It's not hard to look like a good puncher when you're Ko'ing a guy with with even worse skill.
Check out Little Nog, Bronze Medalist in the Pan American Games, he has decent hands. Check out his last KO. ;)
I'm sure it's very good but is he Ko'ing a boxer or is he Ko'ing a wrestler with his chin stuck out in the air? there is a big difference.

Would an aging UFC fighter on the brink of retirement go to boxing. I doubt it.
The UFC has grown a lot over the years and I'm interested to see where it will go from here. I don't think ageing boxers and bums that have filmed themselves punching other bums on youtube is the answer.
Plain and simple exposure I'd say is the goal of White. If an ageing boxer or youtube hit streetfighter brings more audience figures then it makes Dana White money. Imagine how many people are gonna tune in to see how James Toney fairs in UFC. I can't stand the "Two guys grappling on the floor" thing at all. But saying that, I will certainly tune in to find out how Toney gets on, and Mayorga too....... He trying to win boxing fans for sure, and he's gonna do it. Still won't be as good a sport as boxing but might open a few eyes with regards to the supposed quality and entertainment value of UFC if Toney gets slammed.....
Absolutely agree 100%, but what i'm saying is if white isn't careful he's going to wind up looking like part retirement home for colourful boxers and part freak show for anyone with a 'hard' reputation.

Tell floyd mayweather that randy couture is a better allround athlete. floyd wouldnt give 2 shits he`d merely compare both mens bank balances and that would be the end of the story. UFC fighters arent idiots, they all know they could potentially make millions in the sport of boxing but the difference being our sport is full to the brim with world quality operators wanting those million dollar paydays while UFC is an expanding franchise full of young untapped talent that simply played the numbers game and realised theyd be better keeping to a safe little payday fighting guys with 21-4 rather than compete in a sport with hundreds of world class athletes.
Randy Couture fights guys with records of 18-4, in boxing that record wouldnt even get you on the card as a filler fight let alone a main eventer!!
Ridiculous my friend ;)
UFC fighters start off with a base fighting style, wrestling, BJJ, Kickboxing, Sambo, Muay Thai etc, very few start off with a boxing background then make the transition to MMA. Simply because they didnt want to do boxing at the very start of their fighting careers.
These guys want to be MMA artists because thats what they WANT to be, regardless of the money involved, they do it for the love of the sport. ;)
you seriously hand on heart believe that
You honestly think that none of the current UFC world champions have considered going into boxing and making millions just because they love MMA??
bollocks mate, they dont make the transition because they know the level of talent is just far too dense in boxing.
I`ll reiterate my point again, would mayweather, pacquiao, mosley heck even the likes of froch, kessler, hatton entertain the idea of main eventing against someone who has a 20% defeat record??
LMAO, you make me laugh with your ignorance ;D
With the argument ya trying to make, lets say this then, why doesnt Usain Bolt become a footballer, he could earn way more money as a pro footballer, reason he doesnt is because his heart is in Athletics. Same with MMA, they hearts are in MMA not boxing.

usain bolt is a millionaire times and times over thats why
You think if he was only worth a few bob and man utd came in with a 150k a week contract he`d still run just for the love of it:o:o

Re: James Toney signs multi fight deal with the UFC
Apples and oranges.
1 thing I know for sure is that you're not going to become HW champion just by taking up boxing for a few months have 3 fights and then become HW champ. See Brock Lesnar as an example in MMA. You're not going to beat the Klit brothers or Haye with a few months of training.
Then the pay disparity is huge. Joe Louis was making 600k fighting Billy Conn in the 1940s which is more than what 99% of the stars in the UFC are making right now today.
And notice MMA can attract the washed up boxers like Mercer, Toney, Mayorga, no A-list or B-list boxer is going to fight for a few grand when they can make millions. Just take a look at Amir Khan (b-list boxer) who most people don't know in America and he's going to get a guarantee 1 million fighting Malinaggi on HBO.
My 2 cents.

my point exactly
some of the guys over here fighting on friday fight night are earning more than the biggest UFC matchup you could possibly imagine. Every single UFC division is made up of 1-2 good fighters with records of 24-3 and then a whole load of 14-12 fighters. In boxing that just doesnt happen because the level of competition is so muh more denser.
You could feasibly walk into UFC and within 1year with the right promoting could be world champion. Again doesnt happen in boxing even if you win olympic gold it`ll be at least 4years before your even fighting for a world title.
Anyone that punches someone who isnt trained to take a punch can look world class whether its UFC or ice hockey. Doesnt mean they have the physical capabilitys of a boxer
if ricky hatton is allowed to take off his gloves and physically throw floyd mayweather around a ring yes it will enhance his chances of beating a boxer. But it doesnt make him the superior athlete it just means he has been trained to perform more combatic actions!!

Of course they dont have the striking abilities of boxers, but they can punch, they can kick, they wrestle, they can grapple, they can submit. They can basically kick ass in every area possible.
Go and Youtube Cain Valesquez's recent KO of Nogueria at UFC 110 and tell me that 3 punch combination wasnt beautifully tight, crisp and short. And this is from a guy who excels in wrestling and smashing your face in once he gets you to the ground. It was very impressive indeed.

That is a yes and no reply mate.....Yes they do it for the love of the sport just like Boxers box for the love of the sport....MMA fighters start off young learning as you said wrestling, BJJ, Muai Thai etc....Usually as a hobby when a kid or teen...Same for most boxers they take it up as a kid...fighting amateurs....Then eventually if successful or any good as a amateur they try their hands at the pros...
They seek out their choices for love of the sport be it boxing or MMA but NEVER and I mean NEVER think that any of these guys go into the big time or seek the big time just for love of the sport...They want the money, the fame etc....they just seek it in a sport they love.............
Many MMA fighters have to hold full time jobs to make ends meet and once the realization of not making it to the championship level (That does not mean one shot at a title) or elite level they give up competing except on an occasional basis because it is too hare to hold a job and train correctly...
Many of the fighters go for broke..EG Forrest Griffin gave up a career as a cop to try his hand at mma full time...Through self admission knowing he was risking it all because his chances were slim at making enough money to live off of in MMA..............
NO fighter fights o0n a full time basis on just love of the game
MMA fighters make most of their living off of sponsors even the highest ones....There are no 5 million dollar fights in MMA

you never fully know whats going to happen till they get in the ring and do it.
I'm going to reserve judgement....
I know that Toney is working out in the same Gym as Audley Harrison in CA and very reliable sources say Toney is down to 200 lbs and is serious about this all.......
And you are right the idea of Toney doing well in MMA and Mosley beating Mayweather is Rediculous...........But Mosley beating Mayweather is far from Ridiculous

I could look like a world champ Koing someone who's chin is in the air. what don't you understand? I saw one guy Ko a drunk guy outside the pub the other night. He looked great doing it, let's put him in the ring.

Not in my world. An old man who's been out the ring for 18 months and only had one decent fight in 6 years ain't going to KO the pound for pound best fighter on the planet.

One decent fight in 6 years?...Well lets put them side by side shall we...
PBF since 2003 he has faced...N'Dou, Corley, Bruseles, Gatti, Mitchell, Judah, Baldom ir, DLH, Hatton and JMM
N'Dou and Bruseles are B fighters even in their primes, Corley and Mitchell waaay past it when PBF fought them, JMM much much smaller then PBF and past his best days as we all seen in the Diaz fight...Gatti too easy to hit and the DLH fight was close......Judah was on a meltdown losing to Baldomir before they fought and Hatton again smaller and all offense...The DLH fight was close and in no way did Floyd dominate..
Mosley since 2003 has faced...DLH when DLH was DLH, Winky Wright 2X when Wright was the most avoided fighter from 147-168, Estrada and Cruz though not world class certainly at the time top prospects, 2 beatdown of Vargas who was on a 4 fight win streak and one of the 154lb best at the time pretty much nailing Vargas career shut, Collazo who is tough for anyone, Gave Cotto a good run when Cotto was considered one of the sports best and undefeated, Mayorga who was past his best and had been away from the 147 lb division a while and the destruction of the man many people thought to have an Iron chin in Margarito
So to say Mosley has only had 1 decent or meaningful fight in 6 years is silly...in fact though Mosley may have lost a few in the last 6yrs he has fought better opp and men bigger then him
