Hatton, who was moving up 7 pounds and had a massive reach disadvantage, is hardly comparable to Ward facing the best fighters of his own natural weight class. Hatton had about as much of a chance against Mayweather as a bull does against a matador.Quote:

Maybe Hatton and Ortiz aren't the best examples. How about Hopkins beating up Pavlik? I guess that suffers similarly because Pavlik was moving up 10 pounds. Here's one: Calzaghe v. Lacy or Calzaghe versus Kessler. Calzaghe wasn't knocking people out in his later career but he put a beating on them more so. He was more offensive than Ward though. I'm not trying to be argumentative for the sake of it. There have to be top defensive fighters that score knockouts! Ortiz was the top welterweight when they fought right? However, he wasn't close to as experienced as Froch. I agree, my examples were off the top
I absolutely agree that Mayweather is more exciting than Ward. But for the most part (overwhelmingly so), when he fought the best fighters in his own weight class, he scored decisions, not knockouts. Which maybe just goes to show that you don't have to be a knockout artist to be an exciting fighter.

Look at Pacquiao - how many ko's has he scored in his recent fights? Not that many. Not one person, boxing fanatic or casual fan, says Pacquiao fights are dull. My point was just some punching power would do ward favors with his marketability. He may just have not been naturally gifted with a lot of punching power. It is what it is. However, he can build some power. Maybe if he moved up in weight he could add power? Anyway, that's just my opinion. I don't find Ward's fights boring per se.
