Saving face my ass. He fought like a moron and did everything he should not have done. Anybody who has followed the man longer then last week knows this. What do you mean this was not an ordinary rematch clause? And FYI all rematch clauses are two fight deals. That is why they are rematch clauses.
Hiding out in Canada like Sturm hiding out in Germany, Floyd hiding out in Vegas, Ward in California or Monzon in Argentina etc etc.
If Froch travels to Canada and does the same thing, there will be no more "big paydays" for Lucian Bute.
As long as hes got the fan following he´ll get the paydays. He could fight just about anyone back home in Canada and fill arenas and get the tv deal. And when I say not an ordinary rematch clause it wasnt. Most champions have a rematch clause in case they get beat but this was arranged and sold to the public as a two fight deal regardless of the outcome. Bute expected to win but was still going to have the second fight - it wasnt there as insurance for him. So for him to not take the rematch, or at least admit he doesnt want it he would lose face.

Bold = semantics.
Of course it was there as insurance. And insurance for both. They both wanted home field for a fight and because they could not agree they agreed to a two fight deal. Its still a rematch clause.

It depends really. Froch strikes me as the kind of guy that would give Bute a rematch regardless of the contractual element involved because Bute went to Nottingham to fight Froch, even though he was the champion. I have a feel Froch would respect that. If Bute feels something was off in that fight that he can fix and put things right, I don't see why not. What else should he do? Go back to Quebec and beat average guys for another five years? What will that do for him? Unless Froch would agree to a Bute fight after the Kessler fight, he may not get another shot at a title, with as much money on the line, again. Even if Froch were heavily favored, the fight would garner a lot of interest, and Bute sells out stadiums in Montreal against much lesser men than Froch.
Re: Bute wants the rematch
I don't think Bute will fight Froch immediately. As far as a rematch goes, a lot depends on the wording of the original contract. I'm guessing Bute will be heavily favoured in the contract seeing as when it was drawn up he was the champ and willing to travel to Nottingham for the first fight. Bute's people will have realised that if Bute lost Froch may fight Kessler or somebody else before a rematch and if Kessler wins I'm guessing Bute's people would much rather fight him than Froch. There is probably a contractual guarantee that Bute fights the winner of Froch-Kessler/whoever so Bute will almost certainly take a comeback fight and wait and see who he fights next.
Re: Bute wants the rematch
Cam Froch signconteacts that say Bute has to fight other fighters though?... ;)

Carls got to have an option and deservedly so. Maybe its an immediate rematch clause but I doubt it. Carl can take a well deserved holiday and fight a jobber in Nottingham.
Re: Bute wants the rematch
What Bute will need to do is move his head more , jab , get off first , and keep it at a slower pace
Re: Bute wants the rematch
Bute should take on Martinez
or maybe Pavlik to boost his confidence.
before Froch, Bute was considered by many as the best 168 out there. now Ward, Dirrell, Abraham, Kessler have a good shot in beating him if we go by the forum's collected pulse.

The contract Froch signed for the Bute fight will have Bute covered all ways. It'll say that if Froch beats Bute then fights somebody else before a rematch, then the contract for the somebody else fight must state that the winner (title holder) fight Bute next. It'll basically guarantee Bute an option of a title fight.

Being in Montreal won't do shit to help Bute, but the fans will probably burn a few cop cars once he gets knocked out again.
Simon Brown knocked out Terry Norris in 4 and in the rematch Norris won by decision. I give Bute a decent shot and making the proper adjustments to make it interesting if they fight again.
Terry Norris lost fights because he didn't have much of a chin, but he was rarely outclasses before being knocked out, even against Julian Jackson he was doing fairly well.
Bute just got dominated in every facet, wasn't so much his chin as the fact he had no answer for what Froch was doing.
Terry Norris should never have lost that fight against Brown, so that is not comparison. Bute should stay away and build up his confidence before going back in with the big boys.
Remember Taylor had a rematch clause with Pavlik but at the higher weight which was very odd. Pavlik won again but points this time and Taylor go some respect back. I think that is what Bute may want to do.
Now you know why Hopkins wanted to fight Bute.

The question was. Has a fighter who was so thoroughly dominated in the first fight ever gone on to win a rematch? Simon Brown dominated Norris that many people thought he would get knocked out again, but Norris outboxed him in the rematch. Alot of people thought Froch would get beat against Bute.
