Yea you've missed something. Broner brings the money. That's all that matters
"Brings the Money?" How many more defeats before he stops bringing the money? And it's not his name associated with fighting Mayweather, it's Maidana's, and that's where the REAL money is. Just to show I'm not hating on Broner , I reckon he showed a lot of heart against Maidana, but if he fights any of the top Welterweights, the same thing happens .
If he goes back to Lightweight , he rules for years. But a.) he'll never see that weight again and b.) there's no money down there. His only option is to go to Light-Welter and try to win a world title. If he stays at 147, he'll be finished inside 2 years.(unless he manages to get a fight with Khan, because he will KTFO of Khan.)

The sad fact is.... whenever someone is annointed as "The Next (fill in the blank)"..... it takes more than an embarrassing beatdown to take him off that "money-maker" perch. Such is the sport of boxing. The press becomes infatuated with the fighter.... helps build the deserved or undeserved hype (doesn't matter, really)..... and eventually takes said fighter to PPV status.
In an ideal world, it should be Maidana deciding whether or not he gives Broner a rematch. But as you've seen by the responses here, not even boxing fans agree with that.
Broner had an immediate rematch clause and executed it. Its a good sign and a good move. Its refreshing unlike my boy Bute who had one for Froch in Quebec and bailed on it. Damn man now Broner is getting shit on for doing the right thing.
Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
I think Broner is delusional by insisting on an immediate rematch and GBP/Haymon have said to themselves fuck it, he's not as good as we thought he was so let's let the fucker sink or swim.
If Broner wins a controversial decision (which is highly likely) then a trilogy is pretty much guaranteed. But Maidanan may just beat the shit out of him again and what then? Maybe Broner says it's just another blip and he continues thinking he's the next Floyd. Which would give us the intriguing possibility that the rest of his career may resemble King Arthur's confrontation with The Black Knight. :)

Yup agreed 100%. It takes real balls to get right back in there with a guy who beat your ass. Because as we've seen (Price/Thompson) it's not always the right move.
But I think it's a good move for Broner. Adrien can win this fight if he fights smart IMO. And because people hate Broner so much, no matter who he fights NOBODY will let him forget the beating Maidana gave him unless he goes back and avenges the loss.

A good, dominant win will erase that. At the end of the day, people have short memories and love to get behind winners. If he beats Maidana's ass, especially if he stops him, he can make people forget the first fight.

Nah, a nutter will jump in there and fold under heat.
Broner took the punches like a man and kept on fighting. Dude has heart.
Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
Broner did show that he has a chin and heart. He took some monster shots from Maidana, was wobbled a few times and got up from two knockdowns and went the distance. If he goes on the offensive using his speed and doesn't stand in front of Maidana I think he can pull off a win by decision.
Don't get me wrong I'm rooting for Maidana all the way, but this is an opportunity for Broner to wake the **** up and focus. Personally I strongly dislike his attitude towards the sport and other boxers, but I wouldn't count him out. Never under estimate your opponent is my motto.
Go Maidana!

Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
I'm glad it'll marinate and not be right away. I want to see how Broner comes back and even if he flattened Chino at 1 minute in we wouldn't know how he's adjusted and worked on. He needs to get that mentality he had for Demarco, acted professional, self aware and was for the most part strictly business. Start counting down the clock here though and see if his camp yells that its a duck.
Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
Remember how big Broner was before he started training for the Maidana fight.

Having the rematch as fast as possible suits Broner as it doesn't give him time to blow up like this again. Waiting a few months suits Maidana as it gives Broner the opportunity to fuck himself up again.
It rules Maidana out of a September Mayweather fight though so they're obviously not expecting that to happen.
Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
Horrible choice, but I hate him so I'm glad he made it.
Where is his team? He's already a 3 weight world champion, he can afford that loss because he's so young, and his team should be telling him that.
Maidana beat him, and it didn't seen that difficult, why risk another loss which will really drop his value in terms of being a big draw?
I'm surprised his promoters are allowing it so quick.
Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
Maidana wants to extend his 15 minutes of fame.. he is not going to be ready in april? Wtf broner is the one who received a beating , not him, yet broner is down to fight in april..
Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
Wants to be present for the birth of his daughter and spend time with his family. That's more than legitimate, Broner isn't worth it to miss that.
Re: Broner chooses immediate rematch with Maidana
I really started disliking Broner with all his sh-t talk  going into his fight with Perez he was becoming a prospect-contender I was interested in ;D I was actually excited by his pre-fight antics & tense entourage stand-offs :o but he took it way to far and just became annoying
I'm glad Broner is taking the immediate rematch ;D he proved in the first fight he can fight, take a punch and still has potential :-\
Its all about where he goes from here. A dominant win over Maidana or KO followed by a win or two over fellow contenders and the drums will start beating again :p

I remember watching him on ESPN when he was coming up too and back then his level of confidence was that, and I liked him then. When he became arrogant and disrespectful is what did it in for me. He's young and I agree does have talent, he definitely has a future in the sport. A lot is riding on this rematch, drama!

Will be fun to watch it unfold. I just hope the loss has humbled him :-X I think he makes for good against the top guys around the weight :)

He proved his defence is rubbish, he can't throw a lot of punches in a fight and he isn't a massive puncher at the weight. I think most guys on here would back Thurman and Garcia to beat him and Mayweather to clown him. He's going to be in some interesting and entertaining fights in his career but he's never even going to be the top guy in the welterweight division, never mind a top pound for pound guy.

I agree but I think he would be competitive in those bouts & it's not a forgone conclusion as to the winner :-\ It wasn't all one way traffic for Maidana :-X I think if Broner is fully committed & doesn't overlook an opponent he can be difficult for most all guys around the weight :o he definitely has to work on things but I'm interested to see how he comes back :p
