I agree. There seem to be a lot of people who now believe that Pacquiao is some sort of unbeatable superhero and Mayweather is not fit to lace his boots - a complete role reversal from a few months ago and largely thanks to the many Pac "superfans" that post on this board (I'm looking at you fanjohn amongst others).
Pac is a very good boxer, no question but IMO there are going to be a lot of red faces admitting that they got wrapped up in all the hype when this is all over...
Floyd by comfortable stoppage for me.
If you can agree that Mayweather will beat Pac then why you seem bother by those opinions favors Pac? After all these "superfans" that youre saying has proven correct time and time again when every body says Hoya will kill pac, Hatton will just walk over pac, Cotto is too strong, etc..I am not a solid fan just voicing my opinion.
I think Pac is a very good fighter but he's also a very fortunate one.
Hoya WAS weight drained, Hatton was never elite, Cotto was too stupid.

Mike - I'm not bothered by people favouring Pacquiao - just amused at how caught up in Pac hype people are getting. He seems to be a fighter who has a hardcore army of those who believe he will win every fight because of who he is. He is a great fighter no question but people on this site are talking about him as the greatest of all time and that (again in my opinion) in nonsense.
You are perfectly entitled to your opinion as I am to mine and we will see who is rightcome fight night. If you are correct then I will be the first to congratulate you but I, honestly, cannot see how it is going to happen.

I was just saying this to somebody last week. Pacquiao, whilst being brilliant, has been fortunate.

Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
there will be questions, like what happens if floyd get caught flush? it's similar question in pacquiao-cotto where people asking what happens if cotto lands his body shots on pacquiao.

They are in their own right but ignoring OScar (because he was drained heavily), Hatton and Cotto did completely the wrong thing. Trading with Pac is the wrong way to beat him. He is faster, so he will more than likely land harder and more regularly.

there will be questions on pacquiao too. can pacquiao deal with floyd's speed and accuracy?

Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
Before I even begin to seriously comprehend a Mayweather/ Pacquiao fight. I think it's necessary to re-assess Marquez' chances against Pacquiao anywhere north of 140.
At the moment it seems that Pacquiao has grown into an equally potent model of his former 130 self. Which is bad news for Marquez. I dunno.

Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
DLH weight drained, agree.
Hatton not Elite, Disagree
Cotto fighting stupid, agree but disagree.
DLH's a no brainer.
Hatton wasn't good enough to beat PBF and Pac. He was still elite, if he's not, then elite is a very very small number of people. He was considered the man at 140 going into both fights If memory serves.
Why did Cotto not fight stupid against Zab, or Alfonso Gomez?

Pretty much what Memphis said,
Oscar looked terrible, a shell of himself.
Hatton definately elite, he was P4P top10 beat all comers in his weight class, two weight world Champ, only beat at welterweight previously to Manny, and only lost to the then P4P No1.
Cotto, now before the fight i always said Manny would beat him although many disagreed and had Cotto being too big, too strong, and way too savvy for Manny..... wrong on that night. Manny sussed him and made him pay. Cotto done nothing different to what he had always done, he was just simply beaten by the better man.
Manny continues to suprise me and it now would not suprise me to see him beat Floyd ;)
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
I don't mean to put down Hatton or his fans...they both are a spirited bunch...but Hatton was not an elite fighter. He has never been a truly GREAT fighter and in the last two years has physically declined tremendously (the Maweather fight was the last straw). He always ballooned up and down way too much between fights, add to that he was a very one dimensional fighter...you can see why he was handpicked by Roach for Manny. You don't have to take my word for it...Roach himself said the same things before the fight. Not saying all of this to put Pac down either...he beat a legit 140 pounder. Just saying it was not as incredible a win for Pac as some try to make out.

Ricky Hatton had already taken a beating for 10 rounds vs Mayweather after this fight he fought Lazcano and looked terrible but against Mallinaggi he did look better but perhaps Mallinaggi made him look better than he actualy was was he shot after Mayweather may be we will know more if he fights on and it happens again not that i want him to. I know people say but he was unbeaten at light-Welterweight but he was unbeaten at Welterweight before Mayweather fought him end of the day Hatton was good enough to win a World title off Collazo who gave Berto a good fight. Then on to Cotto i thought this could be a step to far for Pacquiao but looking at it now it was a good win but was Cotto done??? he took a hell of a beating vs Margarito then i thought he lost to Clottey and had Clottey not taken about 2 rounds off Cotto would have lost for sure so was he a little shot i don't know. Also Cotto has never weighed as low as 145lbs in all his time at Welterweight.
But my main problem at the minute with him is that how people keep going on about him Cotto was ranked number 3 by The Ring Magazine below 1,Mosley and 2,Mayweather Pacquiao beats Cotto and he jumps to number 1 its like everyone his so far up his arse. What he is doing is good but surely to be number 1 at least fight and beat number 1 just getting a bit daft for me and thats why im going of Pacquiao.
Oh sorry. What rock were you hiding under? He didn't jump to number One you fool. He was there for a long, long time before that. Ignoramus.

re

Now,
About who wins:
Look at what happens when Pac sees he can take a boxer's punches. He just lays in there with blinding combinations. Take any fight you want. Even Cotto.
But it is only effective if the fighter is weakened or softened enough by punches that he cannot think or defend himself properly. (marquez fights)
I am quite sure that Pac can take PBF's strongest punches. The question is can he soften or weaken Floyd.
If Floyd can't keep him off somehow, Pac will win. Judges like his style.
So i believe Pac wins either by decision or KO. PBF can only win by split decision or UD.
But i hope Pac can soften him up so we can see a real fight.;D

Elite and great are two entirely different things. Hatton was probably clinging onto a top 10 P4P ranking at the time of both fights and was certainly seen as the man at 140.

Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
I think alot of Cotto's problem wasn't that he fought dumb it was the fact that he was tricked by Pacquiao. The 2nd KD which changed the course of the fight was a result of Pacquiao playing possum and turning Cotto against the ropes. As for Pacquiao's success against Mayweather choosing to run I have a strange feeling he will simply not follow. (I saw hints of this in the Cotto fight). I think that he will be instructed to not lead nor counter but to pressure Mayweather until he is forced to exchange. Hatton had success at catching up to Mayweather but did not possess the handspeed, combinations or in-out angular movement to avoid being clinched. Once Mayweather throws I expect Pacquiao to bite down and simply maul him. If he is able to outwork Mayweather enough times during a round I see him standing still and inviting Mayweather. I know it sounds crazy but I've always wondered why outboxed opponents choose to eat jabs and potshots and follow the outside fighter aimlessly all night long.

I think he was elite.. It wasn't because he was slick, or didn't get hit, or didn't have his fair share of weaknesses.... But at the top of his game, he had great footwork, as good of a workrate as you will ever see from a fighter, he was strong and could push around fighters, he had a decent chin when he used his defences correctly and was paying attention, and on most nights he had good enough head movement that a lot of fighters wouldn't bother him to much...
Mayweather is a total freak of nature in the boxing ring, and to lose to Mayweather in the way Hatton did does not take anything away from how you would rank him on his own merrit..
He was elite at 140. He was strong enough, workrate (read all of above) to beat anyone at 140, or give them one HELL of a night.. At 147 I think he was a bit out of his weight, but his heart and attributes carried him through all fights until Mayweather, and even that fight he was decent and had enough to trouble Floyd, but just Floyd is to much in the end for most anyone...
Even at the top of his game, focused and sharp, he would have given Manny hell.. Although I still think Manny could have landed good shots on hiim and perhaps got him out late, he would have made Manny very sore..
He just wasn't good enoough coming into and after Mayweather, and I don't take anything away from him or his opponents for their win over him..
For all his strengths though, I honestly put him as an elite fighter from the perspective of put in opposite anyone at Hatton's natural weight, and he will be an utter handful for them and probably too much..
I don't have any hesitation in saying he was elite in that respect... Others may have different criteria for "elite", so I accept arguements against as well.

Exactly. It's surprising how many people confuse world-class, elite, great.
Hatton was P4P no.10 - according to The Ring - when Pac knocked him unconcious and 7th when losing to Floyd.

Didn't mean any disrespect.
But thank you for the clarification.
But there was no mention of Welterweight in that paragraph, thus my wrong assumption. You made it sound like Pac just jumped up there. It just sounded so dumb. ;D
I stand corrected.

Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
I have gone against Manny Pac against ODH, Hatton and Cotto, not this time, he will swarm Floyd and win on points against a retreating and defensive Mayweather.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
Some lingering questions in my mind:
1. How will PAC penetrate Floyd's defense? I read somewhere here that PBF had trouble with lefties using that Philly shell but PBF can always switch southpaw with that defenseive posture or train for it.
2.How will Manny deal with Floyd's staright right hand? Pac never had trouble with straight right hands with Cotto, Oscar and Hatton because they never had one to begin with.
3.How will Manny deal with Floyd's left hook and jab? knowing that Floyd's going to be the Fastest opponent Pac will ever face.
This are worrying questions for a Pacfan like me, my security blanket as of now for PAC is Pac's ability to take Cotto's Best shots and not get stunned and PAC's ability to drop and stun a big strong welterweight.
So if there's some aspects that I think Manny has an edge is his CHIN, POWER and AWKWARDNESS.

1. He got tagged all day by Marquez's right, though, and PBF is a lot faster than Marquez.
2. Don't think this applies to Mayweather, tbh, because I don't see Floyd walking onto any of Pac's shots/openly trading with him/being caught flush.
3. Difficult to judge on chin since Mayweather rarely gets caught flush/hard. Power won't even be an issue unless Pac catches PBF flush/coming forward [unlikely]. In terms of Awkwardness, I think you have it the wrong way round: I think Pac is going to struggle to find Mayweather and get very frustrated, causing him to throw himself forward/try to go toe to toe, and get hit over and over with the straight right.

Re: Pacquiao vs Mayweather who wins?
Pacquiao's last 3 opponents was beaten up so bad, that they had to skip the post-fight conference and rush them to the hospital instead.
Trust me. Mayweather is no special. He's gonna get ktfo faster than Cotto or DLH.

Trust me. Mayweather is no special. He's gonna get ktfo faster than Cotto or DLH.
Whatever credibility you may have had just evaporated with that statement.
Don't worry, it will precipitate hard when he's proven correct again.;D
So you feel that Mayweather is "no[t] special?"

Im not saying it will happen. but if it happened what does that make him?
if we base it on actual events. this have happened before. Remember Oscar Dela Hoya is suppose to kill Pacquiao?
Its better to avoid comments like that if its Pacquiao fighting.

We will soon find out when he faces Pac.
He has been evading true welters and hopefully we will know why when he fights Pac (who is not, by the way, a true welter but has proven himself very well against a true welter).

Regardless of whether or not PBF beats Pacquaio, he is/was a very special fighter. To say otherwise is ignorance.

Some people, myself included, picked Pac to beat ODH. Opinions on that fight were far from unanimous.
If Pacquaio beats Mayweather, by stoppage or otherwise, it will be more a reflection of his greatness than of Mayweather's weakness. It will also be by far the biggest and most impressive victory of Pacquiao's impressive career. Of course, to hear some people talk I guess it won't mean much at all considering how overrated/cowardly etc. etc. Mayweather has been accused of being.
Nothing Pacquaio does will change the fact that Mayweather is a very special fighter.

In a way he is special because of his skills but personally, he hardly excites me. His fight with Marquez though was awesome but it was already expected. Aside from that, his size did matter a lot against Marquez. He was able to attack Marquez beautifully because (whether you admit it or not), Marquez could not hurt him even with his solid punches.
IMO, Mayweather is not that special because his fights are not thrilling enough for an ignorant like me.
I love how he schooled Baldomir but we all know how sluggish Baldomir was.:-X

I agree on that mate. He's special. I even think Floyd beats Pac but we' cant be so sure about pac anymore.
Im sure we can dissect and pick apart pac's victories over Hatton, DLH and Cotto. But people do this only after they've seen those fights. It was even taboo to mention Pac againts DLH.
Pac surpasses the expectations of not just his huggers but also his haters, detractors and even bystanders..

Liking his style or not doesn't mean he is not skillful.

Sure, weight does matter just like Pac when he faced ODLH who was so weight-drained that he even ended up weighting less than Pac and went in the ring like a sluggish zombie who didn't throw a punch, agree?
Being thrilling or not doesn't make a guy a good/bad boxer.

I've literally had to take a break from this forum for a weak because I was sooo close to banging my head on the walls over hearing how overrated Mayweather is, and it's barely an achievement for Pac to beat him..
I still feel for anyone from 159 pounds down, a victory over Mayweather is probably the most prestigious prize in the whole of boxing..
Let alone from a guy who realistically could never have fought above 130 pounds and still been considered and ATG upon retirement..
And very well said, IF Pac wins, it will be a testament entirely to how good he is as a fighter, and nothing to do with any weakness on Floyd's part... He IS the fighter of the 2000's... Period...
He is an incredibly special fighter, and just because his fights aren't explosive fireworks the whole time, it is a technical defensive masterpiece... I have an incredible respect and love of boxing in all it's forms, and I can't see how anyone who has any real appreciation for the sport isn't in total awe of Mayweathers abilities. Even if you feel he could throw more and stand toe to toe a little more (try watching some of his earlier fights if that's what makes a special fighter).

Good post.
I've just had a week away for the same reason. I've gone away watching Floyd and Pacs fights and have been comparing fighters. My conclusion remains the same though, and that is that Pac seems Tailor made for PBF, who is the greatest fighter since RJJ was in his prime.
