Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
He wont be with Matchroom after fighting on another promoters bill on a different TV station. That's the whole point of why they split.
Matchroom lost the purse bid. They would have expected to pull out of the fight and go a different route. That's pretty much par for the course. Old Eubank obviously said NO we want to fight Blackwell. Matchroom have an exclusive contract with SKY. Old Barry tweeted good luck not being on SKY. He was obviously fuming. Warren said old Eubank is unbearable to work with and now Matchroom have split with them after two fights. Hilarious.
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
eubank cant have signed a contract to fight for more than 2 fights with matchroom exclusively tho
if he had then he couldn't have taken the Blackwell fight unless obviously marchroom agreed with the terms of the fight
isn't that right?
so eubank must have been free to pick and choose
if after the Blackwell fight matchroom get him a fight that makes everyone lots of money im sure the fight will happen under matchrooms terms

that's how I saw it originally. But after what has been said from many sides of the fence, apparently Because Hennessy won Purse bids for the Blackwell fight, this allows Eubank to be released from his Matchroom and he has exercised that right.
What team Eubank have done is possibly sacrifice a World Title bid for a British Title fight! Matchroom had a value for the British title fight and weren't prepared to go above that. Reading between the lines , Team Eubank are probably getting a bit more from Hennessey for this fight and think they can go back and re-negotiate with Sky/Matchroom at a later date.
I don't think Matchroom feel quite the same way. They were starting to Build up the Profile on Sky and mistakenly thought all parties were in it for the long haul.
I think Eubank Sr. believes he can barter on a fight to fight basis, but he ain't Floyd yet!
he's playing a dangerous game, Warren's having none of it, Matchroom will be the same, and he's already been with and left Fat Mick before.
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
They had a three fight deal with the stipulation that basically a lost purse bid counts as a fight. Matchroom have already threatened them that any future deal won't be short term. Old Eubank demanded Blackwell-Jr be on SKY PPV :D Nutter.

thing is matchroom must have consulted eubank first before deciding not to increase the bid
hearn said he wasn't prepared to go any higher
eubank wanted the fight so that's that
isn't it?
where did your hear about the sky ppv thing?

Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Matchroom said they weren't prepared to give Blackwell more than £120,000. Apparently Jr is already on bigger than that, so the fight didn't make sense for them. They certainly wouldn't have expected to get the elbow though. Hence why old Bazza did his nut

I probably need a lesson on what purse bids are
so say eubank is on £150,000 and they wanted to give Blackwell £120,000
then you add the sanctioning fee and other bits and bats of £30,000 then matchroom decided their purse bid would be £300,000
?
or is the purse bid the £30,000?

Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
I think what Matchroom and BJS have alluded to is why does a fighter prefer to fight for a British Title on Channel 5 than a World Title on Sky?
I think Eubank Sr. is paranoid about being stitched up and goes completely the other way, making him very difficult to deal with as Frank Warren has stated. It probably went like this:
Eddie Hearn : we could get you £300k for a shot at Jacobs or £150k for a warm up prior to that.
Sr. : Yesss , but Hennessey will Give uthssss and Blackwell £120k each for a British Title fight and you will only give uthssss £100k each.
EH : English, me old son, forget about the British Title , I ain't paying Blackwell £120k, if he fights anyone bar your lad, he'll be getting £80k!! If you fight Jacobs and beat him, Jr. will be on a Million a fight!!!!!!
Sr. Yesssssss , however, Kipling once sssaid "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind"
EH : I'm sorry, English, you've lost me?
Sr. No Sir, it is YOU that have Lost ME and Chwistopher to boot! Either you pay the market value for the Blackwell contest, or we shall depart!
EH : English , you'll get MORE money for not fighting Blackwell.
Sr. Edward , in the world of Pugilism, one must accept the challenge and fight the good fight! as Kipling stated " If you don't get what you want, it's a sign either that you did not seriously want it, or that you tried to bargain over the price” and you Sir, must pay the correct price.
EH : English, why the fuck are we talking about some faaaacking cake maker?
Sr. it is with a heavy heart that I bid you good day Edward.
EH : fack off back to Channel 5 you Lunatic.
Sr. Would Matchroom be interested in Promoting my upcoming fight with Nigel Benn.
EH : English, Faaaaack off!
Sr. As Kipling once said, and I Quote "If you can keep your wits about you while all others are losing theirs, and blaming you. . . . The world will be yours and everything in it, what's more, you'll be a man, my son.”
EH: Call facking Security, I've facking 'ad it with this facking Loon!!!!!!!
;D;D;D

I've googled it
The purse bid is just the amount the fighters get

Yep. So if Matchroom wouldn't pay Blackwell more than £120k, then Eubank would have to get the same because the BBBOC have requested the fight. They couldn't give Eubank more , so team Eubank said fuck it.

I think that when a match is ordered by the governing body, because neither is Champion, yes, they both get the same. I can't see it being fair any other way.

I think Blackwell is champ
It's probly up to the winner of the purse bid tho who gets what tho I'd have thought

Well I don't know then. I would've thought if Blackwell is champ and it goes to purse bids, then he would get more.
For instance, them muppets at the IBF give an 85% - 15% split.
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Eubank probably wants to learn more and get some domestic titles along the way.junior probably feels he is not ready for world tile yet.
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Purse bids happen if the promoters can't reach a deal after a fight has been ordered - for whatever title.
The champion will be entitled to the superior cut.
So in this case (Blackwell-Jr) - Frank Warren bid £150,000, Matchroom £200,000 and Fat Mick £250,000. Therefore Mick has the rights to stage the show.
Matchroom clearly didn't want to go the Blackwell route unless they're in control, but weren't expecting the Eubanks to bin them off either. Hence the fall out. Purse bids are lost all the time by the A-side, the fights then get pulled, but these nutter Eubanks said we're doing it, taking themselves off SKY and seriously pissing off old Barry. :D

Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Well done for fucking up your sons career. He just went from fighting in front of 20,000 at the 02, with a massive SKY/Matchroom build up, to fighting at Bluewater in front of one man and a dog, with zero build up.

The audience in attendance isnt the be all end all.
If this ends up on channel 5 it could be a genius move with the exposure to the masses on a free channel. Its not like those with sky sports wont be able to or wont tune in now is it;D

Free boxing from the corporate ppv cunts at sky!
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
It will be on Channel 5. And nobody will know it's happening (apart from boxing nerds like me, that watch everything) and go completely under the radar.
You boys are delusional when it comes to the current state of boxing in this country. If you're not on SKY you're a nobody. They have the abilty to promote the living shit out of their fighters, along with Matchroom, which nobody else gets close to.
I couldn't care less what station the fights are shown on. I'll watch regardless. But Matchroom/SKY are in a different league to everyone else.

Yes, maybe there is some exposure, but where do they go from here? Being on Channel 5 with Hennessey will not be enough financial clout to progress the Eubank profile.
Apparently , Eubank Sr. Wanted Matchroom/Sky to make the Blackwell fight PPV!
Ok, Eubank beats Blackwell, then what? Hennessey/Channel 5 will not get a a World Champion , whether it's Jacobs or Golovkin over here to defend their title.
I actually like Hennessey a lot, but look at all the fighters that have been with him , he does a good job with them, but they move on to make real money. It's a sad fact of life, but there is a pecking order and it's all down to money. And Warren and Matchroom have more than Hennessey.
Fury is the exception to the rule, but he and his team are remarkably loyal and definitely not the norm. But even he had to use Matchroom and Sky's name when push came to shove.
The problem is and this gets me, Eubank Sr. And McGuigan had their financial issues when they were young fighters, Eubank was declared Bankrupt and McGuigan was fucked over by Barney Eastwood. Now they're trying to convince everyone they've learnt from this and they are "Shrewd Businessmen!" It's bollocks really.
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Why wasn't Wlad-Fury on Channel 5 if it's about viewers? Tyson would have been seen by millions but instead Team Fury/Mick jumped at the chance to have SKY PPV. Dosh. The only thing that matters in this business, regardless of who you are.

What im saying is for a decent domestic match terristrial TV is not going to hirt Eubanks career. The WBA shot will still be there.
Eubank is a free agent and is going where the best deal is. They arent stupid. Eubank is earning very good money for someone who hasnt even fought for a world title yet.

Beanz are you saying that a man who tries to get people to call himself "ENGLISH" because his son has the same name as him is stupid ?
He asked this to avoid confusion when in the same room as his son , even though the ex boxer was the one who chose his sons Christian name in the first place ?

Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
I agree that sky is the place to be
But being on channel 5 a couple of times early never HIRT furys popularity
Couple of my non boxing mates watched it when they normally wouldn't of anyway
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
It's not about Eubank's popularity. Terrestial TV may well be good for that. It's about what happens after. I have a lot of time for Hennessey and Channel 5, but facts are facts, Terrestial TV deals will not bring the big fights or Money.
Degale - Never earnt fuck all till he went to Sky/Matchroom/Al Haymon.
Froch - Hennessey did a great job getting him into the super 6 , but he had to go to Sky/Matchroom to move on.
McGuigan/Frampton - "we're delighted to be on ITV taking Boxing Forward and hope it is a long term relationship." Next Fight - SKY
Eubank Jr. - has only earnt decent money in 3 fights. Saunders - Warren/Box Nation Chudinov - Warren/Box Nation , O'Sullivan - Sky/Matchroom .
There are many others I could name.
Maybe Matchroom would take him back after the Blackwell fight, Maybe Warren would. But they will take him back on THEIR terms and it will be tied to a long term deal, or the money will be in THEIR favour. they've both been fucked about by "English" and they will make him pay in the pocket.
The Hearns and the Warrens of this World are Hard Nosed Businessmen, they do this for a living, they ain't playing games .
The McGuigans and Eubank Sr.'s of this World are Boxers who fancy themselves as Businessmen.
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
It is Eubank's career and he can go with whichever promoter he wants since he is putting himself in harms way. If the promoters do not like it, tough. The promoters should not be allowed to monopolize tv stations and force fighters to sign up to them. It should be made illegal.
-

Exactly.
How the fuck is being available to see for free for the entire TV watching nation a bad thing? Eubank os going to get a good purse from Hennesey for it, bigger than he would have got from matchroom seeing as they bid £100,000 more!
If Eubank continues to fight with Hennesey it could be the dawn of big time boxing on terrestrial TV again. Hennesey already has the highest profile fighter in Britain and Eubank is not too far behind.
If you were a terrestrial station and were thinking of shelling out for big time boxing in Britain Tyson Fury and Chris Eubank Jr would be top of your wanted list!
I dont think Channel 5 would be in the running to take on the rights for the Fury v Klitschko rematch financially but you never know! Stranger things have happened.

if hes not tho then it wont do him any harm

Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Eubank is going to be in demand. Hes exciting and has a personality that sells the fight.
As has been mentioned a few times already Matchroom Eddie and Barry are spitting feathers on twitter over it;D
The world is Eubanks oyster.

yep, there aren't many fighters around now id rather watch than eubank
I really hope he develops just a bit more one punch power
but either way - after the Blackwell fight, providing he wins of course, he will be able to pick and choose his next promoter
probably

Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
He's not getting more money, for funks sake. Do you honestly think Matchroom couldn't win a purse bid against Mick if they wanted to? They're the biggest promotional outfit in Europe.
They weren't willing to pay Eubank his fee - which is more than he's getting for this fight - plus Blackwell £120,000. All old Eubank has done is chin his son off SKY. Terrestrial TV doesn't mean shit these days. Dinosaurs.

then why take the fight? he must just want the british title
which matchroom couldn't or didn't want to deliver at that time
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Yes. I've said it several times already - Matchroom obviously wanted to go a different route. After the O2 bill the last thing they would have expected was the old man to bin them because they said the British title fight numbers don't make sense.
Blackwell as the champion is entitled to the lions share of the purse bid (I think it's around 65%).

I hear what you and Ross are saying and in an ideal World it might work like that. But it doesn't.
Just for a second , put yourself in the Promoter's shoes.
Imagine you are Warren or Hearn. you feel like Team Eubank have pissed you about. Do you do business with them in the future? Yes, but only on your terms because you're not going to let the same thing happen again.
Eubank already went from Hennessey to Warren, then Hearn, now back to Hennessey.
Hennessey - Why did he leave him? because he felt he'd progress with Warren because of the matchups he can get and the financial clout. What happens after the Blackwell fight?
Warren - He got him his first big payday and the WBC Interim belt shot. all going well........Until Warren says "it's impossible to negotiate with him." he goes to Matchroom, Why? because he felt he'd progress with Hearn because of the financial clout.
Hearn - He gets him his other decent pay day and talks big talk about "the Future." one week later, he's left. Matchroom are obviously gonna be fuming. Why has he left ? because Hennessey won a purse bid on a "step backward" fight that Matchroom didn't want him to fight. Short sighted? I think so.
So Eubank beats Blackwell, then What? he's still mandatory for Jacobs, can Hennessey deliver that?
Who is Hennessey's Golden Egg? answer Fury.
What does Fury think of the Eubanks ? Pair of Wankers! interesting.
finally , and it's not completely connected, but is it me, or has anyone else noticed that although Adam Booth is officially his trainer, they don't spend much time together, and Booth never gets interviewed about Jr.
after the Jeter fight - nowhere to be seen after the fight.
after the O'Sullivan fight - Ditto.
I reckon Adam Booth has said "look, I'll train you to fight , I'll be in your corner, but I want absolutely fuck all to do with your stupid fuckin circus!"
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
Theres quite a few recent interviews with Booth about Eubank.
-
Re: Eubank Jr was the most impressive this weekend
If the promoters do jot want to work with Eubank then they can go to high heaven. Junior can move to USA and carry on there if he needs to.
