Yes, Margarito was coming on strong late. The 8th and 9th were two of his best rounds; after all,
one of the judges gave him
one of those rounds.
don't see how he was coming strong when his punches weren't having any effect, he was throwing more but he wasn't landing anything solid or effective, and he did so in spurts, the harder cleaner punches were still landed by Cotto, Miguel was in NO DANGER

Sorry; I guess the irony wasn't apparent. Yes, for all the talk about how strong Margarito was coming on, he lost the 8th on all cards, and he lost the 9th on two of the three cards. If the fight had gone another two rounds (or another five), the only change would be that Cotto's lead on the cards would be even bigger. Well, and he might have lost the eye.

After seeing the Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito fight last night for the second time, I’m now even more convinced that Cotto was saved by the referee stepping in and halting the fight after the 9th round last week to prevent Cotto from being knocked out for a second time against the tough Mexican warrior Margarito. Cotto doesn’t deserve to move on and fight Manny Pacquiao again or face Floyd Mayweather Jr. for that matter. Cotto deserves Margarito one more time.
The fight pretty much proved that Margarito beat Cotto fair and square in their first fight in 2008, because Margarito was wearing Cotto down much in the same way this time. At the end of the 9th, Cotto was looking weaker, tired and was starting to take bad punishment. Had the referee not halted the fight at that point, Margarito would have had three long rounds to work Cotto over, bust his face up, and hurt him with uppercuts like last time.
I’m convinced we would have seen Cotto down on his knees in a submissive position ready to surrender to Margarito’s force of will. I saw it happening it really makes me angry how the doctor halted a fight where Margarito could still see out of his swollen right eye. The fight needed to have continued, but the stoppage clearly favored Cotto. He didn’t have to take Margarito’s punishment when he no longer had the legs to run anymore.
I think there really needs to be a third fight between Cotto and Margarito, but this time in a neutral venue with a different doctor working the fight. It can’t be in Cotto’s neck of the woods on the East coast because we could have Cotto winning by another controversial stoppage. It needs to be Vegas or ideally Mexico. I’d prefer Mexico since we just had the fight in Cotto’s territory.
It’s only fair that the fight be held in Margarito’s home country. Right now each fighter has won one fight a piece, and Margarito’s win was a lot more impressive than Cotto’s. To find out who the better fighter is, they need one more fight but we can’t have a doctor hastily jumping in and putting a stop to it at the first sign of trouble for Cotto.
that's the same Dan Ambrose who says that Pavlik of all people will KO Bute...
Pavlik will KO Bute in November

The fight was looking pretty similar to the first fight. Cotto was getting tired and his face was beginning to show damage.

Other than Margarito couldn't see out of one eye and was losing every round. And had landed about 100 fewer punches.
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Compubox doesnt mean shit. It doesnt matter if cotto was winning rounds because he was getting hit more often as fatigue set in. he may have been scoring more but the damaging punches were landed by margarito towards the end..
those championship rounds were going to be the deal breaker but cotto lucked out..

Margarito had no shot in that fight. He knew exactly what Cotto's game plan was going to be, and he was completely unable to stop it. If the fight had continued, he just would have lost by more points and looked even worse afterward. But, as I said at the time...

When one is fatigued , every littlre punches can hurt you so whether or not margo had as much muster on his shots as he did in 08 is not that important.
cotto was definitely getting tired and margos shots were taking a toll. He was slowing down towards the end while backing up more in a straight line instead of of angles.
Those championship rounds were going to be crucial, it was the deciding factor due to cottos fatigue combined with margos style but the doctor stopped it prematurely.
Cotto was fortunate that the system and karma were on his side.
God is fair.. Karma KO margarito
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Margarito was the luckier of the two. He emerged with his eyesight, and with a handy excuse for his loss.
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Cotto was getting tired..... Margafucko was coming on..... "karma" was what TKO'ed Margafucko..... blah, blah, blah. All this frigging bitterness (ha-ha-ha).
;D
It was a TOTALLY different fight from the first one. Cotto's face was marked up, but SO WHAT? It wasn't busted up like it was in their first fight, when Margafucko (by now obviously) used the plaster wraps to break up Cotto's face and almost end his career. Cotto was tired? He was STILL moving, STILL boxing, STILL choosing when to engage Margafucko. In the middle rounds he began to engage Margafucko with toe-to-toe exchanges, ripping the scumbag with hooks to the face. HE was calling the shots, not the douche bag. The doctor, as he CLEARLY said after the fight, could've stopped the fight a few rounds earlier. He let it go on, but nothing was changing. Only that Cotto was hammering Margafucko some more, and the eye was getting worse. The only thing the doctor did wrong in MY eyes was to NOT let the fight go on. I would've liked to have seen MORE damage to the asshole's face, and maybe a KTFO.
Margafucko, along with his legions of testicle-lickers, were reduced to crying, bitching and whining about how the low-life was coming on..... how he woulda, coulda, shoulda. Now it's over, and Cotto is once again the toast of boxing. What is Margafucko? Some damaged old has been..... who got what he deserved, and can now crawl back to whatever hole he crawled out from under. History will not treat him very well. He'll always be remembered as a cheater, who once he got found out, became nothing more than a glorified club fighter.
But for those of you who continue being bitter, maybe you can go visit Margafucko and take turns letting him take out his frustrations on you in an angry, sexual way.
 :-X

He's going to have to do better than 1-3 before he gets glorified.
But yeah...his reputation is in worse shape than his eye, and it's not going to heal.
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
if the punches Cotto was STILL LANDING in the 8th and the 9th were punches thrown while he was "tired" THAN GODDAMN THAT GIRL PUNCHES LIKE A MULE WHEN HE'S EXHAUSTED...cause he rocked Tony in the 8th and still had enough strength to do to Margarito what Tony couldn't do to the smaller Cotto, which was push him around and manhandle the cheater like the bitch he is, Margarito received the gift of mercy for X-Mas, something he should hold dearly and his fans should thank God for the stoppage because it was a 1 sided ass whooping that could have left him blind
