I'd bet everything I own that Floyd has made it one of his demands for the fight. No way does he come into the ring first after nearly a year and a half out. I'm sure Ortiz will be ok with it, though. He will be happy just to share a ring with Floyd.
Oh man, thats worse than catchweights imo, the champion should come out last. Ortiz better keep his mentality in check and walk like a champ.
To early for my brain to work properly but it just happened not to long ago...... where the champ came out first... it was obviously a demand by the challenger with the bigger name.... uh....

Someone is suspect.
Makes me wonder the same thing specially after someone agrees to all your terms and conditions and only asks you to comply with just one: random blood tests. Add to that all the silly contradicting excuses Manny has come up with as well as his trainers and Bob Arum.

Wow.
Why would a promoter give a $40 Million Guarantee to Floyd for Ortiz when he got $22.5 for Mosley. Mosley was a mar-key name, while Ortiz is only breaking into the PPV scene. Golden Boy wouldn't match $5 Million for Marquez, they sure as hell wouldn't put up a purse more than $30 Million on Ortiz vs Mayweather. If Mayweather were to put up his own money to promote the fight, Assuming he get a $20 Million site fee and a $20 Million Guarantee, I could believe a gross $40 Million Guarantee. But first, I doubt he would put up the money, second I don't believe Vegas would pay $20 Million for the fight. $10-$15 Million Yea possibly. For that kind of money they need 750K guaranteed PPV sales to break even. The decision maker would need to be confident of 1 million ppv sales to buy into it. Ortiz just doesn't have a big enough name to make that happen.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
This is a good fight before Floyd fights Pac Man as Floyd has been inactive and needs to some rounds, it re-creates hype for the Manny fight, Ortiz is a southpaw, young and very hungry which is the type of opponent Pac Man has recently avoided. Floyd could do no better at welter than choose this opponent, the best available challenger. I hope Ortiz pulls out a victory which is doubtful but having seen the guy on ESPN he sounded a good guy who will give his all in this fight.

On the other hand, Mayweather is the lineal champ at the weight while Ortiz just owns an alphabet strap. I don't care about an alphabet holder coming out 2nd, but I've no time for THE MAN of the division being treated as the challenger in the way Martinez was against Williams.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
i for one am excited for this fight, especially after what ortiz did to berto, sure i would rather see maywaether-pacqiou but who the fuck wouldn't...truth is, bob arum is a scumbag and he can careless about pacqiou, he wants to milk pacqiou for everything he is worth and make his final payday of packman against mayawether, because truthfully it'll be an epic fight, but pcaqiou just does not have the tools, nor does ortiz, but both are good fights that i will enjoy watching, its ll politics folks, don't get caught up, may and pac will fight, and today either fighter is scared is just plain fucking stupid, they are both all time greats, don't get scared like some of u pussies

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Floyd and Ortiz are comming to the uk to promote the fight and Floyd will be doing abit training for the fans. He always said he liked the british fans ;D. Not sure why it will need promoting here tho as floyd doesnt normaly fight on ppv here.

Out of interest, for everyone saying this is a dud fight, who could/ should have Floyd fought? (excluding PAC)
I've also just learnt the fight is at 160! That's huge for Floyd, has he been on the Hatton diet?

It's a welterweight bout of 147.. I dont know where you got that 160. You're probably talking about Ortiz rehydrating up to 160 on the night of the night.

Read it on Skysports, I thought it seemed big! They even brang up the Oscar fight about the weight increase.

Sky has to be mis-informed then because there's no reason why the fight would take place at 160.
Floyd always stays in-shape and his walk around weight isnt much different from where he's fighting at.
This fight is for ORtiz' 147 WBC title.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
160 ? Really. Would be interested in seeing if they are talking about this being higher than 147.Hey I wouldn't doubt it ya know. Forget it being big for floyd, we're talking about a guy in Ortiz who has ONE official Welterweight fight. Wasn't he the one being called smaller then Berto etc etc. I know he has the wingspan of a Condor but wow.
-
The more I think about it, the less likely it seems. Maybe Sky just made that bit up.
Especially because there's a title on the line.

I don't see the point in this fight at all other than to make a little bit of pocket change.
The ONLY rational behind it is some sort of tune up fight to see if he still has 'it'.
He's been out the ring for over 18 months I think, so at least he has that excuse for not being in a competetive fight.
ALSO this fight is only going to amplify accusations from pactards etc that he is 'scared' of pacroid.
Really I don't know why he'd go ahead with this fight. Might as well stay retired.
Ok I see the phrase "pacroid" so I will take it that you believe that he uses steroids. I am waiting for Floyd Sr and Jr to show us the proof they have that he has or currently does use steroids. Until then I will lump that accusation with the same people who accuse Floyd of being "Gayweather".
:vd:
Oh well at least I get to use my quotes again....

I think the ultimate source was Sky Sports, who obviously got their wires crossed, assuming we all know Ortiz fights at around the 160 mark.

I read it on sky sports. But I googled it today and the page has been changed, I think it's safe to say sky made a fuck up.
At a weight of 160 Ortiz would be massive, it seemed odd, which made it seem a bit more interesting. At welter Ortiz gets taught a lesson.
But I can see why the fights been made and I'm still looking forward to it.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Well I honestly hope you are right and I'm proved wrong. :)

The truth
Lets just think for a second. Mayweather has defeated everyone directly or in directly responsiable for pacmans superstardom. He out boxes a supersized De la hoya, then he kos an undefeated Richy hatton after out boxing and punishing him to the body for 10 rounds, then he out boxed Marquez for 12 rounds and made it look easy, and let me say this, weight had nothing to do with it, it was pure boxing that neutralized Marquezs attack. Then he whipped Moesly by out boxing him,Moesly was coming off a career high win looking better than he had in recent years. Now Mayweather is preparing to beat a young hungry fast strong hard hitting big as hell welter weight that many believe is the best mexican boxer to come along in recent years. Before the Mandaina fight they were calling him the new golden boy
Now lets break down pac mans recent fights that lead him to stardom in the eyes of the blind. Starting with De la hoya, he was weight drained and needed an IV because of dehydration from weight draining. Even then Pacman couldnt finish him, Oscar quit because he had no energy and could not defend himself. Hatton was damage aswell due to the beating he took from P4P CHAMP Mayweather Jr. Coming off of his 1st loss that was the beginning of the end of his career. The mental beating was equal to the physical beating he took from Mayweather. Roach new this and said it many times leading up to the fight. He also said the same for Dela hoya leading up to the Pacman fight. Next poor wash up x champ was Cotto. God knows he took a very bad beating from Tony and he will never be the same. Roach knew this and they jump to fight the washed up Cotto. Then comes Clottey, who know one outside the boxing community knew. He has lost every major fight hes been in. Very rugged but no real skills, plus its been rumored he was paid off not to fight back. Is its true? I don't know but it sure as hell looked that way. Then there was Margarita, who was knocked out by Moesly, then suspended from boxing, causing a long lay off after being ko'ed. Roach thought this was a good opponant for pacman, lol. Then there was moesly who was defeated and embarresed by the great Mayweather. When Moesly was hot and dangerous who fought him ? Mayweather! Who didn't? Pacman. After being defeated and embaressed twicein a row. Roach saw fit to fight him. Are you seeeing a patterned yet? If your an x champ coming off of a loss by knock out then you can expect a call from team pacman. When will Pacman fight a true champion, meaning someone who comes to win. A young strong hungry hard hitting boxer coming off of a string of victories not losses. No catch weights , no IV'S. MAYWEATHER IS SINGLE HANDEDLY SAVING BOXING. Please look at the press, news, websites, forums, ESPN. All the talk about Mayweather vs Ortiz, not Pacman vs Marquez, thats been done twice already. Why not fight Berto, hes coming off a loss, lol.

Yes Sky confused me as well with the 160lb Ortiz title holder. It was like that presenter asking Groves when he would fight Khan. Thick.

I don't get all the hate for this fight, though. He is fighting the best available opponent, is fighting a big hitting southpaw who nearly always drops his opponents yet people are STILL moaning. The fact he has chosen to fight a southpaw who likes to come forward gives me that idea.
I'm 99% sure Sky Sports will be showing it live as well so really looking forward to this fight. As someone else mentioned on here, funny how Floyd is criticized for taking this fight and yet people are alright with some of Pacquiao's recent opponents.
I don't always like Pacquiao's choices of opponents, but since Mayweather has ducked him for the last 3 + years, who exactly is he suppose to fight that he hasn't?
exactly. but you know his haters want him to fight martinez. if he fought berto instead of mosley and blew him out they will say berto is green. if he fought ortiz and blew him out they will call ortiz quitter. and when roger mayweather said pac took steroids everyone of floyd groupies bow down and agree with him. im not racist and i have plenty of african-american friends, but i have to ask this, why is it when black fighters lose or in jeopardy of losing a fight always say that their opponents are taking steroids ie. andre berto on ortiz "he was on something and its not flintstones", or jean pascal on bernard hopkins, and floyd and co. on manny pacquiao? that "a-side meth" crap is hilarious and still people buy their story. if that so call a-side meth is true then we(filipinos) would have invaded every damn country there is because we were supposed to be bullet proof. instead it took us 300 years to get rid of the spaniards and we were under japanese and american rule for a while.

Why is it that Filipinos don't want Pac to get his blood randomly tested? Do they know there is a risk to be caught with something? Heck, I would expect Pac fans to have a different attitude like "Hell yeah! We'll have our guy tested to prove he's ready to fight whenever and then kick your guy's ass in the ring. So come on! Let's get tested and lets get ready to rumble" instead, all we hear are excuses on why he shouldn't take the tests: he's afraid of needles, blood makes him nervous, a nurse might poke his arm in the wrong way and hurt him, he can't train properly for more than a week, etc.
