I really don’t understand why everyone feels the need to give Miller paydays? It’s one of the ugliest things about the sport.

The closer this fight is coming the more excited I am becoming about it.
I realise it is a manufactured fight and there is no real big urge or need for it aside from a rich billionaire boxing fan, but he could do worse with his money.
This is all about securing Terrence Crawford’s legacy. Nothing for Canelo who is expected to win as the bigger stronger and more well-known star of the sport.
Crawford looks supremely confident in his own casual and reassured way. His answers to questions seem genuine and not contrived.
I became a fan of Crawford slowly and have been watching his past fights with more attention as this event is being more promoted. He truly is a class operator who is just talented in every aspect of the sport. He is so self-assured and genuinely believes he will beat Canelo not just picking up a pay cheque.
No way do I think he will stop Canelo or even beat him, but I can see him go the distance. I would love for Crawford to pull off a win. That would be truly incredible and would put him up there with the greats of Boxing. It would be a 3-weight undisputed champ which has not been done by anyone before.
As I said, this is all Bud Crawford, and all eyes are on him on how he will handle Saul Alvarez.
If Ginger somehow loses to a blown-up welterweight..... I'll be laughing for at least a month.
More and more sounds as if they are aiming to air this afternoon or early evening to lead into Danas Ufc card that same night. Promotion has given us no clear indicators thus far but if this match truly merits "historic"...we all know the deal...it definitely cannot/should not be a glorified undercard for the same company's other venture. The whole conflict of interest will be ongoing with Dana and Tko me thinks. Good news is they brought back Kellerman to announce for it :-X. I always liked Max. Also some Ufc announcer who likes to shout a lot, but we'll see what he knows about boxing I suppose.
Well... well... well. :D Here we are a little more than a month away. As expected, the hype is ratcheting up. The Hype Machine is in full swing, with Dana White even (stupidly) calling it "one of the biggest fights ever."
Right, bud.
By the time fight time comes around, both casuals and Canelo groupies will barely be able to contain their excitement over what The Hype Machine is managing to portray as a genuine challenge to the ginger-haired diva.
Never mind that this is STILL basically a 3-weight division leap by the sacrificial lamb... er... by Crawford.
Never mind that Crawford has had exactly ONE WHOLE FIGHT at 154, and failed to put his opponent away.
Never mind that Ginger has made a career of ducking the true knockout dangers to his record, and feasted on miniature fighters with big names and deluded aspirations.
Never mind any of that.
The Hype Machine has done, and continues doing, it's job. ;)
I'm definitely feeling that! Canelo vs Crawford? That’s the kind of fight that makes boxing fans lose their minds. Both guys are straight killers in their own weight classes. Canelo’s got the power and experience, but Crawford’s got that slick, next-level skill. If this actually goes down, it’s gonna be fire! Who you got?
...EXCELLENT. The buzz around this is reaching beyond Mayweather/Pacquiao levels in terms of the marketing and reach and scope of the promotions. I'm seeing the promoters HAVE to be open to using these social media content creators... Never have I seen so much content from YouTube and Facebook about this fight. This is good stuff!!
I'm glad someone is tuned to the fight build-up, because I sure haven't. ;D
"The buzz around this is reaching beyond Mayweather/Pacquiao levels in terms of the marketing and reach and scope of the promotions."
If this is true, it speaks volumes about the nature of boxing and its fans today. It is beyond sad that the buzz around this sham of a fight would approach any mega-fight, much less the build-up to the (disappointing) Floyd-Pac showdown. That build-up had reason to be, even if the fight was expired in terms of the peaks of both fighters. But it was still considered somewhat of an even fight going in, where each had an equal chance. Each was putting his legacy on the line... but sadly the fight itself disappointed.
Canelo-Crawford to me is more like Jake Paul vs Tank... Kareem Abdul Jabbar vs Bruce Lee... or Ali vs Andre the Giant.
The fact there's a buzz basically says that boxing has attracted zillions of casuals, who couldn't tell a real boxing classic if it reared up and smacked them in the face.
Marketing and promoting will make a spectacle of just about anything... and like the old saying goes: "There's sucker born every minute." I'm sure the odds will be ridiculously close by fight time. Then... after the inevitable win by Ginger... the hordes of casuals that looooovvvveeee Ginger will claim they've seen the best fight since Ali-Frazier I. (Well... actually, they won't. Because most of these casuals probably have no earthly idea who Frazier was).
I would predict a KO win by Ginger over the bloated Crawford... but Crawford will likely pull a Charlo, and make it a long, boring decision win for Ginger.
This is a huge event but really is manufactured. There is no real logical reason for it other than Turki putting the money up for it.
I will stay up 4am for this fight and will be supporting Crawford but can't see him win this. I would love it if he wins and it will be huge if Bud pulls off the upset.
This is just a crazy fight that should not happen.
Most big fights do not need to be manufactured to this extent. Crawford is going up two weights against the established champion. There was no demand for this fight by boxing fans but I will be watching in the hope Bud can win.Quote:

No skin off my back, bro. I won't be watching this circus live, but I'll for sure see highlights in the sports shows I frequent. I'll also be laughing at the casuals trying to pass this off as a great Ginger victory, enhancing his (cough) "legacy."
Some real fans will watch because, let's face it... in the vacuum of REAL boxing fights these days... boxing fans in need of a "fix" will watch damn near anything. :D
Merged thread
Thinking about maybe how far Canelo has slowed down and looking less impressive. Berlanga went points with Alvarez yet was blown away in his last fight by Hamzah Sheeraz.
But being 'hyped up' for something is completely different from simply acknowledging its mere existence ;D. I'll remain pretty skeptical about TKO and Dana riding this as a promotion debut trojan horse into boxing. Canelo literally said he'll get no credit for beating him ;D. And then the Turki came flapping. To me, two of the very best Stateside fighters basically opted out of huge fights in their respected divisions and want to be anointed ATG for it. If anything, this is a backdoor 'name$ meeting for the sake of name$' manufacture on both. Next thing you know we'll have a cruiserweight fighting a lightweight who opted out of big fights also :-X and it will come off as a massive event. But hey boxing.
This should be bigger than it is. Netflix not doing a good job. Crawford is chasing greatness if he wins this huge legacy fight.

Turki Alalshikh wanted Alvarez and Crawford to face each other, and - as he does - he got what he wanted. The cheque-book did the convincing.
Alvarez will earn a reported purse of $150m (£111m). Crawford, long frustrated by smaller purses, will take home at least $10m (£7.4m), with the total pot expected to top $200m.
This fight is the equivalent Hagler v Leonard for me.
This is getting more and more exciting. Crawford getting booed is wrong. No rehydration clause, catch weight, going up 2 weights to take on the undisputed. He will be a legend if he wins!

Crawford looks good at the weight.

Again... I'll give Crawford all the credit in the world if he pulls off the upset. But I don't think he will. In which case Ginger gets NONE of the credit.
Really have not followed much of this lead up and really not invested in either outcome. But a few random things come to mind as far as fight itself. Only way I can see Bud scoring a ko is to actually bust Canelo up badly. And I wouldn't completely rule that out, but slight chances. The two division jump coupled with 1 fight in the span of over 2 years at his age is the height of irresponsibility and the feel of phoning it in from Bud, just can't get around that. There are serious questions as to his cardio and effects on speed and how his effective switch hitting will play out. But unlike Charlo, I think if Bud is dropped or hurt his instinct will be to look for quick payback. Of all scenarios, I cannot see Crawford going into strict survival mode and making it a track meet. He will fight and that could very well speed up a downfall...then again when's the last time Canelo was in a dog fight?! You simply cannot deny that Canelo had been "fighting from his golf cart" for a few years now. Physically he's on a slide, but also mentally I have no idea where he really is. He's clearly been coasting and even on occasion refusing to step on the gas and widen leads or close shows. At what stage did it go from being a willingness to do so and become an inability to do so? Fair play to either hand raised but I just do not buy all the "instant GOAT" talk that comes with a Crawford W. That's not how it works and 1-2 wins do not put you in all time elite. And while I hear all the talk about multi division champ and great belt collector etc. let's all go ahead and try to name all the greats he was unifying with at 135-140;D:-X. I dunno, I have no idea whatsoever what will happen tonight. But personally, I will have always preferred a tried and true route by top tier champions and been much more interested in Canelo-Benavidez and Crawford taking names in a stacked 154 or then a venture to 160. Big fan of Bud but this manufactured match up will always feel like a guy trying to, in a very strange way, take a shortcut to greatness. But it is what it is, may the best man win. Oh and exactly WHEN does this card start???. I assumed Netflix would be airing the full undercard ala every other Riyadh Season card but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Brandon Adams repeats win against Bohachuk via Unanimous 10 rounds. Thought it was a much closer fight, pretty good fight. Kellerman on the mic not exactly the Kellerman I remember ;D. Kissing the ring way too much. Sounds like he wants to "talk to Dana about making a BMF belt" :D.
Televised pre-fight hype in its full splendor. Pretty sure it must’ve brought a tear to many a groupie eye. Gotta hand it to these people. They can take a meritless shit show and turn it into gold. You got the expected celebrities. Ward… Kellerman… others… singing the fight’s praises. “Fight of the Century”…. “The Face of Boxing”…. and other phrases worthy of “oohs” and “aahs.”
That’s the thing about boxing hype. It’s like a snowball rolling downhill. There’s not stopping… and the closer it gets to the bottom of the hill… the bigger it gets. Never mind it started out as a snow-covered pebble. It becomes a virtual avalanche as it rolls along.
Knowledgeable fans decrying the fight get swept aside. Nothing gets in the way of the hype. “Best Fight Ever.” Being compared to Ali-Frazier, Leonard-Hearns, etc, etc. The venue is being lauded as the only possible place big enough to hold such a gargantuan event.
It’s enough to make one vomit.
Good evening, Gents... been a while!
Nice opening round(s) by the time this posts ;D. Mbilli is all action but somehow I think Martinez has the natural sapping type strength down the stretch. Fair to say he has "rehydrated" just fine. Competitive scrap early. Netflix here glitching in and out but doing ok. This Ufc fella they put on the announce reminds me of Ranallo.
Site is mega slow. Mbilli-Martinez fight is a good one. Don't think I'll make the Canelo-Crawford circus... er... fight. We'll see.
Fun fight had Mbilli up by 1 maybe but ruled a draw. There are some fighters you just feel like you've seen exactly where they are going. As fun as Mbilli is I think he's one of those. Straightline 1 gear offense head to chest. But Ward was spot on saying a basic step offs to side opens up more windows on him. He does rush over himself badly. Callum Walsh next up. Looks like he's the TKO poster-boy.
Only saw the last round of Mbilli vs Martinez and that was epic!
Vargas v Walsh on now which is the co-main event.
Can't find the answer, but when was last time Canelo was cut? Walsh and Vargas pretty quiet early.
I remember the dad, Fernando Vargas snr who was a talented, skilled and elite world class boxer. His son will not live up to that height.
Vargas is going for the body and Walsh head hunting.
Max Kellerman has been overhyping thie significant of this event all week.
Pretty clear Mbilli-Martinez should have been co-main. Walsh and Vargas here are in a pose-off over 7 rounds. Max says this fight has most significance of all the undercard fights, but I just can't connect those dots. Bus ok prospect match up unfolding so far. On a side note have never agreed more with Andre Ward than I have over this undercard so far. And that's rare ;D.
Walsh convincingly outpoints Vargas.
Loads of Netflix actors. Mark Walberg selling the Ring belt. They were trying to sell Teo v Shakur earlier this week which I don't mind.
I assume this is free everywhere and not PPV? If it is then that can only be a good thing.
What was Crawford carrying into the ring?
