Puts and Call options are interesting for hedging, but don't have experience of them yet
Tend to look at it from purely technical chart point of view to tell me what the market might be up to. No fundamental economic considerations, only price.
Still developments ng my style, but already know myself well enough after many wins and losses to understand risk profile and trading profile.
May dip into cryptocurrency, as even at this stage there are over 1200 to choose from. Looking at top ten as the rest seem like crowdfunding in another form.
Futures and what not look interesting
But I know not of them. I like the sandp 500 for relative safety. Emerging markets is doing well now. Bitcoin interests me as well but the analysts say it's not a good investment due to manipulation

The mainstream has been out for Bitcoin from the off. It is a challenge to government and central banks, so it's a big no, no. You shouldn't bet your house on crypto, but IMO it can be part of a balanced position.

Re: Stocks and investments
There are some good arguments there, but if you bought Bitcoin at $500 and it is now $2000 plus then it is doing better than anything else out there. If you are going to go out and put everything into it, that is nuts. But a moderate amount in crypto (several interesting ones out there) as well as hedging in other investments seems sensible to me. My thinking is always be willing to lose something. I wouldn't use Bitcoin as a pension plan and even they go bust as do most currencies. I am cynical so I expect everything to turn to poo really.
Re: Stocks and investments
Miles I hear u and I would not scoff at Bitcoin. Past results is no guarantee of future performance but Bitcoin has done incredibly well. If you have the money and could drop a grand or two in it I'd say what the hell. My secret of investing is if the money you have in keeps you up at night you are not doing it right. If you can buy, sit on it and not stress I'd say go for it. For me one issue is I know nothing about it. I can study a stock learn the P/E and everything but how can I determine the fundamentals of crypto currency? It definitely is attractive the gains have been spectacular and I know they have some atms in NYC where you can cash out Bitcoins, I think u should do it miles, plus you can buy hardcore drugs online with Bitcoin
Re: Stocks and investments
They opened the first Bitcoin ATM here recently. They are recognising it in Japan. At least for the time being I think it is fairly solid. We will see though, governments and banks surely know the threat.

Miles, I think we should do something. Figure out how to buy the Bitcoin safely and consider buying one. I'm going to start researching as I am very intrigued by the notion
Re: Stocks and investments
@walrus @Beanz I find stocks and Investments a very relevant and valid topic not boring at all not fuddy-duddy or anything like that so I don't know why beans would mention that walrus is posting boring topics. Stocks and Investments are an excellent topic as we are all thinking about our future. I find walrus to be very pragmatic and responsible and a great poster.

Yes, it is a bit scary isn't it, but some are obviously making a fortune from it. I would like to just go and buy one, but you can't exactly hold it or anything. Then you worry about losing it because of more savvy people than you. This article shows that it can be a bit of a headache, but the damn thing keeps rising.

Walrus and I have met twice in person at Joe Louis Plaza in front of Madison Square Garden right in Midtown Manhattan New York City the Big Apple the capital of the world. We have gone to a very eclectic and unique Pub for nice food and a couple of drinks two times where we shared excellent conversations which were not boring at all.

Miles I am seriously thinking about buying one once I do more study on the how's. I have some liquid cash I've been planning on doing something with. Are you serious in your consideration, just curious cause I would be much more willing if one of my best buds was taking the jump
Re: Stocks and investments
It's something I have thought about and know I missed the boat talking rather than doing at $500. Yes, I am quite serious. I have some money available and I just want to know the safest most effective way of doing it. Could be a big decade for Bitcoin. Maybe a clampdown when the authorities realise they have lost control. It will make some moves while everything else is in increments or stagnating.

I have friends that have bitcoin but I struggle to keep my head above water. I never took the safe option mate. I am not complaining, just reassuring you I don't have money to invest. If I have money it puts food in the mouth, pays a bill or gets swallowed up by being self-employed (equipment, expenses etc).
Re: Stocks and investments
That's fair enough. Bitcoin is dangerous because of the unknowns, but it is doing well.

Beanz makes His money fighting in the woods, he's a cash man like me, FFS who'd've known, he's a rough dude with a 44-3 record (30+ KO's......he won't actually tell me the number, but mid-30's for sure), I wonder who is closer/more broke me or he

Doesn't matter even for those of us with a bit of extra cash the shit can hit the fan any moment and wipe us out. Everything is just so fleeting
