Yeah, I watched a video shot a few days before the event yesterday. They interviewed Benn and he was almost in tears over it all, it was obvious he feels extremely guilty and I'd imagine anyone else would aswell.

I then decided to dig up the fight on youtube and wow what a fight, although I don't think the first round should of been a TKO.. I mean, only 2 solid punches connected to Benn before he fell through the ropes and the rest of the round he did pretty well to avoid the rest of his flurries. But the ref was a bit of a cunt, almost always seeming to break the fight up to allow Benn to catch a swift breather.. never trust the french.
Take no notice of that crap. The ropes were stopping him from falling. Once he landed he got up with plenty of time.

A few years ago, before the fight was put on the net, certain people were seriously claiming Benn was given over 30 seconds to get back in the ring.. and the crowd were helping to carry him back

Thats one of the best fights of all time. Hands down. Its a crying shame that the tragedy overshadows it.

I see little wrong with the first round either, Benn was just about up okay.

Miles you clearly didnt watch it closely enough. Did you miss the time keeper giving Benn smelling salts? Or the journalist slipping horse shoes into Benns gloves?

    task task
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

By defenition a helpless fighter unable to intelligently defend himself taking clean uncontested shots, is the purest grounds for a fight to be stopped

You can watch that video 18 ways to texas and no one in there right man can argue that Benn wasn't done in that sequence, his hands were all the way down his body was lifeless and he was still getting punched, just like Castillo/Corrales1 Pavlik/Taylor 1. Furthered by the fact that the ref kept pushing McClellan away to the point were Gerald was trying to push him out of the way and pacheco was like WTF is the ref doing... It was a tasteless despicable display of home cooking that I have seen, just like what Marlon B Wright did to Andrade... The stinck from that fight still resonates 14 years later

I thought you were one of the guys in the crowd helping him...

    He didn't need any help

Actually.. at the time Benn was scrambling back up I was telling about 30 shocked Nigel Benn fans - "pay up i told you so"

That was an amazing comeback. As Pacheco says about 50 times

    Just impossible to know really.
He was certainly a violent man though, he did need help.

The fight was awesome, scary in its brutality and memorable in so many ways - good & bad.

But to my mind it remains the single most annoying commentary job ever thanks to Pacheco.

Whether he was a dick in life or not, that is a seriously hard and may I even suggest disturbing video to watch as a fighter.

I did not think the G man achieved greatness, although I noticed in a p4p thread he was in the top 10, he was good but not great.

By the way he did care for the dog he killed because he lost a fight, that is why he shot him.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
