Wow, I had no idea it was even last night. Bit conflicted, I mean I feel bad for Roy in a way, but fuck me at least we won't have to hear from all the Roy fanatics about all the people he could still beat. I bet Majesty picked Green.

That was an ugly shot.Sad it takes this for some greats to "get it".Jones has been shot since Calzaghe peeled him off the bottom of his boot.
How do you know that was an even shotter version of RJJ ? i think its basically the same RJJ Joe Calzaghe fought. RJJ was just cold and Danny Green hits harder, which makes Joe Calzaghe's win over RJJ look even worse which is the point i was making, because some people were deluded enough to think that was a good win for Joe Calzaghe.
I don't think anyone really thought Roy was a good win for Joe. That was the biggest farce in boxing in years. Easiest fight to predict, EVER.
Well he was "shot" a year ago. So since then has he become unshot?
Fucks sake..
Even if it's the same version you have still fucked yourself. YOU urged the world to give Calzaghe ZERO credit for beating Roy. That means it means nothing. So how can someone else beating Jones hurt Calzaghe? That doesn't make sense.
Personally I think Green's win proves how good Sven Ottke is.
Green KO'd Roy.
Mundine beat Green.
Otkke sparked Mundine.
I think you make some interesting points Ice, but I don't think it is fair to hijack a thread talking about Green/Jones to rant about Joe Calzaghe. You could have always started another thread to do that and it would have probably sufficed. Maybe I'm just being grouchy, dunno.
It's always easy to criticize a fighter based on the future records of their opponents, but I do think it's a bit unfair. Of course, there are holes in Calzaghe's career, particularly pre-Lacy. But there are a few wins there, most notably Eubank. Calzaghe, did step it up towards the end and again I say it is all too easy to criticize with the benefit of hindsight. Kessler was the man everyone wanted him to fight and he did it. Hopkins was next and Calzaghe did it. I think fighting Jones was a waste of time and said it at the time, but Calzaghe dominated Jones in a way that no other fighter could do. Calzaghe did what he could with the fighters that were out there, he tried to make a Hopkins fight earlier and Hopkins priced himself out. Who else was there? It wasn't a rich division, just like Hopkins middleweight division wasn't teeming with class either.
Hopkins gets praised a lot for his resume these days, but come on now....Winky and Pavlik at LHW? That's just taking the mick! And most of his best wins are smaller men moving up as well. Calzaghe was a very good fighter, but I think he gets a very raw deal from you lot. No fighter has a perfect resume, but Calzaghe had the sense to get out while he could and so he gets picked apart by the sideline critics.
Sad to see Jones go out like that, although after his level of piss-taking in the Lacy fight it's hard to feel too sorry for him. Still, it's sad to see someone you admired so much as a kid being beaten by someone who's not even approaching his level. Tarver, Johnson & Calzaghe & he could walk away saying he only lost to the best once he started to lose it, but Danny Green :-X
I said after the Calzaghe fight he needed to retire. I can't believe there were people who didn't realize just how shot he was, saying he'd beat Hopkins.
Please retire Roy, you're a legend, don't destroy your legacy further.
* How the fuck did this become another Calzaghe bashing thread
Yes, Calzaghe beat a shot Jones, doesn't mean he was a shit fighter. He's not as great as some try & claim him to be, but he's nowhere near as bad as others try & act like he is just because guys he fought get beat.
Ice Cold Boxing... I don't disagree with anything in your rant bar the word farce.
Yes Calzaghe has beaten a lot of overrated and underwhelming fighters. But he was the man at 168 for a decade and then BEAT Bernard Hopkins on top of that.
I just fail to see what is farcical about that? Who are you gonna tell me has been a more accomplished, more talented fighter at 168?
But don't get me wrong, i feel like the super-middle weight division has entered a new era, post Calzaghe, were a couple of brilliant fighters have arrived. So we'll see.
Give Green his due. Roy is 6 years out of his prime, but even stopping a 40 year old Jones in the 1st round is impressive IMO.
Its sad to see how Jones' career ended up.
Fenster what are you talking about ? where did i say unshot ? i said its the same RJJ that lost to Joe Calzaghe, and that it makes Joe Calzaghe's win over RJJ, look even worse because of the way Danny Green defeated RJJ, because Danny Green isn't a world class fighter IMO.
What im saying is that the win looks even more insignificant, than it did before. Because i had seen some people on the site, and people on other sites. Trying to convince people that it was a good win, because RJJ looked good against Felix Trinidad which is a joke IMO.
not surprising, it was just yesterday glen johnson was bouncing his head of the turf. What is shocking is that people even cared about this fight or one with him and hopkins. Why cause he beat omar shieka and jeff lacy ?!!! Those guys both need to quit as well. Jones is still one of the greatest. Sucks our last memories are always fights like this. Makes calzaghe and lennox look even smarter.
The reason Joe Calzaghe is the best Super Middleweight, is because most of the top American fighters used the division. As a stepping stone like RJJ, James Toney. And also because the best of our British fighters had retired, which isn't Joe Calzaghe's fault. But as i said he could of moved up, considering he always said he found it hard to make 168.
And also because the Super Middleweight division, is a pretty new division isn't it ? didn't it only become a serious division in the late 1980s ? i know the division was made in the 1960s or something, but i thought it only become a serious division in the late 1980s.
Either way my point still stands, and as for fighters that were more talented than Joe Calzaghe at 168.
Roy Jones Jr
James Toney
Michael Nunn
Michael Watson = Debatable
I know you didn't say he was unshot. You can't become unshot. If your are shot you will remain shot or get even shotter.
Green's win only makes Calzaghe look worse to ignorant haters or people that thought Calzaghe had a great win over a great version of Jones.
MOST people recognise Roy was way past his best when he fought Calzaghe. Therefore Green beating Jones has no bearing on Calzaghe whatsoever.
Had Roy won would you have started a thread about how much it enhances Calzaghe's career? Come on now...;)
Main point is about Calzaghe is Lacy just wasn't any good Hopkins beat him in many peoples opinion and then Kessler got battered the other week by Andre Ward and Roy just got knocked out in 1 round by Danny Green. And these are the best fights and names Calzaghe had in many people opinions and in my opinion they don't look so good now.
