This is obvious: 5 lbs for Marquez going up is not a big deal. Mayweather coming down 10 lbs is a very big deal. Marquez has more advantage because Mayweather has to de-hydrate to make weight.
The ball is in Marquez court. If he wants to make the fight happen then he has to make the move. Mayweather may be an a*shole but he's not stupid. I think the best Marquez can hope for is a catch weight of 144 lbs. If Mayweather fails to meet him, then he is really playing hard ball on negeotions and possibly just doesn't want to make the fight happen. If Marquez doesn't go to the table with the offer then he most likely doesn't want to make the fight happen.
I think you see the same negotations tactics in Pacquiao's camp. A catch weight of 145lbs to make a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight.
If Marquez's team were smart they'd use the weight as a wedge to pry more money out of Mayweather. Roach used it against De la Hoya and look what happened to the guy.
Was there anyone talking trash about Oscar De La Hoya fighting Floyd at 154 on Oscar's terms? Everything Oscar wanted he got in that fight, except the win :)
if Floyd can move up to 154 in oscar's place, with Oscars promotion with Oscars gloves at Oscar's weight class and everything in his favor then why can't Marquez do it for Floyd? Now that Floyd is in the drivers seat where he can make such demands people want to hate on him while boxers have been doing that for years and don't get as much flack. Its just blind Floyd hatred
Mayweather oppsessed over the De La Hoya fight. He wanted it badly. Marquez wants to fight Mayweather. But he ain't desperate for it. He ain't going to sell his soul and put himself at a huge disadvantage for money. Marquez don't roll that way.
If your able to read between the lines it's pretty obvious what Marquez is doing. Marquez is pretty much trying to see if Floyd is a biitch or not. Marquez is pretty much asking Floyd "You won't fight unless your the bigger man and have every advantage, huh"? I'm very intrested in Mayweather's response.
I don't know how it would prove is Floyd is a bitch. Unless you think Marquez has a better chance beating Mayweather at 140 where he's quicker slicker and faster :dontknow:

What a load of crap!
Marquez wants money same as Mayweather. There ain't no evil in making money over fighting at a higher weight! Negotiations are part of the game. Marquez ain't in control of making the bout happen, Mayweather is because he can pretty much dictate when where and how much. Besides that if Mayweather is looking at Marqeuz as a tuneup why the hell should he kill himself to make weight?

Mayweather can't dictate shit. If Marquez doesn't feel he'd be competitive at 140 or higher, the fight won't happen. Kudos to him for knowing boxing's limits and not turning this into a circus. And don't forget, Floyd's been away from boxing for awhile. So he's not in a position to be making outlandish demands.

I totally agree with you...
If PBF moved up to 154 to fight Hoya, Hatton moved up to 147 to fight PBF, PAC moved up to 147 to fight Hoya then JMM at least should offer to move up to 144 (catchweight) to fight PBF... JMM called out PBF, he should do something to legitimize his challenge since Floyd won't go down to 135 or 140 for this tune-up fight with JMM...

Re: So much for Mayweather-Marquez
I hope JMM walking away from a big money PBF fight is not following the bad move committed by Team JMM before... walking away from a big money PAC rematch fight and accepted a $30k purse to fight in Indonesia only to lose to Chris John...
Team JMM needs to evaluate the situation carefully...

Just shows money doesn't run Marquez like it does other fighters. Marquez was promised 1.5 million for the Pacquaio rematch. When they tried to come at him with $750,000 Marquez wasn't going to biitch up and give in. He walked away. Yeah what happened afterwards was unfortunate. But no fighter can predict they will be robbed in a fight

Team JMM should evaluate what weigh more, losing to PBF (and earn big money) or losing to Erik Morales/Edwin Valero (earning moderate money)...

Marquez is going to do what the fukk he wants to do. Marquez is not one of those fighters who will take a fight he knows he can't win just cuz he's getting "big money".

Then why JMM made the mistake of calling out PBF?? Only very few will give JMM a tiny chance against PBF...

Re: So much for Mayweather-Marquez
VD is right, there is no point in Marquez fighting at 147. It's just not feasible and Marquez would be better off walking away. It's a nice pay day, but Marquez can make decent paydays elsewhere, he is a top draw fighter these days.
I would rather Marquez test the waters at 140 against a decent name and then have a final fight against Pac. Then his career is pretty much done. No need to fight Mayweather.
Hopefully Hatton beats up Pac and then Pac has nowhere to go but to Marquez again.

Sure Mayweather has been away from the sport, but how come the biggest news in boxing is if he is coming back? Mayweather is the biggest fish in the pond he can dictate whatever he wants because he will be the one that makes Marquez more money than anyone else, not vice virsa.
I can totally understand Marquez not selling out to fight a fighter he can't beat, but to complain about the weight is bullshit. Once again, Mayweather isn't a physical fighter, nor is he a huge puncher.

In short...........
Hatton had no advantage at all in the fight. Everything was in Floyds favour. Cortez....watch the Hatton Castillo fight, they clinch, fight on the inside and he allows Hatton to do what he does.
In the Floyd fight, as soon as Hatton gets near "NOOOO RICKY LET GO"
and "DONT HIT HIM WHEN HE DUCKS LIKE THAT"
That's cuz all Hatton cared about was the money. He sold his soul to fight Mayweather. Anything Mayweather wanted he got. All Hatton cared about was the money
Yeah he chased the cash and it went againsed him. He was beat before the fight started anyway, Floyd got into his head and fukked it. Hatton looked so fired up at the weigh in but the next day when that bell rang that fire was doused and smouldering.

Why not compromise then like DLH? If Mayweather really wants the fight then he can go to 140 and Marquez can move up to 140. Fairs is fair. After all Mayweather isn't a physical fighter and it has been argued that he is not a natural WW. Marquez was at 130 a year ago and now he's expected to forfeit all weight competitiveness to fight Mayweather?
Better to walk away and blame it on weight disagreements because that is exactly what it is!

What if Pacman wins though and moves up to Welterwieght to face Floyd, Cotto, etc? Then Marquez will be forced up to 147 anyways.
