now tell me, explain to me if pacquiao is not cherry picking his opponents, why wasn't berto nor bradley or anybody as fast as pacquiao, chosen as his opponent? and please don't tell me that bullshit that they wouldn't sell enough ppv's! do you actually think the knowledgeable boxing public is going to shell out $54.95 to see a one sided beat down? pacquiao is a multi-millionaire many times over, surely he can go after a top fighter so that he can shut up his most ardent critics.
and another thing, sergio martinez already said he would come down to 154 to challenge pacquiao for his jr. middleweight title but bob arum balked as usual. why? and please don't tell me pacquiao is too small for martinez. pacquiao was willing to beat up a slow, margarito for the jr. middleweight title at a catchweight so why can't he defend it with martinez as his opponent? i'll tell you why, it's because martinez would kill pacquiao and pacman knows it. he only wants fights where he has a big speed advantage. forget about the height and weight, speed kills and if your opponent happens to fight you at a catchweight and he's slow and past his prime, what a better opponent for pacquiao!!!
You are turning this into a Pacquiao thread! I wanted to talk Marquez.
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
because everything coming out of the pactardos mouths is pacquiao.
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
What do you think is the biggest money fight for Marquez outside of Pacquiao?
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
damn, that's a great question. there really aren't very many marketable fighters who would give marquez a really big payday. the closest opponent i would say is amir khan but it would never happen cause of the golden boy promotions/top rank dispute.
i really can't name a big money fight for him right now!
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
Why don't we simply just respond to the original premise and respect the value of this topic and the responses it has so far generated instead of derailing it by causing sub topics of indirect relevance or worst, to sometimes even camouflaged responses but in actuality an individual's rant against a disfavored boxer?
If this thread is found unsuitable to a particular train of thought, then start a thread on a topic to your own liking and host the exchange of ideas if you will, but please let's respect the interest of others to this particular topic, to further this and see its end should be of interest to all of us.

Marquez should start campaigning in the 140+ lbs! Strive for legitimacy! Not to do so puts a dark cloud on his "true" aspirations.
It would be agreeable that if JMM goes and fight Soto or anyone back at 135 lbs after a breakdown in the "lottery" contest, will mean that his goal of getting it on a third time with Pacquiao is more financial in flavor than of a recognition type of an endeavor. It will make JMM's and indirectly GBP's quest as having less to do with aspirations for a 4th weight category title belt for JMM, but a mere "financial" in its urgency.
In Juan Ma's case, a padding of his retirement cache is not a stretch of imagination as far as his real main goal is concerned. For as battle scarred as he is and as weakly as he has had performed in the past fighting in the division above the 135 lbs class, it is a strong possibility, that he may very well end up retired if things go south after a bout with Pac at 140+ lbs. (Pacquiao has been known to have obliged and retired a few in the past).
To validate his case then, he should face the upstarts angling for a ring date with Pacquiao, who knows... this may very well ensure a third!

both Marquez and Khan are GBP fighters so nothing to do with top rank
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
That's why JMM-Khan will more likely to happen than Pac-JMM.

I agree Kanan. Its not to say that Marquez needs any more validating fights, he's already a certain HOF. But, I see Marquez beating Soto and Rios. He'd have his work cut out for him with Bradley. If he won though, I'd give him a ton of credit.
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
I'd like to see him in with Khan or Bradley if he wants to move up. I'd give him a ton of credit for fighting/beating either of them. If he wants a fight with Pacquiao in the not to distant future then he has to move up to try and force the issue. If he proves a legitimate threat at a higher weight by beating one of these 2 - or Maidana or Alexander should they win - then there'll be more pressure for JMM-Pac III. If his next fight is at 135 though that pretty much ends any hopes he has of a 3rd Pac fight
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
I'd like to see him fight Chris John in America.
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
One thing is for sure Marquez can't win a bid to fight Pacquiao because he wants a 50/50 split. Even after a dismal showing he doesn't have enough sense to drop his price. There isn't anyone else he can generate a guaranteed purse of $2 Million.

I think he meant revenue rather than performance.
JMM - Katsidis - Boxing - Yahoo! Sports
Re: Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstak
I'd still favour Marquez to beat anyone at 140. Maybe Bradley pushes him close, but i'd be very suprirsed if Khan or Alexander beat him.
