Major bookies don't even price up minor events let alone take huge liability bets on them. The Burnett-Maguire match was live on the BBC at the UK championships.
Millions of fans are not bothered by corruption in sport ;D
As said fenst i totally agree punish the hell out of actual match fixers at major tournaments as it completely ruins the concept of a fair game
But 1 frame in a tournament nobodys even gonna know is on let alone put money on, the only losers i see coming out of this is the cash happy bookies

Mate if you think it only happens at the small non televised events, it is not the case the Burnett Maguire match was at The UK Champs the second biggest event on the snooker calander.
Re: Snooker hits a new low..
How are the bookies gonna take any money on it if no one knows it's on? What about the exchange players? For conmen to pay hundreds of thousands you are talking about serious amounts of money wagered.
You can't just place any bet you like in a bookies. Large sums on small betting events are instantly detectable. Last year betting was suspened in a match between Ebdon and Wenbo because a few grand had been placed in seperate £100 and £200 bets on a 5-0 scoreline. Just a few grand.
At the end of the day - it doesn't matter what level you're at, any professional sportsman that throws a game/match should be banned.

I like John Higgins though, seems a nice chap and for that reason I hope he gets away scott free.
His manager looks a bit smarmy though, bring the book down on him.

Re: Snooker hits a new low..
yep - he's screwed and it should be career over. I reckon it will be too
As said theres two questions he can't answer - i) why he was there and ii) why he didn't report it
so game over
Still think the tabloids get away with murder by setting individuals up - who they going to target next month ?
If there's some financially desperate sports star out there (and who's saying higgins wasn't) with gambling debts, drug debts etc... and the carrot gets dangled then to me the journalists are as much to blame.
fuckers

Yeah I agree 100%. I mean if it's a crime to accept bribes, then surely it's a crime to offer them?
It's like setting up a child porn website in order to lure people into giving their credit card details.
I must admit I think the newspapers are the scum of the earth, and journalists are bottom feeders along with ped's, drug pushers and job dodgers like myself

Annoys the hell out of me how the enticers get away with the stuff they do (which is clearly illegal) by using the argument that the person theyve set up has clearly done something which is worse.
Pretending to be someone in the hopes of a stitch up has gotta be borderline rapist material!!

I wish someone could set them up.
How great would it be if they offered some celebrity hundreds of thousands of pounds in bribes, and the celeb was secretly filming then, turned down all their demands and then went to the police and alleged that this reporter was committing fraud.
That's what SHOULD happen.
That's why I always want them to get off completely free. Entrapments by the newspapers (who are just civilians) shouldn't count in court or be legally admissable. In fact it should be a criminal offence to impersonate anyone else for the purpose of deceiving and manipulating other individuals unwittingly.
I think all newspapers should be outlawed and criminilised in all honesty. I fucking hate them with a passion.

Do you ever see the show dateline NBC
Im soo glad these people do what they do and potential offenders who repeatedly enter these chatrooms in the hope of chatting up a minor (not the arthur scargill type, more the frankie muniz from malcolm in the middle type minor) are put away so they cannot harm innocent kiddys.
But is it absoloutely neccessary to rig a house out with cameras and publically humiliate a guy in his early 20s looking to meet a girl who`s 14/15years old for sexual encounters. Yes its an offence to do that and unlike BIG H(paedo) i wouldnt take the risk. But these people just like you and i and no doubt the production staff and the entire team that work on that get lonely every so often and when something even borderline illegal is offered on a plate they take the risk in the hope of finding a companion.
Public humilation is not what i consider entertainment and the people that do these things really need to ask themselves where the hell is the line and have they crossed it
Re: Snooker hits a new low..
Very disappointing from John Higgins, ive' always liked him. I thought he could of been the new Stephen Hendry. Because he seems to be so much like him, i think he would of won atleast 5 world title's before he retired.
What a shame i mean learning that the jumped up, rapist stupid little prick Quinten Hann cheating in snooker no one care's about. Because he was crap anyway and he was scumbag.
But learning that one of the finest Snooker player's of all time, who's also very likable. Is a major blow to snooker IMO, i mean who have we got now ?
I think the Snooker tournament's are wide open now, with Ronnie O'Sullivan all over the place, Stephen Hendry being too old. And John Higgins career looking to bleak to say the least, you could never predict a winner now in any tournament.
Re: Snooker hits a new low..
Stephen Magure is almost certainly crooked and now Higgins! 2 of the top 4 in the world are fixing games - what a nightmare for the sport
