I might say Bob Sapp. You look at him and the guy's a monster. I saw some of those K-1 bouts and apart from size he had nothing. He could lay on an opponent, sap him and tap him a couple times and win. But anyone who knew how to stay away long enough could slap him around once he got tired. I remember him screaming, "I want Tyson!" Even that faded version of Tyson would have KILLED him. Sapp was too slow to touch Mike and let's be honest, Mike fought a hundred tomato cans who looked just like him.
over here Bernard Dunne is way over hyped, beat a load of nobodys then lost to a...nobody
Andy Lee was way over hyped aswell even though I think he is quite talented
Clearly you can not deny his skills. No boubt about it.But I think you sumed it up perfectly right there.Thats my point,he was riding with skills yes...but had emmence backing/buildup...and yes Hype stemming from the gold at the Olympics.I mean, who doesn't.The networks could not get to him fast enough and he was in the limelight from dayone.Clearly he was talented but could not totally meet the level of expections that his handlers and Media set for him.He was all balls in with Tito, fought like a champion...but he was done after that.
JCC Jr. and Amir Khan currently.
To be fair.. Khan was a 17-year-old Olympic silver medalist hailing from Britain - not a place exactly overrun by worldwide boxing champions.
And he is a very talented fighter.. just has a brain malfunction when it comes to defence and unfortunately possesses one of the most fragile chins ever known to man.
you all clearly forgot Prince Nasseem Hamed
I can't think of a fighter with more undeserved hype though, the Reebok sponsorship and PPV events, surely his career thus far should not merit such things. Hatton has truely earned his PPV status through attrition, I'm not a fan, but he has fought his way to where he is. You don't see Andre Ward headlining PPV events.
Audley Harrison
Enzo Maccarinelli
I agree.. it's very annoying that Khan has NOT even proven himself to be the best lightweight in the UK.
But you have to bear in mind that Britain is tiny compared to the US.. so obviously potential world stars are far more infrequent.
If Andre Ward was British he'd be in Khan's boat.. you could bet your house on that ;)
i know everybody has their own opinion and taste about boxing and how fighters should be. I, for one, likes a good fight. back and forth action. guzman doesnt do that. when guzman fought soto there was one time that he turned his back from soto and ran. come on man, who does that? he might have been good before but that was from mediocre fighters? his last KO was 2004. he hyped himself by sending letters to pacman too.. what a tool. even his last fight with ameth diaz was crap. he is lazy in training and it shows on how he fights. he's supposed to be a slick boxer with amazing handspeed yet his punch count is low compared to what is expected of him. he had his chance with campbell yet he blew what could have been the biggest money maker of his life.i dont think floyd sr even trains him anymore. if he is not hype then i dont know what hype is..
well thats just my opinion.
