And I stand by my previous comment. It don't matter how much I or anyone else dislike harrison he'll still come into the ring in better shape than the vast majority of the so called top ten world rated heavys.
OK let's test that theory. Here's a list of heavyweights in general some are top 10, some top 20...who is Audley more in shape than?
Tomaz Adamek
Ruslan Chagaev
Alexander Povetkin
Tony Thompson
Sam Peter
Nicolay Valuev
Dennis Boytsov
Eddie Chambers
Alexander Dimitrenko
Cris Arreola
Odlanier Solis
Alexander Ustinov
Ray Austin
Juan Carlos Gomez
Derrick Rossy
Johnathan Banks
Kali Meehan
Robert Helenius
Fransisco Pianetta
I can only pick out a few, Arreola, Solis, and Chambers jump out at me as being "Fat" or "Pudgy"....but Eddie has to have that extra weight to actually be a heavyweight. Sam Peter under 240 I consider that "in shape"
Chagaev
Povetkin
Thompson
Peter
Valuev
Chambers
Dimitrenko
Solis
Ustinov
Austin
Gomez
Rossy
Banks
Meehan
Pianetta
Helenius
Only Adamek pushes the A-Train close. I can provide pictures
Too bad the A-Train is scared of punching.
Yup.
IMO peter ain't in shape. If he hasn't been ko'ed by the seventh he'll sure as hell be spent physically.
Sam Peter is ten times better fighter than Audley though, no matter if he is a 12 round fighter or not, Audley poses and fights 45 second round his stamina is shocking, he has a nice pair of pecs and abs woop dee doo daa, does not mean he is in shape.
lol Audley is in better shape than sam peter simple. Thats done and closed.
Just seen a bit of the press conference. Amusing stuff actually....
For what it's worth Harrison beat Peter in the amatuers just before the Olympics. Both fighters are too shit to be ten times better than any human. ;D

What a chicken.
Yeah, it's beyond lame isn't it. A fighter who fights twice a year tops and wants to be retired in a handful of fights going on to fight.....Audley Harrison?
The public are mugs and he knows it.
How are the public mugs? People that buy this fight are paying to be
entertained. How do you know they won't get that?
The are mugs because they are buying into a meaningless fight. Audley Harrison has done nothing to deserve a shot at the title. From what I have seen of Harrison he is not particularly entertaining and doesn't throw. Haye is going to be all over him and it will likely be over early. I like good competitive fights and this is clearly not one of them.
It's a rubbish matchup, Fenster. Fact.
Don't watch it then. Simple.
Just because it doesn't interest you it doesn't make fans that will watch it mugs. Whatever happens many fans will have an entertaining night - hardcore and casual.
You might as well say - anyone that doesn't share your interests are mugs.
I won't watch it. No way am I waking up at 6am to watch this. The only chance I will watch is a replay if Harrison lands the lucky shot.
No proper boxing fan is genuinely going to enjoy this charade. It's a farcical matchup. World boxing champ against ancient domestic opponent who hasn't beaten anybody. Pointless.
I think the people who want to see decent title fights are well within their rights to expect such a thing. A title shot should be earned and not handed out to anybody.
We all know that if there is money to be thrown at nothing then it can happen, but only mugs are paying to watch Audley Harrison at this stage.
Have you ever
bought tickets or PPV for a boxing fight?
Considering that I have spent the past 8 years out of country where the option for doing so doesn't exist I would have to say no. If I had the options you can bet your life I would, the good fights I would watch and others I would skip.
I hope you are not going to lead onto the "you don't pay for it therefore you shouldn't have an opinion" type of argument. I'm a boxing fan and like to see good fights. The fact that I live in Asia shouldn't really exclude me from boxing and having opinions entirely.
That's fair enough. You are a
mug too then.
Some mugs like different boxing events to you, thats all ;)
I hope you are including yourself in this rampant muggery, Fenster. After all wasn't it Shakespeare who said "We are all but mugs with bowels of tea and coffee". Or was it Marlowe? I always get them confused.
If people are genuinely up for this fight, then fair enough. But on the forums I only really see mockery and condemnation. Most of us know that it isn't a real or particularly meaningful fight. I'm sure the ensuing KO will make some laugh, but I just like my big fights with a little more meaning. I love Calzaghe, but you will never catch me defending the Manfredo fight. There are some fights that the fan of boxing would much rather just skip. Hornfinger is right that 90% of fights are pointless, but you expect the ratio to go down markedly when it comes to world title fights. But yeah, not always the case.
Haye with only 3 or 4 fights left is of course right to take easy money, but the boxing purist always wants more than money to add to the legacy. Of course, it's as a boxing fan that I am always coming from. The money option doesn't really compute for me.
Just stop calling people mugs for paying for boxing.
It's no different to calling people mugs for paying to see certain movies, concerts, sporting events, that you don't like. Most paying boxing fans are not forum nerds like us lot. They don't care whether a fighter "deserves" it or the "meaning" of it, they just want to enjoy themselves.
Yeah, you have a point there. They just want a battle of Britain and they have that. And you know that is fair enough. But if Haye doesn't go for the Klits after this, then he deserves far harsher mockery!
Just as I want to see Manny fight Mayweather, I also want to see Haye take on a Klit. Is that too much to ask? LaMotta fought Robinson about 183 times and yet in this day and age nobody will fight even the one time. When even the filler takes six months, you have to wonder will you ever get the big fight.

All hardcore boxing nerds agree with you. We want Haye-Klit, Pac-Mayweather, Khan-Bradley etc...
Haye deserves shit because as a top 4 ranked heavyweight and "world" champion there are far more harder challenges than the European champion - Audley. However, barring a Klit, there really aren't any bigger money fights for him than Audley. Adamek, Arreola, Peter.. these guys are unknowns to the wider British public. It's just business.
If Robinson and LaMotta could have earned £10million for one fight they would have been once a year fighters too.

To be fair mate Augie Sanchez beat Floyd Mayweather in the amatuers, in the pro game Sam Peter would smash Audley to pieces. Audleys best win is still a 2 week notice shot fat out of shape Danny Williams five years ago.

No, I disagree. I found that press conference painful. A lot of that was so forced. It was admitted that Audley didn't deserve a shot. It was admitted that it was for the public (ie. a conman enterprise).
Where is the entertainment in such a charade? And obviously there is no meaning whatsoever.
It's just such a stupid fight.

I sound like a fucking broken record but if Ruiz is seen as soft Harrison is a foooooking joke, like I keep saying Harrison has never beat a guy in the top 50, he has never even been British Champion. He was Euro champ by de fault it's a shame the Polish fella got a shot at Vitali Harrison would already have retired after being beat again.

Yes I suppose let him fight Audley and lets see if it's Klits next if not we should boycott the fucker for good.

Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
Just seen Audley a message of support on twitter:
@audley_harrison you have the chance to become the worst heavyweight champion in history - don't blow your chance! Actually throw punches.
No doubt he'll block me as well just like Floyd, Amir khan and David Haye all have. ;D

I'm such a sucker... this morning i thought whats the point, after watching the conference and the after interviews i'm actually looking forward to this one. :embarassed:
it could be great for british boxing but they have both had stamina issues in the past and they have both been to scared to get involved in the past so i just hope it aint another black eye for the sport and they really go at it.

I can't see it being a fight, I see Harrison doing what he usually does - backing off, not throwing anything and generally being scared. Then again, Haye is bound to be a bit cautious at the start as he's obvously seen that punch which knocked Michael Sprott the fuck out. Fully expect a quick KO though, within three rounds. Once Haye lands his first properpunch, he'll go in for the kill and it won't take long for Audley to fall on his arse. Then Haye will be mouthing off to Adam Smith how he is 'coming for the Klits'. ;D

I agree with the first paragraph but whole heartedly disagree with the second, unless you want someone like tyson fury fighting for the title which would probably be harrison's first defence (realistically though it would be a rematch with haye).
It's obvious that haye has nothing to gain in this fight but absolutely everything to lose. From that point of view it's a silly fight to take.
You wholeheartedly disagree that seeing Harrison beating David Haye wouldn't be something to behold? I'd fucking love it and I am sure many other people would, too.
It would be hilarious and it would force the planet boxing to rethink some of their system in order to do something for the HW that would reach some new heights in matter of laugh-ability

Just think Haye is getting that much for fighting a bum compared to both Klit Brothers fighting top 10 HWs and getting about half that.
So in other words, it's just business. Hell, if I was Haye I would fight a bunch of Audley Harrisons and avoid the Klits for the next 4-5 years and make money in safe fights and then fight them when they're old and possibly shot and then calling it a career after 1 big payday.
That is all very well but, if that's the case, you shouldn't have spent the past two years calling them out and then pull out of two fights. You will be liable to looking rather silly.
And that's the issue right there. It's not that Haye is fighting yet another gimme opponent in Harrison, plenty of fighters do the same thing, it's that he's fighting yet another gimme opponent after talking all that shit about the Klitschko's, got everyone excited about the HW division for once, and then turned down multiple fights with them.
It's looking like Haye is little more than a con-man who has used his ability to talk to generate a massive amount of interest in him while delivering very little. That will make him a lot of money in the short-term, but his credibility is beyond suspect at this point.
-
I know I'm of the minority but I am actually looking forward to this and I will pay for it. Hell, I would've gone to it if it was in a different venue as I've already watched Haye Vs Ruiz at The MEN. O2 would've been cool.
I doubt for a second Haye is proud of fighting Harrison but put yourself in his shoes:
Fight Harrison for $15m and then a Klit for at least $15m again
Or just fight the Klit for approx $15m ??
Everyone takes the first option, that's business. Haye WILL fight a Klit, he knows he has to or he'll forever be known as a joke. Even Booth has said this on record so you know Haye is more than aware.
-
Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
He talked shit for over 2 years and then fights Monte Barrett, everyone said "Give him a pass, let him get accustomed to the division and extra weight"...he kept mouthing off and fought Nicolay Valuev "Let him win a belt so he can negotiate better with the Klitschko's", he kept on mouthing off and fought John Ruiz "Well he has to fight his mandatory", and up until recently he's been quiet and now he's fighting Audley Harrison and people STILL want to give him a pass "Let him build his fan base up in England...THEN he'll fight the Klitschko's".....I'm begining to think the likes of Barrett, Valuev, Ruiz, and maybe Harrison assuming Chicken Little can pass that "test" are the best fighters he can hang with at heavyweight...he MAY fight Adamek, (but I've heard rumors that Adamek has 1 more fight and then Vitali, but nothing is set in stone) but even then you really start to question his skill, his dedication, and his ethics....is he in fact white washing his career to make a fight vs a Klitschko look a lot closer than it will actually be?
SIGNS POINT TO YES
I doubt he ever fights a Klitschko and if he does he'll be humiliated...or his fans will be, I bet Chicken Little knows what's coming to him if he dares set foot in the ring with Wladimir.
Oddly enough I think fights vs Povetkin and Boytsov would be quality....if he has ANY trouble with Harrison then he should steer well clear of Dimitrenko and Pianetta
-
Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
is it just me or did anytone else think harrison won that press conference? he really got under hayes skin;D
-
Be honest Lyle, if you was in Haye's shoes what would you do?
Forget what your feel about Haye, what would YOU do if you could take an extra $15m for a gimme fight before a mega fight with a Klit? Or would you pass on the $15m and go straight into the mega fight?
If given the chance I can't see anyone on this board passing on that kind of money just to save face.

Why the fuck is Haye saying Harrison don't deserve a shot? He is not his mandatory and he don't need to fight him if he don't want to:confused:

If it was just that simple...if it was just a clear cut "Take a $15m fight and THEN get the huge payday" then sure I'd take the 1st fight.
HOWEVER
Had I been calling out the champ for 2 years and disrespecting him then as a man there's only 1 fight I could make and accept and that's the big one vs the champ
The moral of the story is "Don't let your mouth write a check your ass can't cash" and that my friends is why I thoroughly dislike Chicken Little.
-
He does make me laugh, he was saying how the whole of the UK wants to see Audley KO'd big time and he's pleased to be the one to do it.
I tell you something though, he better take it seriously as Audley should train and fight his guts out. This is his biggest ever fight and what he's always wanted. He's going to be up for landing some big shots on Haye.
I still can't get over the fact Audley might be a world champ and end up fighting the klitschkos! Makes me laugh my ass of just thinking about it!

If you're going to quote paraphrase Top Gun, who in this fantastic camp-fest that is the Haye-Harrison merry-go-round is that minor officer who's only line is "I want some butts!"
My guess is the host of the press conference who's making this out to be the British heavyweight fight of the century. Personally, I'd rather watch Rogie Skelton again.

Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
I've never seen Harrison fight, so I don't know why everybody says he's terrible...but based upon some interviews, I'm pulling for him. Go Harrison!

Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
I've now slept on the formal announcement of this fight and I have to say I feel a lot more positive about it this morning.
The press conference was hilarious, and the build up is really going to be something else in the UK.
Looks like I'm going to be on the phone to Ticketmaster for myself and MarkTKO.

Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
Haye and Harrison are both on Daybreak (ITV) this morning for anyone in the UK. Sat on the sofa trash talking each other - how very believeable.

Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
Haye has just said the Kitschko's don't treat him like a champion in negotiations. He says he's not one of these guys who will sign up to fight them and sign anything to do so.

Re: Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow
Mark my words, 6 months from now when Haye is fighting Evander Holyfield, the people that are defending Haye in this thread will justify that fight by saying George Foreman won the HW (lineal) title at 45 and a matchup with Holyfield is good.

I don't think many on here are defending Haye outright. But they understand the lure of $15m for fighting a man of Fraudleys class.
