Yes, Margarito was coming on strong late. The 8th and 9th were two of his best rounds; after all, one of the judges gave him one of those rounds.
don't see how he was coming strong when his punches weren't having any effect, he was throwing more but he wasn't landing anything solid or effective, and he did so in spurts, the harder cleaner punches were still landed by Cotto, Miguel was in NO DANGER

Sorry; I guess the irony wasn't apparent. Yes, for all the talk about how strong Margarito was coming on, he lost the 8th on all cards, and he lost the 9th on two of the three cards. If the fight had gone another two rounds (or another five), the only change would be that Cotto's lead on the cards would be even bigger. Well, and he might have lost the eye.

The fight was looking pretty similar to the first fight. Cotto was getting tired and his face was beginning to show damage.

Other than Margarito couldn't see out of one eye and was losing every round. And had landed about 100 fewer punches.

Compubox doesnt mean shit. It doesnt matter if cotto was winning rounds because he was getting hit more often as fatigue set in. he may have been scoring more but the damaging punches were landed by margarito towards the end..

those championship rounds were going to be the deal breaker but cotto lucked out..

Margarito had no shot in that fight. He knew exactly what Cotto's game plan was going to be, and he was completely unable to stop it. If the fight had continued, he just would have lost by more points and looked even worse afterward. But, as I said at the time...

When one is fatigued , every littlre punches can hurt you so whether or not margo had as much muster on his shots as he did in 08 is not that important.

cotto was definitely getting tired and margos shots were taking a toll. He was slowing down towards the end while backing up more in a straight line instead of of angles.

Those championship rounds were going to be crucial, it was the deciding factor due to cottos fatigue combined with margos style but the doctor stopped it prematurely.

Cotto was fortunate that the system and karma were on his side.

God is fair.. Karma KO margarito

Margarito was the luckier of the two. He emerged with his eyesight, and with a handy excuse for his loss.

I would question the legitamacy of that article...are refs even allowed to make comments like that?

Anyway why is this even debated still? Margarito fuckin sucks and always has, I dont care what part of the world you're from. Cotto beat his ass to the punch everytime and that wasn't changing when the fight stopped. Margarito has got to win the award for most talentless fighter getting so far in his career ever..so dont feel too bad

if the punches Cotto was STILL LANDING in the 8th and the 9th were punches thrown while he was "tired" THAN GODDAMN THAT GIRL PUNCHES LIKE A MULE WHEN HE'S EXHAUSTED...cause he rocked Tony in the 8th and still had enough strength to do to Margarito what Tony couldn't do to the smaller Cotto, which was push him around and manhandle the cheater like the bitch he is, Margarito received the gift of mercy for X-Mas, something he should hold dearly and his fans should thank God for the stoppage because it was a 1 sided ass whooping that could have left him blind
