Re: some people are getting it VERY WRONG.
There is no need for a rematch between Kessler and Calzaghe IMO. Kessler put up a good fight but Calzaghe clearly won. It wasnt close enough, or controversial enough to merit a rematch.

But Lacy is right,by the 5th they were allready talking about Joe/Bhop,thats how one sided they made it sound, when in all honesty,if it was on neutral ground you could make a strong case Kessler won it.
Regardless,it was a great fight, and congrats to both fighters
Wtf?? What fuckign fight were you watching?? Strong case for kessler winning it?? I have heard it all now.

The same one Ive rewatched twice now,Kessler catches most of the shots on his arms and hands
Re: some people are getting it VERY WRONG.
I watched the fight 3 times and i'd say kessler was a cunt hair away from winning that fight. One round win by calzaghe.

I watched it 5 times now and from round 7 Calzaghe just outjabs him and frustrtes him, no way Kessler is anywhere near winning this fight.

I gave Kessler 4 rounds being quite generous to Kessler but anymore than that is pushing it i really can't work out how you can have it that close without being biased.

Yes but Calzaghe still landed over 100 more punches than Kessler and almost doubled Kessler in punches thrown Calzaghe won the fight clearly no way on this earth Kessler could of won the fight there isn't even a case for him winning if Kessler would of won that would of been one of the worst robberies i've ever seen.

Oscar did throw in volume, as much as he could really, and whilst he didn't do enough to win, you cannot truthfully claim that he was dominated.
When he was in the middle of the ring he was throwing more than Oscar... I was saying a lot of his punches were picking Oscar apart as opposed to he was throwing a lot of punches.

I too agree that it was a much closer fight than people are giving Kessler credit for... He was way more accurate, and landed the bigger punches in a lot of rounds when he only landedl ike 4 or 5 fewer punches. I truly don't believe good defense gets enough recognition in boxing.

You have to know where your fighting
Kessler HAD to be more active then he was
Maybe he can learn from it,maybe he cant, maybe he was hurt, maybe he wasnt
Allways know what ring your in

Re: some people are getting it VERY WRONG.
I gave some rounds to Kessler. I can't recall which rounds, but not enough to make it anything but a UD for Calzaghe.
The first half of the fight I was sure that Kessler had a shot at winning and then I suddenly realized that it was futile. Kessler looked... unsettled. He seemed very unsure about his attack plan. I felt like he was throwing what he thought he should throw and hoping something would stick.
Calzaghe seemed to know what he wanted to do and was doing it with ease. Yes, I was bitter, but usually I can find something to make a case for my pick to have won. This time I couldn't.
This was a fun thread. I am glad that Lionheart Lacy started it.

:coolclick: Agreed.
Honestly...I don't get people tossing up a baseless arguement. Kessler wanted a rematch because he lost everything that he worked for...but he knew Joe wasn't going to give him one to start. This was a make or break fight & Kessler did all that he could...but he couldn't break Joe.
The fight was not that close...I can't understand anyone giving Kessler more than 3-4 rounds. Some of the rounds were close...but not that close.
Personally...I was being as unbiased as possible...& I only saw Kessler taking 3 rounds. While I saw 2 even up...if I'm remembering right.

The fact is that the three professional judges scored the fight a lot more evenly over rules any opinions you or I might have, on fight night, we do not matter, the judges make the decision.
if you know abit about boxing and defense, then you'll know oscar was hardly landing anything when he threw a flurry, and was rocked by a counter right, so he became abit shy after that.
Oscars own defense was excellent that night, couple that with Floyd slow punch output and you will see that Floyd landed very little also.
but ppl like ricky hatton, seem to think that it was a close fight. IT WAS NOT. and those that say it was just dont know anything about boxing.
I personally would be of the opinion that with a record of 43-0-0 (31), Ricky Hatton knows plenty about boxing.
yes i'll agree the rounds were tense, and could of gone either way at times, but mayweathers defense was too much.
basically what i wanted to get clear was....mayweather - de la hoya fight should not have been scored closely, mayweather clearly won.
Defense is not enough.
Judges often operate of a 4-way system on which they base their analysis of the fight and subsequently their scoring.
The four sections they analyse are:
1)Clean Punching
2)Ring Generalship
3)Defence
4)Effective Aggresion.
1) The clean punching went to Floyd, as always he punched beautifully when he decided to counterattack
2) The Ring Generalship was evenly dispersed, Oscar cut off the ring well, Floyd moved well.
3) Defence was to Floyd of course altho DLH was masterful also.
4) This went to Oscar, fighting in spurts which he converted well to scoring punches.
It's not like the amateur where it's entirely punch based, in the pros a punch on the gloves may be as effective as those landed on the head, it's all debatable and as iv said no matter how we debate it, we will be ignored as on fight night only the judges opinions matter.

and on saturday i predicted calzaghe would outpoint kessler, he would out work him.
that wasnt the story for the first 7 rounds atleast. in round 4 kessler rocked calzaghe pretty bad, he looked in control. i WAS EXTREMLY SHOCKED AT HOW KESSLER COULD STAY WITH CALZAGHE PUNCH FOR PUNCH. mikkel was even beating joe to the jab many a times.
after round 7, calzaghe started using the hit and run tactics, great tactics to win a fight, especially if ur fast like calzaghe or a mayweather did against de la hoya.
kessler was getting of with wicked combos, rocked calzaghe on numerous occasions, i was also impressed with joe's chin, very strong. anyone lesser would have gone down.
after round 8, kessler seemed too tired, calzaghe basically outworked him, kessler fought in spurts, when he did, he was effective, i HAVE NEVER SEEN A FIGHTER GET OF WITH COMBOS ON JOE LIKE KESSLER, NOT EVEN EUBANK. HE WAS LANDING HIS JAB AND HIS ACCURACY WAS AWESOME.
yes he lost the fight but people are saying, he dominated, the papers said it was an easy UD. no it wasnt. and in a rematch in copehagen, kessler has a HUUUUGE chance of winning.
if anyone knows kessler then please tell him to not get worried about this loss, it was against a great fighter, and he lost in style. he is a great fighter.
basically what i wanted to get clear was....mayweather - de la hoya fight should not have been scored closely, mayweather clearly won.
and kessler put up A GREAT GREAT FIGHT against calzaghe, his hands were up and he was able to keep up with joe throuhout, he will be back and unify the division. i think joe was afraid of kesslers power. a few times he thought about theowing his slapping flurries but was always caught and rocked, so he decided to use his hit and run, an occasional flurry.
kessler is an awesome fighter.
Sorry to sound like the rest of the pack and I am not trying to pick on you but what you wrote sounds more like Blind devotion to a fighter then actual boxing knowledge :-\
It was a close fight I had Floyd ahead by 2 rds but it was in not way a one sided affair in Mayweathers favor....
I have also heard some people blame Oscar for losing in some ways rather the Floyd beating him...DLH at times became too concentrated on landing the big shot and taking Floyd out then anything....If he would have let his hands go more without worring about landing the power so much there is a very good chance the fight would have gone his way by a larger margin then Floyd won it by...
Not making excuses for Oscar by any means Floyd won fair and square but it was not by way of dominance....The way you are talking Floyd made DLH look outclassed and a fool...That was not the case in any way

I'm in that group - Oscar was winning the first half of that fight. I had Floyd winning the fight by a couple of rounds...I'd be surprised if anyone referred to a fight that close as an easy UD.
