if the blueprint is "wait for Williams to leave himself open and throw a one punch KO" that's not a very good one.
That's like saying the blueprints out on how to beat Duran because of what Hearns did, or how to beat Khan because Prescott did it.
And one shot one punch KO doesn't mean the blueprint on how to beat Williams is there. It was a perfectly timed great shot from a great fighter. The blueprint on how to beat Williams really won't be there until he consistently loses against it.
The blueprint is that Williams has nil for defense as he was caught with 4 flush fight enders prior to bomb. He counts on volume and pressure as total package & when your face starts running into frequent fists you encounter problems. Being timed and countered with left hooks resulting in nose dives to the canvas as an example.
Duran who had gone prior 15 with Hagler will never be confused with Williams. And he had more to fall back on as far as skill. Khan...um ok :-X
Yes but you'd have to be expecting him to leave himself as badly wide open as that.
If the blueprint is just waiting on that shot to come a lot of people are going to be unsuccessful with that. If you want a fight for a blueprint look at the first Quintana fight.
But it's not like it really worked the second time around.
There is no real "formula" for beating Williams, it's all about taking what he gives you. And what he gave Martinez was all Martinez needed to knock him out. But it was far from the blueprint to beating Williams.
For fans sake I hope he can keep swinging....but he tried to Quintana Martinez in the first round Sat and a bigger, sharper, calmer boxer exploited his gaps badly. It was not a fluke shot but more so culmination against top tier.
Re: Williams is still world class.
While i think Williams can still be a force...it will be interesting to see how he comes back from such a brutal knockout. When you get KOed like that, it can leave lingering effects not only physically but also mentally. He has the physical tools to be a much more effective boxer. He doesn't need to rely on high work rate. If he can utilize his length and jab better...he actually will be a more daunting fighter.

I hope he bounces back with a couple of easy wins, maybe the first win could be against Max Kellerman.
Anyone would be cagey in a comeback after a knockout like that.
It was a big knockout, but Williams has more in him.
Re: Williams is still world class.
There is no question that he is not world class.
He got caught by a bomb, it happens ...... he went out of there like a real fighter.
At least he landed more than one punch in the whole fight, and came to win.
Re: Williams is still world class.
did you guys seem him after the fight? he was like it happens in box pretty level headed, not sure how tore up he was in reality.

Pretty much what he does when he loses, he learns his mistake, and then doesn't make it in the rematch.
beating Paul Williams could be the worst thing for his opponent to do if there is a rematch.
But I'm sure Martinez is smart enough to know that Williams isn't going to leave himself that open again. So he won't be searching for a knockout in that match.
That was the rematch
Also I don't get this Williams is some beast in rematches, come on we need more proof than one rematch in his whole career prior to saturday.
Re: Williams is still world class.
I dunno but he tasted that brutal ko hit like in chin/ jaw area few fighters able to bounce back ounce they had, well we will see.
