Feom the above article, There is something I don't quite understand or maybe reading it wrong. To me it seems that Funeka has to weigh in 145 or below and Guzman has to weight 150 or below. I'm confused as something about that doesn't seem to add up. Why should there be a weight restriction like that on Funeka??

Right, that just sounds weird. What is the reasoning behind that? Funeka made the weight, so now he should be able to rehydrate to whatever weight he wants. I so hope Funeka is able to do a number on this cheating little bugger.

I know, I just don't understand how that weight rule can be implemented. Somethin ain't right about that for sure. Maybe it's written wrong.

Why should there be a weight restriction like that on Funeka??
I can only assume it was something they negotiated yesterday. Why Funeka would agre to that when he clearly had the upper hand in discussions is beyond me.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
That's embarrassing. I was a fan, and even was willing to give him a pass for the Nate thing but this is just absurd, go Funeka. Guzman makes Jones Toney look like an overachiever.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
Makin weight is like honorin the sport.
Complete disgrace!
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
So much for Lee Beard being a hot new trainer :beat:
Fucks sake...
If I wasn't a Guz hugger i'd want Funeka to spark him.

Clearly Funeka needs to weigh under 145 to fight for the IBF belt, they are allowing Guzman to go over because he can no longer fight for it.
If Funeka weighed over 145 the fight could still happen (I guess) but Funeka would forfeit the right to fight for a world title as well.
It's not that unfair to Funeka, it's just he's obviously still trying to fight in accordance with the rules for the right to win the belt, whereas Guzman obviously doesn't give a fuck.
It will be interesting to see if Funeka does weigh under the limit or if he comes in heavy and gives up the title opportunity to enhance his winning chances against a much heavier and cheating opponent.

What are you talking about? Funeka made weight at 135 yesterday.

That's what I would figure. I've never heard of a sanctioning body having a restriction on what a fighter can rehydrate to for the unofficial weight in order to still fight for the belt..

Especially if they weren't checking weight before the fight at 7 and 30 days.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
I am a fan of Joan Guzman but it is really hard too root for him, when crap like this keeps happening. I am still rooting for him though like Fenster will be.

I've never heard of that either, but they must have something in place, as Bilbo says, to say that you can't rehydrate past 145 for the 135 IBF title. Who knows. Its absolutely not beyond the realms of possibility that the IBF started makin their own rules. Hell, we'll probably have different types of Boxing in another 20 years time evolved from different boxing organisations.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
I stand corrected Bilbo was absolutely right. According to the IBF contest rules.

Now I got egg on my face, I fully admit I was wrong. This isn't a bad rule by any means as it kinda helps prevent use of diuretics. How the hell this didn't affect Josh Clottey in his IBF bid against Judah I'll never know.
Re: Guzman seriously overweight for Funeka bout.
This is just ridiculous & unprofessional by Guzman, up until about the Soto fight he was 1 of my favourite fighters but he has pretty much been a let down ever since that win... I hope Funeka smashes him!!!
