Good question and I'm glad you asked. Whenever I say I don't like Tiger Woods in a golfing conversation, people immediately assume it's because of the scandal he was involved in a couple of years ago. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In actuality, I was a fan of Tiger before the scandal and even shorty after the scandal. What turned me 180 degrees was the first Masters he came back after the scandal. First round he was there... high-fiving fans, kissing babies... the works. It looked fake, but whatever. Nothing wrong yet. Then he proceeded to play well, but got beaten by Phil Mickelson, who was going through some personal issues of his own. His wife was battling breast cancer... and the hug between Phil and his wife on the green after he won was heart-warming.
THEN came the interview with Tiger after Phil's win. Did Tiger even acknowledge the big win by Phil? Did he utter a word of congratulations to Phil? Was he satisfied with finishing 4th after such a long layoff? Was he even civil to the interviewer? No, no, no, and no. Tiger acted like an ass.... even more than usual. Sore loser... back to his arrogant ways big time.
At that moment, I went from a Tiger fan to a Tiger hater.
People have forgotten Jack Nicklaus 'cause he's old and had his time. But Tiger will never be half the all-around professional that Jack was. Not even close. If fact, what people don't realize about Nicklaus is that not only does he have the record for most major tournament wins..... he also had a humongous amount of 2nd place finishes. In that category he leaves Woods in the dust. And against tougher competition!
Anyway, glad I got THAT out of my system.
Tiger Woods is a great golfer, but a piece of shit human being.
I hope he never breaks Jack's record.
OK, I totally understand that. Yeah Tiger is a bit of a dainty little flower when he loses...always better to lose with some dignity, acknowledge you got beat by the better man and so on. Also have the grace to wish well on someone who is not playing "against you" but rather playing against the course...golf is different that way. I mean in boxing I wouldn't say that, but still, have some gentlemanly qualities...it doesn't hurt
Yeah, I mean don't get me wrong. I know there's plenty of undesirable personalities in golf, as in other sports. And Woods is far from being the only arrogant bastard in sports. But that 180-degree turnaround in the space of 4 days (the length of the tournament)... from kissing babies to acting like a sourpuss on national television.... the guy's a fucking asshole.
2013 Masters -- Tiger Woods faces possible DQ for ball drop - ESPN
I say DQ his ass.
I'm not a fan either but do want him to win - because he's the best and I think his talent deserves to take him past Nicklaus in the majors list. His shagging on the side cost him dearly in terms of tournament wins - but i bet he enjoyed himself
I'm the same with Phil Taylor at darts and O'Sullivan at snooker when I want them to win - not particularly fans of them as people but am of their talent, if that makes sense
rules are rules but seems strange there was no incident till his interview
Not a huge golf fan but why didn't an official tell him re drop zone . To my knowlegde no one had noticed till his interview ? He didn't even know he'd done anything wrong - else why admit it
Strange
I'm not that big on golf myself, but from what I understand, dropping the ball in the wrong position brought a 2 stroke penalty which he didn't acknowledge at the time. He signed and submitted his scorecard incorrectly as a result and admitted he'd dropped it a few feet further back to improve his shot.
Submitting an incorrect scorecard means automatic disqualification, unless he can't have know he's broken a rule. So what they're saying is, he didn't know he dropped it in the wrong position - which can't be true because he said as much in his interview - or that he can't have known that doing so should bring a 2 stroke penalty.
I'm not sure why nobody pointed it out or noticed at the time, I guess they won't have know he hadn't marked his card properly until afterwards. Still, for someone who's been pro as long as he has, he should know the rules.
That said I'm not too bothered about him getting a penalty rather than DQ'd. I like watching him play and he's been playing very well the last few days. I just think most other people would have been told "Sorry, you submitted a wrong score, you're out." I'd quite like him to go and win now, just to see the reaction from people who aren't happy at him just getting the penalty.
Woods should be thrown out cheating cunt, and if it affects my bets i will be fuming.
Any other player in the world apart from Tiger, would be on the plane home now ,
