiting on 140 to burn out and wants no part of it.

How does he become the next Floyd if he doesn't fight the current one? Floyd only became Floyd when he beat the then top PPV fighter. Same goes for Manny. Broner has to beat an unbeaten Floyd or it's going to be a long hard road for him to do anything like Floyd has in terms of making money.

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Broner needs to beat the best at lightweight before moving up to 140lb not moving up 2 divisions to fight an B level champion. If Broner wins, will he stay at the weight in which he may be too small for? Does he go back down to the lower weights? Strange decision.

Normally I'd agree with you but Burns is going to need a warm up and Gamboa is in some kind of Arum bubble. Burns then has Warren to deal with and a court battle. Not sure why he should hang around when he cant get either other top dog in the division. In addition 140 is pretty dam busy and if you count breaks after matches then he could be toiling there waiting for someone and by the time he probably gets one they would be most likely headed to 147 anyway. Size imo wont be a factor. Broner fought as high as 140 earlier in his career and over 135 several times. He's got a huge frame and wont have any issues at 147.

It does take time to acclimatise to the bigger weight. Floyd struggled at the weight at first he has grown into the weight and is at his best.

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Its ALL about the money and making it now for Paulie and also maintaining the numbers for Broner. Very good fight for both camps!
-
Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
I'm a bit shocked that this is a real fight. It's an odd curiosity and potentially a very decent match up.
I hope Paulie can show up with a great gameplan and stick with it as you can definitely take rounds off Broner. Rees was a hobbit and he easily tagged Broner. Paulie doesn't need to hurt him, but to just keep him at bay, pop the jabs, quick one-twos, and to be gone. Vary it a little and keep vanishing. A nice big ring would be ideal. Maybe in some respects Paulie could keep him a little honest, his right does seem a little stronger these days. He can certainly slice you.
Broner comes across to me as little bit retarded too with this bizarre rapping and gurning routine. I just find it irritating and would rather have his career stopped than have to see more of it. I don't think he is even very fun to watch, he just seems to overwhelm people who have poor ring IQ. Paulie is at least a real step up.
-
Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Boner was a pretty accomplished amatuer boxer. He knows how to box on his toes and move laterially. He is working on his pro style which is getting his feet settled into the canvas to generate some power! 'It will be interesting if Paulie comes in boxing and makes Broner get up on his toes to close ground between them. Then he has to make the quick transition from boxer to puncher that most fighters like Paulie and Khan have a tuff time doing. I think Donaire does it very well but he will be challenged against Rigo to show superior abilities to act and react quicker than Rigo who is very quick on his feet and in his mind!
I believe Broner is capable of making the changes but that doesn't mean he can't struggle if Paulie comes in and makes this a boxing match. I like the match up for both guys, the interviews should be comical. ( and meaningless) The titles are meaningless for now (to many to keep track of) its all about promotion for now, We get a chance to see a talented kid grow in the sport and we'll see if he is true to the game or another BS'er! He is avoiding guys at 140...you think he is going to go up and fight the best fighter on the planet at this stage of his career?! They are trying to hype this kid up by having him fight no real threats right now. Unless this fight took place in a few years (by which time Floyd will be retired or will not risk fighting a much younger fighter)...it's not happening. And as i mentioned earlier...they are playing up the whole older brother/younger brother angle. But i agree with you that it will be tough for him to match Floyd in the money making department. Until Mayweather retires or loses...no one is matching him in the promotion/PPV business..

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Paulie is nowhere near as good as Broner. He's never won a big fight against a name opponent, and he should have retired by now before he gets hurt

He's not avoiding anyone at 140. That division is busy for at least the rest of this year. Whats he supposed to do wait until everyone is finished their business? There are no big fights he can make at that weight presently and all one has to do is look at the scheduele. Armstrong jumped straight to 147 and so did Shane.

Regardless of other fighters schedules...Broner is not stepping up to fight anyone of real threat right now. Mosley jumped up to 147 and fought Oscar (PED use aside)...hardly the same as going up to fight Paulie.

Outside the ring...Paulie's way too witty for Broner. Inside the ring will be a different story I think.

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Paulie had me cracked up ripping the shit out of Broner. He said his mum gave him a girls name because even she thinks hes a little bitch!;D
He pulled him on all the stuttering and talking gibberish. Broner sounds nervous as fuck when he talks. To me it sounds like he's forcing himself to come out with this shit.
Hs going to lose every time with a fast talker like Malignagi and he's making himself look a cunt because the crowd is laughing along with Paulie.

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Paulie is going to get his head kicked in and its as simple as that. Removed with the canvas. His wit contest will not save him. It never saved Marcus Aurelious.

I agree with you, Broner is going to win, but I hope he doesn't kick Paulie in the head. Paulie is doing an excellent job calling fights and we need some fresh faces. IMO

I dont know that its really going to be so one sided. Paulie is a very tough customer, stood in there with Cotto at 140 and took a hellacious beating but he never stopped trying. I dont think Paulie is going to win but I do think he is going to give Broner more porblems than he expects.
-
Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
The only fight Paulie is going to win is the fight of wits outside the ring. Broner wins inside the ring easy.

Is that saying less about Broner or more about Paulie? Malignaggi is certainly the best name Broners ever faced.
Broner unofficially jumped to welter in his charade match with Escobedo, hes walking around near 150 by the looks of him. He also needs to put the Floyd talk to bed..hes nothing like him and thinking that in the ring will get him in serious trouble.

Re: Broner vs Malignaggi in June for WBA title
Paulie is the seasoned welterweight so does have that advantage. It will be a close fight.

In fairness to Paulie, Cano was alot bigger in that fight with that being said, Broner is not going to be any lighter than Cano was on fight night.

Because he does not belong at 147lb, he is beating a poor champion.

Hes taking Paulie for name and trinket grabbing so we'll buy into "multi division champion super star shit don't stank next coming WHOA " tag. All hes doing by leap froggin weight classes and falling back to 135 is proving that, indeed, 17 divisions are shit and unnecessary.
