Why doesn't American accent describe him? Gibson is American.
He's Australian, isn't he?
He was born in Peeksgill, New York in 1956, his grandmother was australian in fact she was an opera singer, they went to australia in 1968 sydney in fact. His mother is actually Irish and Mel holds dual citizenship Irish - American

Rather complicated. Fair play on the info though! ;)

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I don't get the whole dual citizenship thing. Pick a country, already. I think Ireland just wants to claim Gibson- I don't think he's ever lived there.

It's not a matter of Ireland wanting to claim Gibson. It has to do with Irish law whereby those who have an Irish-born parent automatically are considered an Irish citizen. In very few instances, you will also be eligible if you have a great-grandparent who is or was an Irish-born citizen.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Last movie I watched was "The Wolfman".
It was alright. Pretty good special effects and gore. Bare bones story though, and Anthony Hopkins kinda sleep walked thru his parts. He's a much better actor than what he showed in the movie.
And I recently saw Universal Soldier: Regeneration with Jean Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren AND Andre Arlovski !
That was a pleasant surprise and actually pretty fuckin bad ass. Probably the best Van Damme movie in nearly 10 years.
I highly reccomend it to any action or Van Damme fans

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I watched two great films this weekend.
Un Prophet which was best film I have seen in many months.
Un prophète (2009)
and
Dead Snow
Død snø (2009)
This was a hilarious swedish zombie flick , very gory and very entertaining.
Look at me watching all the cultured subtitled stuff...:o
Now about to order a pizza and watch Hurt Locker - watch this space for verdict
-
re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
i been sufering with tonsilitous all weekend so spent most of weekend in bed watchin films as cat get any antibitoics from doc till tomorrow so watched loadsa films
dead man running this is another british crime movie but is actually pretty good its abt a guy who has to pay a loan shark back in 100 grand in 24 hrs. 50 cent plays the loan shark & although its a pretty wooden performance he isnt in it alot. i slagged off british crime films recently so am happy to report that this one i enjoyed.
The stepfather thought this one was good flick its been done plenty of times before but this is better than most, a guy on the run after butchering his previous family moves in with a new family & the son just back from military school doesnt trust him but everyone else thinks he is the perfect stepfather.
conspiracy tv movie abt recreation of the Wannsee Conference where the Nazi Final Solution phase of the Holocaust was devised.
also watched the bourne identity & collateral

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
that Stepfather sounds a bit like a John Travolta one I saw a few years ago (can't remember what its called). Will give that a try
Forgot to say I also watched Zombieland last night . Very funny with a genius cameo from Bill Murray - well recommended

Classic hustling !
When watching the film, some of the shots they were pulling off were awesome, i wonder how many takes some of them scenes took before they got it right. It makes Tom cruise look like some God on the table, i wonder if he is any good

I love the Hustler, Paul Newman was brilliant in that film, colour of money had more trick shots in it, but not as good a film but worth watching. Especially if you play pool, as all men should.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
so I watched The Hurt Locker - yes sure it was good and all that , better than average, but I have to wonder what all the big fuss is about.
It's not as brilliant as all the critics are making out and all the oscar talk etc...
Admitedly some real shite gets rewarded at the oscars over the years but I am wondering....
...if this film had been directed by a man would it have been getting all the attention it has ??
I for one think not
Here endeth the lesson

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I watched Lower City last night. About a Brazilian hooker and two buddies who both fall for here, thereby putting their friendship at risk.
It's mainly a sweaty sex festival.

Predator is class and was a new concept at the time. Never really got the recognition it deserved I don't think - not outside of our generation anyway.
Half war film then (well less than half) then the rest of the film man v alien.
Quality

Red Dawn (2010)

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched 'The Spirit' last night, found myself wondering wtf was I thinking putting this on the queue. If you haven't seen it yet don't bother, there is plenty of hotness to go around (Scarlet Johansson, Eva Mendes, Jamie King)
but that's pretty much it for entertainment value. The action sequences play out like three stooges scenes (sound effects included) and the one liners are piss poor.
-
re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I watched a brit flick called CLUBBED a couple of weeks back.I bought it on dvd after wanting to watch it for a while. Its a okay watch. Some really good bits in it.I would say it well worth a watch.I'd give it 7 out on 10.

Red Dawn and Roadhouse as well
wow some real good moviers in that lot
my fav out of them lot would be
Cobra - silly but loved the scene in the shopping market ' I ain't no psycho, man! I'm a HERO! You're looking at a fuckin' hunter! I'm a hero of the New World! - 'You're a disease and I'm the cure'.
Predator - watched it couple nights ago again
No Retreat No Surrender - i used to watch this over & over i was amazed at van damme
American Ninja - a classic thru & thru
Wraith - i loved this film always remember the quote 'skunt you pussy'
Rocky 4 - what can i say perfect 80's film
Back to the future - think this got voted best film of the 80's?
Roadhouse - this had it all fights & a fit bird in it;D
Blood sport - arguably best martial arts film after enter the dragon?

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
finally watched the deer hunter as never seen it before & was on tv, it was ok i suppose but as so old some times movies dont have the same effect as when it was originally released, the acting was great in it but was so long a film i lost interest
