Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
Firstly,Panama Lewis comes off here, and in the past resembling a cheap snake oil saleman in need of a Greyhound bus backing over him...two times. He holds zero regard for the fighters he surrounds himself with, the integrity of the sport...it still has some, and concerns himself more with the cheap cracker-jack Jewelry and self pity he wallows in.I have no doubt that he cares more about seeing himself on camera and hearing his own voice basking in others glory than he does hold genuine concern for any past, present,or future boxer.....He does not deserve to be anywhere near a ring and definitely does not deserve to be in the company of contenders, journeymen, and champions. He neglected and dismissed his professional responsibility to all of them.....and he's an asshole.
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
Such a heartbreaking story all around. So many lives affected. It is clear to me at least that Resto carried the weight of what happened all those years. He did his time behind bars, but more so in his heart and mind. He seems to be a good man with a good heart. I cant say the same for Panama Lewis. He used Resto and led him down a path to disaster. Resto trusted Panama so much that even when he knew he was wrong, he let him make decisions for him. I dont think that Panama ever has come to terms with what he did or if he every even thinks about what he did and the damage it caused. Resto deserves foregivness and to be free of whatver he did in the past. As for Panama, he will have his day.
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
I'm just glad they had sub-titles.
I love the ending edit that Panama still "trains fighters outide the ring".
What the hell does that mean? Backyard brawling? He'd fit right in...

And strange as it may seem, he was always considerd a superb trainer. He didn't have to resort to the crap he did. Lewis was always sought out by boxers who needed adjustments-Tyson, Iggy (I think) others. Too bad he was/is such a scumsucker.
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
still to this day despite various opportunitys cannot stomach myself to watch the fight.
Still remember a year or so back when a guy who claimed to know panama lewis personally posted a youtube vid trying to disguise lewis`s innocence.
Rest assured i sent him many many messages to give to that scumbag hoping and preying to god he would suffer the same punishment billy suffered that night!
Out of the whole saga the bit that still does me every time is when billy got back to his corner at the end of the 3rd and told his trainer something along the lines of "it feels like im being punched with a brick"
RIP
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
Theres no doubt in my mind that Collins would have gone on to be a very good, if not great fighter, probably a world champ.
If he can take bombs from a loaded glove for 10 rounds, that kid had balls the size of churchbells. He was getting beat in the face with essentially a bag of plaster, and he didn't quit. RIP Collins, and I hope Lewis and Resto burn in hell for that shit. Didn't even live to 23, what a tragedy.

He did take a career but look at his life afterward. He mine as well have been dead. I do believe in second chances and fuck let Resto have another shot by doing what he loves at least let him train fighter's in a gym like Panama is allowed to do.What I was getting so pissed at was how Panama kept calling Resto son. If I wear Resto I would have simply beat the piss out of Panama and said no father of mine would have let his son sleep in a fucking ditch. Sell one of those dozens of gold chains and ring's and give me the fucking money you piece of shit. Another thing that would piss me off was when Panama kept saying "look at me". I was saying the whole time "well take your fucking glasses off"!! you fucking punk and then finally Resto mumbled it take of your glasses. It does play on the mind a little bit but Resto did his time and should be forgiven. And for fuck sake let this case be open again for Collins' family and give these people some fucking money.
Couldn't have said it any better myself.
Resto has been a broken man every since that night and went to prison for it and lost everything.
He deserves a second chance.
Panama Lewis on the other hand is a rich, lying, scum bag with no remorse for the incident and no care for Resto what so ever.
It was sad seeing Resto try and confront Lewis, becus it was clear that Resto is a broken man and could only mumble "take off your glasses" and "fuck you".
Luis Resto should get some of the royalties from this film.
You catch the part where the documenter was sayin he had to pay Panama Lewis every time he interviewed his no good ass?
Fuckin scum of the earth.
"I did not put no pill in no bottle."

Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
Paname comes from the Don King school: don't get caught and anything goes on in order to obtain what you want no matter what it does imply. I hope somebody will make him eat his 24karats multi thousand of dollars grill and stick every golden rings he owes down below where the sun never shines.

I fought in Florida not too long ago and he was at the weigh ins sitting a chair away from me in his sunglasses and chains. I thought it was interesting that he was allowed to attend. I am disgusted by the guy as well and surprised to see him in a room full of fighters.
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
Just watched and don't really have much to add, everyone has pretty much nailed it. The only thing I can add is, I was giving Margarito the benefit of the doubt as I was a huge fan of his and wanted to believe him, but after seeing Collins face and what Cotto looked like. I am sorry but the similarities are just scary.
Cotto taking his first loss to Margarito which I still feel Cotto isn't the same fighter since that fight. Resto in the beginning of the doc saying how he had nothing to do with it even in the shitty state he was living it finally had to be caught in the lie by the director. I'm just thinking Margarito is pulling that same shit. The countless amounts of lives that have been ruined by this horrific act, its disgusting and for Panama to be allowed to be anywhere near a fight is despicable and someone should do something about it.
Though I feel Resto is truly sorry about what happened and feel Lewis took advantage of him to the fullest, it is hard to forgive a guy like that and totally understandable if nobody did.
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
Lewis is a worthless cunt who deserves the worst kind of fate.
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
I watched it last night and I don't feel sorry for Resto. People make mistakes, but what he did is unforgiveable. he knowingly beat a guy for 30 minutes with concrete and stated "I wanted to destroy him"
Panama Lewis makes me sick
Re: Assault In The Ring on HBO last night
Sure people make mistakes but having someone slap plaster on your hands before a fight you make a choice right then and there. Luis was about 28 years old, he was man enough to make a decision right as that plaster got put on his wraps and if not then when Panama took the gloves to the bathroom. There is NO WAY you have all that going on and not feel the effects when you're punching another person, hell he SAW the effects of it. I think Luis has low self esteem which is why Panama was able to bully him, but Luis was also tempted by the glory he could have acheived if he wasn't caught.
Panama Lewis is the lowest scum on Earth, he keeps denying what happened, holding out hope so he can get back in the corner and make more money.
Let's take a look at the victims here and there are PLENTY
#1 Billy Collins Jr. - he was destroyed by that fight litterally and figuratively
#2 The Collins Family - they lost a son, a husband, a father and a livelihood
#3 Luis Resto - He lost his career, his freedom, and his name all because of a BET. Yes he was guilty of assault, he knew what was going on and should have stopped it, but he is a shell of a man because of what he did.
#4 The Resto family - they have an infamous name, they have lost Luis as a son, a husband, and father. And they have had to deal with his shame as well.
...the ONLY person to come out on top was PANAMA LEWIS, he's not in fighter's corners but he still trains, he still advises, he still makes plenty of money to buy all that bling he has. Panama should have been thrown UNDER the jail and if you see him walking in your gym BAR THE GOD DAMN DOOR before he sets foot in it!!! If I ever saw him at my gym, I would never go back.
