Re: 25 years on and still the greatest fight ever IMO.
I know we have all seen it a million times...but for me...the greatest fight (AND trilogy) was Barrera vs. Morales 1. The best combination of skill, true hatred, war, and heart i have seen in a fight.
Re: 25 years on and still the greatest fight ever IMO.
Super classic, these guys were aggressive, they didnt care about nothing but finishing it

With all the hype behinds the names, the fact that hearns was fighting for the the first time at 160 is over looked...He also looks more tired than hurt in that fight..

I watch that round every few months or so on youtube when bored - quality.
My only regret is that I never saw this live on tv - bit young and didnt appreciate boxing then (not sure if it was live in UK anyway back then ??)
Anyway I can only imagine what it would have been like watching that fight live on tv with a few mates round as I often do now.
Either stunned silence or shouts of "wtf ?!?" "Jesus" "Fuck me" "OMG" etc....
God knows what it must have been like to actually have been there.
Will never be ousted from top 3 fights of all time I reckon ;)
Still think the greatest round of all time was Chico - Castillo round 10.

Maybe if I was 20 years older and watched it live it would be at the top of the tree for me too.
I never saw until I was actually 12 years old. I was waiting up for the Tyson-Holyfield match and my dad got out his old video collection and showed me this brawl between 2 ATG's. I was already pumped that night as there had been some great boxing on live and the climax (Tyson - Evander) was still to come. This just left me in awe though and since that day I have been waiting to see something more entertaining (in my eyes) not only in boxing but in any other thing in life. It was a great night for me, Evander was the icing on the cake.
It would take something involving Angelina Jolie and my bedroom to better it I think and I could have that fight on in the background and then when I had finished I'd be able to watch the final 7 mins of the fight. :)

I've never seen anything like it - Gatti fights et al. Guess the fact that it was two boxing superstars at their peak adds a lot of clout - but then again thats what made it all the more enthralling (good word that).
As Larry Merchant said of the fight , and still does now, 'Nobody breathed for eight minutes'. Am not Larry's biggest fan but I can certainly understand that
Well it is overrated due to the fact, people call it the greatest action fight of all time when that clearly isn't true. Yes it had one great round, but the others Marvin Hagler was in control of despite the cut.
Mark i could give you 10 fights right now, that are better fights. And if you watched them over a course of a week, i guarantee you would enjoy them more. Because i don't think you've seen them so it would be like watching it live.
Kevin Kelley vs Troy Dorsey
Kevin Kelley vs Derrick Gainer 1
Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson 1
Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Yaqui Lopez 2
Bobby Chacon vs Rafael Limon 4
Bobby Chacon vs Cornelius Boza Edwards 2
Michael Moorer vs Bert Cooper
Charles Williams vs Merqui Sosa 1 or 2
Wilfredo Gomez vs Lupe Pintor
Kelvin Seabrooks vs Thierry Jacob
And i didn't even have to really think about that list either, there's plenty of better fights treat yourself to these classics.
One of the reasons people think its better than any of those fights , is the magnitude of both participants , not many people out of boxing would know many off your list.
But as ever its a matter of opinion.
I tend to agree. Hell, I don't know a bunch on there. I probably should look them up, though. So thanks. But yeah, you're looking at two guys at the height of their careers in a good era for boxing who generally disliked eachother with a combined record of (at the time) 101-3.
That's pretty awesome. I wouldn't call it my favorite fight of all time but WOW was it entertaining.

I never saw it in full till a couple of years later.
have seen some of fights you list ICB, and appreciate where you coming from but Hagler Hearns had it all and will still be talked about 50 years from now whereas your list of fights will be forgotten.
and you should have put Carl Thompson v Ezra Sellars on there ;)
Carl Thompson has been in too many mate, Chris Eubank 1, Sebastian Rothman, David Haye, ETC. He's always in a FOTY candidate, simply couldn't list him because there's too many of his fights to choose from.

It totally ruined the fight for me. I can't watch that fight now. Corrales should have been disqualified.

Yeah that aside, it was still remarkable.
Re: 25 years on and still the greatest fight ever IMO.
For hagler hearns you have to take into acct that they were both greats.....otherwise it would just be a good fight.
I dont care if Castillo Corrales was fought by two nobodies on the untelevised part of friday night fights, that was tops for me.....Greatest fight I have ever seen.....After this fight I made a few people that werent even boxing fans watch it and they said...Dam, that was something......
