Naz wasn't slick. he had a terrible defense.

I wouldn't call Hopkins slick....maybe out of the group you gave us but I'd describe him more as "cagey". His defense isn't GREAT and neither is his offense but he knows what he is doing and can set traps and make another fighter have trouble on offense and defense.
No, not the exact meaning, I knew full well people would have different definitions of slick.
Hopkins said something after the Pavlik fight about "black slick fighters" (he might have been misquoted, I can't find the exact quote). Yet as this thread shows some people wouldn't even class Hopkins himself as slick. And of course non-black fighters have been mentioned.
I'm certain the more obvious ones have been mentioned but here's mine...
Slick for me:
Benitez
Loi
Canto
Roman
Pernell
LaBarba
Locche
Lopez
Too Sharp
Napoles
James
Byrd
Pep
To me slick fighters are the ones who make you miss by an inch with complete ease. No matter how much effort you put into beating them up there always there, then not. Toney, Whittaker. Others like Ali, Mayweather and Hopkins can do this but they also rely on frustating you with distance.
Going back a bit in time, but here are a few more that I believe were slick...
1) Willie Pastrano
2) Joey Giambra
3) Kenny Lane
4) Ralph Dupas
5) Joey Giardello
6) Jeff Chandler
All but Chandler were white- Dupas I think was mixed.
The problem with slick fighters is that as they age they lose a lot of their skills that made them slick and they need to adjust. Most are not power punchers either. Floyd has adjusted well, and so did Giardello who put on a masterful exhibition of that term in 1963 when he beat Dick Tiger, at the age of 33, for the middleweight championship.
