Re: World Cup 2018 countdown!!!!
We are aware England should have achieved more over last twenty years. But the belief has all been used up by a bunch of multi millionaires whose effort came into question.
Ferdinand Lampard and Gerrard even said they didn't like to speak at training camps as didn't want to hear about club successes from the others. I mean give me a fucking break. But that ad probably the managers fault for not getting a team spirit.
Folding against the mighty Iceland was the biggest low. We can only get better but now many fans don't really care. And that's the saddest thing for me

Agreed but Hart has been dropped and he was at fault for Iceland and Wales goals.
Ashley Young said Southgate has got rid of the club cliques that was present 10 years ago.
Youngsters like Ali, Lingard, Sterling and Rashford supporting Kane will be exciting and we have Tunisia and Panama before Belgium so should have the group sorted by then.

Poor Joe Hart, he had a few seasons where he did alright, but he was never THE great goalkeeper.
Ashley Young...speaking of folks who shouldn't be in the England team
Kane needs support, he needs the ball fed to him and I think if you've got a spine of Alli and Dier then you're doing pretty good right there because they already play together and they play with Kane. Then you need Sterling, Lingard, and Rashford to use their speed, they lack a little bit of creative flair, but they should help Kane out. The back 4 should be in excellent shape with TAA and Walker helping bomb down the wings and who do you have at CB? Stones and Cahill? Butland and/or Pickford should be a fine #1.
Yall SHOULD win the entire group. I mean Belgium is in their Golden Era but they are still a Roberto Martinez team. You'd think with KDB, Hazard, and Lukaku as well as with the monster defense they have they'd be good but they are CONSTANT under achievers like Spain before they started winning everything.
How the shit does Radja Nainggolan get left at home? Leaving him home will cost them a bunch...need that fire in the team man and they are light in midfield.

Re: World Cup 2018 countdown!!!!
What is the group of death this go round? I think Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Uruguay is a toughy but Germany, Mexico, Sweden, South Korea should be good too. I'm interested in Poland, Senegal, Japan, and Colombia as well very well matched IMO, no weak links there.
I'm disappointed America didn't make it but I'm thinking it will really inspire these guys to improve, be a better team, and really achieve over the next few years. We're in flux going out of the Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey era and into the Pulisic, Weah, Sargent era.

Walker is playing in the back as a 3 man defence. Rose and Trippier will be wing backs, Henderson/Died holding with Ali, Sterling and Sterling supporting Kane.
Rashford to come on as super sub.

Yeah I saw Rashford's strike, hell of a shot that. Not too keen on your formation, but I suppose Southgate knows what he's doing I mean what does he have to lose really?

Yes, can not be worse than losing to Iceland.

Re: World Cup 2018 countdown!!!!
We folded against Iceland. Awful
I like the young squad but the lack of leaders on the pitch could work against us.
I think back to 96 when we had a team full of leaders - Southgate aside....:-\

I wasn't old enough to drink in 90
96 best for me - pub, in England, a great run etc...
But the upset at going out was awful - I didn't even watch the final
Still bitter now
If only Gascoigne had a bigger shoe size....

Good for them....got to fuck up the system though because this means 3 CONCACAF teams are locks for entry and advancing to the knockout stages unless rules are changed.

Mexico (15th) and USA (25th) should get in on their own merits. Canada?? (80th)............ meh.

It certainly is very low key but that is a good thing. Low expectations means we cannot be hurt and getting out of the group and winning a knock out match would be a bonus.

Maaaaaaaan you got to be in it to win it, show some pride and expectations for your boys!!!! They've got as good of a chance as anyone else does, a hell of a lot better chance than America has.
Fly the Saint George high and proud, shout from the rooftops, enjoy the time in the WC you never know what could happen.

Russia handing the smack down to Saudi Arabia.
Was just looking over the Russia roster....lots of names you'd expect: Akinfeev, Ignashevich, Kutepov, Zhirkov and then there's Mário Figueira Fernandes ...you know....the RUSSIAN football player :cwm13:

Yeah.... that one raised my eyebrow as well.
I'm on a quest to watch as many games as possible, and watched this one. What a bludgeoning Russia gave Saudi Arabia. The announcer nailed it when he said the final whistle couldn't come fast enough for the Saudis.
Did you catch Putin all smiles sitting with the FIFA president and the Saudi Crown Prince? LOL...... on that 5th goal Putin gave that "Michael Jordan shrug" as if to say..... "What can we do? They're ALL going in."

Anyone using the Fifa predictor? Proper pony it is. I had Russia 4-0, gutted when the 5th went it. I had Uruguay 1-0 as well. I think if it had stayed at 4-0 I'd have our work comp wrapped up already ;D

Re: World Cup 2018 countdown!!!!
I know the Saudis are shit but Russia do look a decent side.
Doing a hardcore beer/footy sesh tomorrow, round my mates from 10.30am (already told the women to fuck off for the day)
The plan is to watch all the games and drink as much beer as possible
Group D is the best group for me so looking forward to watching both those games and i got a feeling France will go far, young team on a 12 match winning run and with a front 3 of Dembele, Griezmann and Mbappe they probably have the best forward line of any nation.
