Re: Hopkins/RJJ is on - WTF?
Hopkins has other options, but honestly, who else would anyone want to see Roy fight? Plus for Hopkins, those other guys don't have the mainstream name recognition like Roy. If Roy loses, he can go out at least knowing he lost to a Hall of Famer; if he wins (which I don't think he will), he's back in the title-hunting business. And if it's Hopkins' last fight, he gets to settle the score from the one loss that probably still burns him. I wouldn't go PPV for it, but I understand the matchup.

I just ain't going to criticise them when they have given so much for the sport.
You trying to tell me Hopkins gets more money fighting Adamek than Jones ? I don't think so.
Hopkins actually wanted Green before Jones, but Green seemed to think he deserved 50-50 split.
Hopkins plans on going to heavyweight after his fight with Jones, It will be against the winner of Haye - Ruiz.
Hopkins is a money fighter ? Whether you like it or not, money concerns every fighter and if i'm correct Hopkins donated his purse from his last fight to charity. Yeah he's all about the money.
He donated it to charity?
He made $200,000 against Ornelas. He makes MORE just doing promotional work for Golden Boy ($250,000 per gig).
All fighters chief concern is how much money they make. Hopkins is the daddy of chasing his most lucrative option. That's why he's fighting shot-to-bits Roy instead of Chad "worth two bob" Dawson.
Legacy over money is something that only occupies fans minds ;)
Theres the link. Hopkins donates to three different charities.

In addition to fighting for his fans, Hopkins will be fighting for charity as he has committed to donating one dollar from each ticket sold to three select charities. Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Philadelphia & Susquehanna Valley, to which Hopkins will donate in memory of Shaun Negler, one of his biggest fans, whose last wish was to attend Hopkins' fight against Joe Calzaghe before succumbing to brain cancer in late 2008 at the age of 18, will be one beneficiary. The second recipient of the fight's proceeds will be The Hero Thrill Show, an annual day of events designed to raise money for the education of relatives of deceased police and fire personnel killed in the line of duty while protecting Philadelphia. Finally, one dollar will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. in memory of Hopkins' deceased mother Shirley who suffered from breast cancer and in recognition of all those who are currently battling the disease.
They sold 6,000 tickets.
So it's gone from a $200,000 purse to $6,000 from the gate. ;D

Hopkins is 45 and Mayweather is 32.
While Mayweather retired for 2 years to let all the top welterweights beat each other, Hopkins was fighting the likes of Wright, Calzaghe and Pavlik.
Ever since Mayweather hit 140, he has cherry picked his opponents.
I can agree that Hopkins can be criticised for cherry picking now but give the guy a break, He's 45 and has fought alot of tough competition recently including the likes of Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe and Pavlik. That doesn't look like the resume of a fighter who has cherry picked over the years.

To be fair, it's still $6,000. :)

Yes a very nice gesture.
He certainly didn't step in the ring for charity though ;)
Re: Hopkins/RJJ is on - WTF?
This is boxing just laughing at how dumb they think fans can be. I can almost see them putting this rhino dung on ppv (as chavez jr. shakes his head in amazment) Shame on anyone paying to see a guy in hopkins who out of his last seven has lost three, is ducking just about everyone, and let's face it who is pretty damn boring to watch. Him being ranked so high is just plain sad. Stop giving this dude credit for what he's done and rate him for what he's doing. How he can look at a camera with a straight face and say he's fighting jones is just plain sad. Mid-as-well have a go round with james toney while you're at it. And jones...just ask green why jones in another "big" (laughable) fight is just plain retarded. I think he just like the way the arena's look from his back or something. Ok ok before b hop and jones fans bash me. Let me say i don't dislike either...but this fight is insulting and just plain ass....If they break 200 buys i'll be dissappointed by fans of this sport.

Yeah Hopkins only DOMINATED Kelly Pavlik a year ago, and Jones is only the greatest fighter of all time. No chance they'll break 200 buys

Though let's be honest, each of those fighters went up in weight to fight him. And Pavlik and Wright went up 2 weight classes to fight him! Neither of those guys had any business north of 160. I do give him credit for fighting Calzaghe though.
