Perhaps, but nonetheless Margarito served the punishment given to him. He cannot be blamed for it being lighter than you think it should have been. He wants to fight and it pays the bills, he is only doing what he can with the possibilities out there for him.
And Cotto should have checked the wraps! That seems to go over heads all too easily. Even if guilty, Cotto allowed Margarito the opportunity by being careless in his preparation. That was extremely foolish too.
I don't agree with blaming the victim here.
What Margarito did was criminal and extremely rare. Cotto, nor anyone else, had any reason to expect anything like that from Margarito. I'm sure he and his team saw checking the wraps as just a formality, much like everyone else.

Panama and Resto didn't get a life sentence. I'm pretty sure they're out of jail after doing a few years.
Anyways some Floyd fan here just created some new thread saying Cotto is undefeated because he only lost to cheaters such as Margarito with loaded wraps and Pacman who was on super drugs.;D

You can blame Cotto's uncle, his former trainer. The story we have heard is Margarito didn't send anyone over to be there to check Cotto's wraps and Evangelista Cotto said fine we won't send anyone over to check Margarito's wraps.
Even if someone was there (and assuming they were loaded which I believe but could be wrong), no guarantee they catch it.
Brother Nazeem caught tito with some interesting wraps in 2001, and then Margarito in 2009. I can't think of another trainer catching anyone over that time period (that was publicized). The commission didn't catch it!!!!

The only way Margarito was going to win before the fight was stopped, was by KO, and that wasn't likely to happen. Miguel seemed to have plenty left in the tank, and Margo looked to be worn down.
It's not hard to imagine now that Margo used loaded wraps in the 1st fight, he looked like a different fighter.
BTW, that right eye looks like it got re-injured.
Yeah, the rational side of me understands that argument. I just think Cotto looked so vulnerable that Margarito - who I loathe -
deserved the chance to keep going.
The thing is, it wasn't just Margarito's eye, he didn't look to have a lot left, certainly not enough to make the fight all that competitive. It was simular in that respect to his fight with Pacquiao, which also could have been stopped, but wasn't. I wouldn't give the stoppage a second thought.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen Cotto continue beating on the cheatin' muther-fucker.

"Meaningless" maybe to graceless Margarito fans, who can't accept the fact that Miguel outboxed, outpunched, and outclassed (always) the cheating scumbag they cheer for.

God how does Bob believe some the shit he is saying.
Cotto fought like a Cuban? WTF!!
Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
The cheater is still being a dick in the post fight press conference. He said that he was going to finish Cotto. LMAO!!
Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
OMG, he keeps insisting that this fight was just like the first fight, and that he was going to finish Cotto off in the last few rounds.
Not only is he a cheater and a liar, he's delusional.
Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
I'm glad Cotto didn't make nice after the fight, like happens other times when the animosity is mostly staged for publicity. This was REAL dislike and disdain, and Cotto did the perfect thing by going over to the cheater's corner after the fight and just stare at him. No words needed be said.
Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
This is for Miles i found this post, and it explains about the gauze better than i could.
Many of you have seen Cotto/Margarito 24/7 when Cotto was trying to explain Margarito's hand wraps but somewhat failed.
Here's the deal, GAUZE is suppose to be directly on the hands before anything else. Gauze is like silk wool, so it may tear but it doesn't CHIP away like dried up paint. After the Cotto fight you can see Margarito's gauze is CHIPPED away because its plaster and not actualy gauze.
Anybody who's had a cut on their hand and Gauze was used to cover up the difference, any anybody who's had say a fractured wrist and was put in a cast. Can tell the difference between the texture of wool gauze and plaster.
Go to 1:00 of this video this is what Cotto is trying to explain.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
I have seen the 24/7's and heard what Cotto has to say. I am not saying either way if Margarito is guilty or not as I don't know for sure, but what I do know is that I believe in life after crime and I believe Margarito is a decent fighter to watch.
I also somewhat agree with Margarito, though he wasn't quite breaking Cotto down like before, he did win the last round half blind and he was the stronger man at the time of the stoppage.
Imagine what a pre-Pac Margarito would have been like. Cotto wouldn't have been able to target a damaged eye and Margarito would have been even more ferocious. It's a shame Manny got to them both first and more so that Manny was able to inflict such damage.
An undamaged Margarito against Cotto is a much better fight. You get the feeling that the eye will close no matter who Margarito fights from here on out.
Cotto boxed well though and used what he could to get what he wanted. He clinched more and took advantage of a handicap.
I don't regard Cotto as the better of the two fighters though. Over 12 Margarito still gives Cotto kittens.
