That's an extract from the writers book "War Baby: The Glamour of Violence"
Cracking book too.
I think JT, like myself, was just commenting on what seemed to be two seperate incidents and the contrasting attitudes of Gerald in each situation.

Again JT, exactly what I thought.
Hate to say the irony of it, but the losing dogs seldom survive these fights especially with their throats ripped out.. Shooting the dog was the humane thing to do despite the inhumane situation Gerald put them in.. It sucks real bad, Im not endorsing dogfighting and I think its wrong, but like Donny had said it is part of certain cultures and I'm not to sure that you guys would find it as appalling as you do now, if it was a product of your environment and culture growing up.
Its exploiting that breed and its loyalty and need to please, couple that with its natural strength and you have a killer...
Stop eating beef then too, cows are led down corales end at the end Whacked over the head with a sledge hammer and slaughtered and dismembered while still alive... Put down that burger then, skip the porterhouse and the filet...

No way dude, you are a pretty accurate guy..... FACT!!!! ;D but I interpret it as 2 separate incidents, because it seems contradictory to fuse them both together;)

Certain Cultures....
The travellers here in Ireland.
They're different, genetically different, culturally....like a different race.
They have their bare knuckle boxing tournaments here, some of them savage.
They fight their dogs at the same time, do a lot of coursing too, things like that.
I don't agree with it or like it, but its the way they are and they would raise hell if anyone tried to take it away from them

Thanks JT.
Yeah I think they're two parts of a different jigsaw.
I really think Gerald was a very troubleed young man.
I've heard first hand from a guy that trained with Lee in Kronk, that Gerald used to envision his father standing across the ring every time he fought.
This was confirmed in, if not this book another book addressing the subject.
Re: Interview with the G-Man
I see what you two (Don, JT) are saying.
Maybe his cousin was showing the extremes in his character or something? He initially seemed upset the dog took a hiding but then that turned into like a ruthless streak.

You can watch that video 18 ways to texas and no one in there right man can argue that Benn wasn't done in that sequence, his hands were all the way down his body was lifeless and he was still getting punched, just like Castillo/Corrales1 Pavlik/Taylor 1. Furthered by the fact that the ref kept pushing McClellan away to the point were Gerald was trying to push him out of the way and pacheco was like WTF is the ref doing... It was a tasteless despicable display of home cooking that I have seen, just like what Marlon B Wright did to Andrade... The stinck from that fight still resonates 14 years later

I thought you were one of the guys in the crowd helping him... :lolhaha:
He didn't need any help ;)
Actually.. at the time Benn was scrambling back up I was telling about 30 shocked Nigel Benn fans - "pay up i told you so"
That was an amazing comeback. As Pacheco says about 50 times ;)

Just impossible to know really.
He was certainly a violent man though, he did need help.

The fight was awesome, scary in its brutality and memorable in so many ways - good & bad.
But to my mind it remains the single most annoying commentary job ever thanks to Pacheco.
Re: Interview with the G-Man
Whether he was a dick in life or not, that is a seriously hard and may I even suggest disturbing video to watch as a fighter.
Re: Interview with the G-Man
I did not think the G man achieved greatness, although I noticed in a p4p thread he was in the top 10, he was good but not great.
By the way he did care for the dog he killed because he lost a fight, that is why he shot him. :)

I'll have to read it again. I had though the story portrayed his dog losing a fight and sustaining horrific injuries.
McClellan then shot the dog as it would never fight again.
His reasoning was that a fight dog, need only live to fight.
I thought he then threw the dog in the backseat of his Merc and (under poetic licence) mourned the death of the dog for the remainder of the novel.
In the writer's mind, wasn't he speaking to the dead dog throughout the Benn fight?
As I said, I'll take your word for it, if thats not the case, I haven't read the book in a few years.
Maybe it can be interpreted as you say... I found the story -
'He brought Deuce down to fight this guy's dog in Chicago one time, and me and Donnie, we went down there with him ...Gerald was drivin' his Mercedes Benz, a green car with caramel-coloured seats and he had this big, beautiful truck behind where he carried his dogs in cages. So Deuce, he winnin' this particular fight and all of a sudden the dog got on him and he started rippin' Deuce's throat out. So I'm kinda, like, lookin' at Gerald and I was seein' the 'spressions on his face, you know, and just as his dog was gettin' beat, Gerald told the dude, "Stop the fight!" And the dude said, "No, man. No, man, you started the fight." And Gerald says, "You stop this motherfuckin' fight! Stop the fight! I quit, here your money."
'Gerald had a nice green leather suit on, he picked his bloody dog up, threw his dog across his shoulder, blood run all down his fuckin' coat. Instead o' puttin' him in the truck, in the cage, he put him in the back seat o' the Benz, mad as hell, rubbing his dog, cryin' up and down the road, tellin', "I ain't never gonna do this shit no more, I don't know why I did this, I keep a mess o' snakes afore I put a dog through this again." You know?
'Yeah, Gerald he had some companionship about this particular dog. He'd raised this dog, and this dog, he'd killed a few. This fucking guy, man, once his dog lost a fight and he was $7,000 down. He turns around, he looks at me, and the other guy says, "Hey, you want to wash your dog off before you put him in your truck?" Gerald just pulls a nine-millimetre out of his back pocket, aims it at the dog's head, busts a cap to the dog's head, and says, "Put that motherfucker in a plastic bag. I don't need 'em if they can't fight no better than that. I don't need no motherfuckin' dog that can't fight." This the kinda guy he was...'
Fighting for life | Sport | The Observer
so maybe looking at it this way gman is disabled because he couldnt win his fight just like he killed his dog cos he couldnt win?
if that makes sense
Re: Interview with the G-Man
Did everyone miss my asking about McClellan litterally loving his dog?
And since G-Man lost (more than once) shouldn't someone have shot him???

Fuk that POS ref, who allowed Benn's constant rabbit punching in the back of the head and headbutts.
I get nauseous when I here people say Benn fought courageous, he was TKO'd in round 1 and cheated his ass off the rest of the fight, with a biased Ref who broke them apart numerous times to let Benn recover.. it was 2 on 1 that night
At least I can take Solace in the fact that Gerald was ahead on the cards when his body gave out in the 10th
I'll co-sign this post.

I dont think Benn tried to cheat,he was trying to survive in there for large parts of the fight.
Benn did not try to use his head at any stage like Holyfield has been doing.
Benn was a boxer not a ref,its not up to him to stop a fight.
Both men fought there hearts out that night and Benn proved that he is a warrior in the truest sense.
