but how can you be seen as the best fighter in the lightheavyweight division for example if youve never foguht past 168 ?
The best fighter isn't always the champion.
but the theory behind the ring belt is the number one fighter is the champion, i.e the man who beat the man so to speak
i just dont see how you could be the champ of divison you have never fought in
Re: Calzaghe - Pavlik on 18th Oct
kelly is surely gonna need more than 4 and a bit months to put on 8 pounds of solid muscle and forge a gameplan to beat one of the best p4p fighters of an era.
Id suggest a november calzaghe-pavlik showdown before one final hurrah in cardiff against RJJ for joe to say goodbye to the sport.

how long a break did pavlik have between the fights with taylor as i believe one was at 160 and the 2nd at 166 i could be wrong though, if that is the case though it may not be as difficult as you would think, may just be a case of not having to work off as much weight in preperation, very much in the same way calzaghe did in moving up to 175
Re: Calzaghe - Pavlik on 18th Oct
The thread title is a bit misleading. It just means Arum has an October 18th HBO date.. like Frank Warren has one for November 15.
It will guarantee a host of "Calzaghe DUCKING Pavlik" threads when the fight doesn't happen.
:beat:
Re: Calzaghe - Pavlik on 18th Oct
so arent HBO doing for Arum what he accused them of doing for Golden boy, giving out dates with no fight agreed for that date ??

maybe your right
i guess his height would also make it slightly easier for him to add the sufficient amount of muscle in time.
Along with the fact he has hardly had to extend himself at any point this year, october could actually be feasible!!

You can even lose your title even if your fighting for a heavier one.
Roberto Duran lost his WBC Middleweight title because he was 160 when he boxed Sugar Ray Leonard for the WBC SuperMiddleweight title.
So you can lose a title your not even boxing for.
