1. Cotto wilts under pressure in the later rounds.
Well... I guess that one was put to bed last night. A TKO win in the 12th round is definitely not the mark of someone who wilts in the later rounds.
2. His heart isn't in it. He's only in it for the money.
An ignorant statement, actually. Cotto already has more money than he knows what to do with. He's still fighting for the only reason why most great fighters continue to fight.... 'cause it's in his blood and 'cause he wants to.
3. He couldn't avoid Margacheato's punches, so he'll be a sitting duck for Mayorga's flurries.
Well... I guess that one got put to bed also. He showed movement, avoided some of Mayorga's wild shots, and basically showed some pretty good defense.
4. He's a quitter.
Ironic, isn't it? It was actually Mayorga who said "No mas", for whatever reason it was. Even more ironic. Haters had Mayorga sending Cotto into retirement, and it seems it may be the other way around. Karma is a bitch, isn't it?
I love this forum, but I wish people who talk the most shit would show up after their predictions blow up in their faces and say...... "You know... I was wrong about so-and-so". He's actually better than I thought.
Yeah, right.
Tito - that underlined portion of your post is the only gripe I have with your statement.
In a sense, I give him a pass on his last two fights. He needed to test the waters at 154 with Foreman before going in deeper, fair enough, and Mayorga is a true junior middleweight who brought a big pay day. Fair play there too. So, let's see where he goes next. I'd prefer to see Cotto in with Berto at 154 than Margarito. I'd also prefer Cotto face Kirkland/Angulo/Dzinziruk/Williams etc before Margarito. Any fight now with Cotto is a PPV, so, it's not like he isn't getting paid anyway.
Great fighters challenge themselves consistently. Mayorga and Foreman aren't challenging for someone of Cotto's caliber. Again, I understand the logic of why he took them, and let's see his next fight. However, Kirkland, Angulo, Dzinziruk, Williams etc. those are real challenges for great fighters.
At the end of the day, Cotto looked good last night. Damn straight. It was against an old Mayorga, who wasn't ranked in the top ten of the division at the time of the fight, but Cotto still looked good.

Is that the WBO ranking? We all know sanctioning body's rankings aren't accurate and don't matter. Chavez Jr. is ranked #2 ffs. He was there because Don King got him there.
The Ring Magazine and Espn didn't have Mayorga ranked in their top ten. And the IBO, which has a odd way of ranking (computerized maybe?), doesn't have Mayorga ranked in the top ten. I don't think anyone else had him ranked in their top ten at 154.
WBA ranking bro.

Ross can have his objections, fair enough. But to say Cotto is ugly is just ridiculous. Along with Sergio Martinez he's one of the most handsome men in the sport.

Martinez is quite a handsome one isn't he..
Sergio Pretty Boy Martinez.... he's not gay enough to name himself that though..
Re: Cotto questions: ANSWERED
Ross got hyped for a fight and got his pick wrong. Big deal. It's petty to make such a big deal out of it though. He's admitted he got it wrong and yet we have threads from people who have taken the statements so seriously as to mentally note down each and every argument made over previous weeks. The pick was wrong, the 10-1 favourite won and life goes on.
I agree with the statements about Martinez, he is undoubtedly a fine looking figure of a man. Cotto is more an aquired taste, but I can see why some might go for him. Is that gay enough?

That's how I feel too, I want REVENGE but I don't want Cheato to use Cotto's name to make money and it's still a dangerous fight honestly.
Cheato is a full blown Junior Middle compared to a stocky welter in Cotto.
That's one of my worries, also.
I remember somebody saying before Miguel is a "Tweener" a big junior welter but outsized by welters like Tony, Kermit and Paul Williams. Junior middleweight his body looks perfect but being 5'7 he won't have the leverage in his punches there. I love the guy(not in a gay way) but we must be realistic here;)
The reason he moved up in weight to 154 is because he was having trouble making 147. If he's going to be a junior middleweight, be a junior middleweight.
I did not know that, maybe he is a lil endomorphic (carries more bodyfat) but he does not look like it. I got your point I'm just protecting one of my favorite fighters:)
he has said before he was a fat kid before he took up boxing
however i wonder how much of his training actually goes into losing any excess fat he may be carrying because of all the training videos and clips iv seen it never looks very intense
that may be put on for the cameras but is just a thought

looks like he does have a very laidback approach to training nothing flashy, he does not throw his best shots whether it' the heavy bag or pads.

Instead of "people", why didn't you just say "TitoFan"? Listen, I got no beef with you. A handful of saddo'ers were picking and hoping Mayorga would win. Have I done the same to them? No, right? Ross is a hater, starting with hoping for Cotto's surgically-repaired shoulder to hamper him during the fight... and continuing his song-and-dance about Cotto being a quitter and being a shitty fighter. I don't know whether to call it hate, or ignorance. Either way, I did what I did for a reason.
Now sit there and tell me that had Mayorga KO'ed Cotto, Ross wouldn't be calling us out and spewing his Cotto-hate all over the forum, probably for a whole month. So spare me your "leave the poor dude alone" spiel. Besides... I'm winding down.
;D ;)

don't know what he's going on about after the Khan/Barrera massacre that's all he'd talk about

Both you and ElTerribleMorales have been on the same battleground for a while now, so that's why I used a plural term. I just don't know why people got so antagonised and wound up by this fight. Maybe calling people out is par for the course on boxing sites, but I think it's kind of silly to take it so seriously. It's just a boxing contest and the heavy favourite got his win. He was made to work hard at times, but Mayorga did alright for an old guy who couldn't fight more than in spurts. He certainly didn't get blown away like many were predicting. And having said that, Cotto did alright too. He boxed cautiously and fought within himself. It was a more measured performance from him too.
I don't know what ElTerrible is on about in the previous post. Khan/Barrera was criminal, there was no controvery about this fight. Certainly no reason for anyone to be harping on about anything untoward. Totally different circumstances.
Re: Cotto questions: ANSWERED
Miles just count your lucky stars Danny G isnt here, we would have to watch a million photoshopped videos of Mayorga getting knocked down in slow motion, and missing flailing combos. Titofan would have to quote a hell of alot more than that to even come close. Danny G would probably put a montage of all Mayorga losses together with every punch he took, and every knockdown, with subtitles.

Haha, true! ;D
I just think that when someone gets hyped for a fight that after they get it wrong they should be able to come along and say "Oops, I got it wrong" and that's the end of it. To make it any more of it than that is just a bit much.....unless there is a serious issue. Actually, I've no issues with Titofan at all, and on the whole really like what he posts. But as someone sat watching the whole Ross tug of war, I just think it is has just been a bit silly. Ross dug himself a bit of a hole too though. I've been here too long, I just can't get upset by people picking a fighter in a challenging way and have people get upset by it. It reeks of fanboyism on both sides.

LMFAO at the Danny G reference!! Where the hell did Danny go, anyway? I don't keep up with that sort of thing. Did he get banned or something? But yeah... it would've been hard for me to top Danny G, that's for sure.
And yeah, Miles... I get your point. Sometimes I do tend to get on a soapbox and beat something to death... LOL... but what the hell. It's all in fun and anyway it's the occasional scrap that gives this place its charm, don't you think? In a strange way, every now and then I welcome a good "tug-of-war" with a fellow saddo'er. In the end we all make up and become a big happy family again.
And hey... I never claimed I was above being guilty of "fanboyism" once in a blue moon.
;D

Thank you. And yes I saw Mayorga hurt Cotto several times, and he was never hurt himself until the final round, when rather than survive, he went in for the KO and got caught with a great flush counter rising up with his chin in the air after his own combo.
I truely wish Mayorga would have stuck it out and finished the round, because all the heroics, antics, hard body and head shots he landed, they will all be forgotten and all that will be remembered is Cotto TKO 12.
Mayorga really put up one HELL of a fight for a 37 year old crazy man who had fought ONCE in the last TWO YEARS.
Fuck condescending posters on here who want to knock me for picking my favorite fighter in the last significant fight of his career. It really takes a lot of balls to go with the near 10 to 1 favorite doesn't it ?
Fuck off.
