Hatton didn't sell his soul to fight Mayweather, and the fight was closer to Hatton's natural weight class than Mayweather's natural weight class, people act like Mayweaher is a natural welterweight, then why does he come in like 2 pounds over the limit for a fight? The fact is Mayweather weight less than Hatton coming into the ring when they fought.
Mayweather wasn't complaining when he moved up to 154 to fight Oscar or when he faced Baldomir who was 13 pounds heavier than him in the ring. He didn't force Judah to come back down to 140 to fight him. His whole career he has been moving up to face new challenges.
Once again how does Mayweather size except his height give him any advantage over Marquez given his style, and given how they would match up. It would be a fight foughten on the outside where Marquez staying small might actually help him.
Your missing the point. I'm not saying Mayweather had a bigger size advantage. Not that it matters cuz Mayweather spears Hatton into the ring post at any weight. The point is Hatton gave Mayweather everything he wanted cuz he just wanted the money. If Floyd would of wanted Roger Mayweather as the referee I'm sure Hatton would say no. But let Floyd throw in an extra half mill and Roger is trying on his zebra shirt.
So Marquez not selling out to fight Mayweather or is he afraid to face Mayweather and using excuses? What I am saying is if Marquez doesn't want to fight Mayweather because its an obvious mismatch thats valid to me, but to use size and shit when Mayweather fights the way he does IMO is weak. Mayweather is getting heat for fighting smaller guys, but he also fought bigger guys like Corrales, Ndou, Castillo, Gatti, ODLH, Baldomir, even Zab Judah, besides Judah a lot of these guys had significant weight advantages usually over 8 pounds difference.
Marquez shouldn't go above 140 It would be reckless and he would lose. He gives up everything by doing that at his age. If Floyd wants the fight then work down to 140, or else don't take the fight.
I disagree with the arguments that Mayweather is smaller than Hatton. He might have been so several years ago, but not now and not for a good while. If that was the case then why not take the Hatton fight at 140? Floyd has grown into the weight and fought there for about 4 years. Hatton has popped up there fleetingly and decided the best way to train for the weight was to eat some sausages. I have no doubts that Floyd is the bigger man there.
Mayweather should bugger off and make a fight with Cotto or Mosley, stop with cherry picking and fighting smaller men. It bores me TBH and his style is hardly endearing these days anyway.
Not for the same reason you think. I am saying Oscar wanted Hopkins so he moved up to middleweight to fight him as did Trinidad. Duran moved up to face Leonard who along with Hearns moved up to face Hagler.
Having the weight at 147 is hardly giving Mayweather all the advantages, I guarantee in Las Vegas there would be way more mexican supporters than Mayweather ones. When was the last time Mayweather had the crowd behind him? That is a huge advantage and it always goes the other way. Mayweather moved up in weight to secure his legacy. Retired or not Mayweather is still considered by most the best fighter in the world, he's the biggest draw should Oscar retire. My question is what does Marquez have to lose fighting a fight he is expected to lose? Its like Pacquiao facing Oscar De La Hoya. Mayweather is the one putting everything on the line. He's coming out of over a year and half of inactivity, he hasn't looked super great the last time he took a hig break (against Augustus). Mayweather is the one the cameras are following, he's the one that is selling this fight to almost every non-mexican and/or non-avid fan.
Also Hatton didn't fight Mayweather because he wanted a payday, with his style, he truly believed he could beat Mayweather, you could see it in his eyes and how he trained, and how he fought. He didn't fight like a beaten man that night, but a guy who walked through a lot of hard shots and kept coming with everything he had. That was the most focused he had been since Tszyu, but he was fighting Floyd who is so good anywhere in the ring.
You guys can lie all you want about why Marquez is backing out of this, but its because he doesn't want to look very bad. His style as shown by Morales-Raheem just isn't suited to face a slick, speedy boxer like Mayweather.
Now that PBF seems interested in having JMM as a tune-up fight then JMM should at least make some compromise in the catchweight in which they will meet since JMM was originally the one calling out PBF...
I think 143/144 lbs. is the most logical catchweight...
.
Shame on Mayweather's camp for trying to make it happen at 147. It's their way of avoiding Cotto again. I guess something's never change.
Marquez shouldn't fight at 147 he would get killed, Mayweather lik always cryin wanting his advantages.
Erik Morales should take tune up fights lik Barrera or more.
The issue is Marquez wants the advantage of Mayweather having to come down in weight. Mayweather doesn't want to give Marquez that advantage. Now who is calling out who? And who is in the drivers seat.
This is obvious: 5 lbs for Marquez going up is not a big deal. Mayweather coming down 10 lbs is a very big deal. Marquez has more advantage because Mayweather has to de-hydrate to make weight.
The ball is in Marquez court. If he wants to make the fight happen then he has to make the move. Mayweather may be an a*shole but he's not stupid. I think the best Marquez can hope for is a catch weight of 144 lbs. If Mayweather fails to meet him, then he is really playing hard ball on negeotions and possibly just doesn't want to make the fight happen. If Marquez doesn't go to the table with the offer then he most likely doesn't want to make the fight happen.
I think you see the same negotations tactics in Pacquiao's camp. A catch weight of 145lbs to make a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight.
If Marquez's team were smart they'd use the weight as a wedge to pry more money out of Mayweather. Roach used it against De la Hoya and look what happened to the guy.
Was there anyone talking trash about Oscar De La Hoya fighting Floyd at 154 on Oscar's terms? Everything Oscar wanted he got in that fight, except the win![]()
if Floyd can move up to 154 in oscar's place, with Oscars promotion with Oscars gloves at Oscar's weight class and everything in his favor then why can't Marquez do it for Floyd? Now that Floyd is in the drivers seat where he can make such demands people want to hate on him while boxers have been doing that for years and don't get as much flack. Its just blind Floyd hatred
Mayweather oppsessed over the De La Hoya fight. He wanted it badly. Marquez wants to fight Mayweather. But he ain't desperate for it. He ain't going to sell his soul and put himself at a huge disadvantage for money. Marquez don't roll that way.
If your able to read between the lines it's pretty obvious what Marquez is doing. Marquez is pretty much trying to see if Floyd is a biitch or not. Marquez is pretty much asking Floyd "You won't fight unless your the bigger man and have every advantage, huh"? I'm very intrested in Mayweather's response.
