Big Loss for boxing.
and when he attacked her before?
It seems he had a big drinking problem and became violent when drunk. Remember he was denied a visa to the US because of a drunk driving charge and it was also reported he was drinking when he put her in the hospital with broken ribs. My guess is he was remorseful every time it happened and she kept forgiving him. Maybe this time she wasn't around to forgive his drinking and beating tirade so he off himself. 'Just a guess'
Another two deaths and HBO will have a sequel.

Alcohol - the route of all evil
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
This is terrible. :(
It's easy to judge the guy, but we don't know what problems he had in his head (especially considering the motorcycle accident in 2001.) Brain damage is very, very serious and there is a strong possibility that boxing amplified the effects of his injuries in recent times, causing an imbalance of sorts, instability...
I'm not excusing the murder of his wife, she didn't deserve that of course, but just saying we shouldn't be so hell bent on verbally hammering the guy when we know nothing of him but what we read in the news and see in the ring. Only he knew himself what his train of thought was, and only those closest to him can state whether or not he was a changed man or the Edwin Valero they always knew.
This might be controversial, but rest in peace to both Edwin (conditional) and his wife, 2 lives needlessly lost.
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
Who gives a fuck if he was talented? he killed a mother, a sister a 20 year old woman and he should have been killed for it so it's good he's dead now.

Seriously, I feel the same way...
Fuck him. I enjoyed watching him fight and he was superbly powerful and a solid boxer but he showed that he's nothing more than a troubled bully.
Sad for his family but everyone quit sucking his dick cuz he was a good fighter. Imagine that his wife was your sister or daughter and see if you feel the same way.
Him offing himslef was for the best because he was only going to get worse in the head after undergoing a trial and subsiquent sentencing
Peace out Valero... Boo fuckin hoo
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
Hang on. Am I missing something here ? What's with all the RIP messages ? The FUCKA killed his wife. He should ROT IN HELL !!! The thing is, now he's probably go down as a great fighter whose career was cut short, in sort of the same way that Salvador Sanchez is. Listen - He was lucky that he never fought anyone of merit. Let's not even talk about Floyd or Manny. I think a Devon Alexander, Tim Bradley, Miguel Cotto, Zab Judah would wipe the floor with him.
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
Should read:
"Valero murders next opponent, then chokes under pressure."
Geez, and I thought this was going to be the big Pacquiao fight in a year. Just too, too bad. All of a sudden teh LW division doesn't look all that stacked, after all.
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
I'm still in shock from the fact he killed his wife!
That's two very talented boxers (that I know of) that have taken their lives withing the last 6 months or so. A real shame.
He had some major problems though, just 6 weeks after his last fight he was in a substance abuse clinic. I don't think you can excuse any of it, the fact is the guy has probably always been fucked up and just got worse as he got older, not helped by all the drink and drugs he was going through.
From what I've rea, he'd beat his wife up on more than one occasion, just a few days ago she "fell down some stairs". Sad for boxing.
I wonder how he passed all of the drug tests? The only person he could have fought would have been Pac, there is no chance he would have got through Floyd's drug testing regime!

Tragic waste, loved him as a fighter.
I wonder what issues he had, a lot of inner demons by the sounds of it.
He had a tattoo of Hugo Chavez on his chest.. *cues Nas- It Ain't Hard to Tell*
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
To be honest I'd like to piss on this guys grave.

Neither Floyd or Pacquiao are going to go below 140lbs now. Floyd won't go below 147. Why are people talking like those fights EVER had a chance of being made... Cuz he beat Demarco at 135lbs? He had decnt boxing skills and great power but how anyone thinks he'd be a threat to any elite fighters 12 lbs north is crazy to me.
He'd have done damage at 135 but that's about it. Any of the elite 140lbers would have lit him up like a christmas tree. Bradley and Alexander would have made him look absolutly stupid.
He killed his wife.
Good riddance.
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
Edwin Valero's two children, who are 8 and 5 years old, are staying with their grandmother. They have now lost two parents within 48 hours, their father murdering their mother, and then taking his own life. That's something they'll have to try to understand and live with for the rest of their livesThose two children have entire lives to live. I send my heart felt sympathies to the children and families of Jennifer Carolina Viera and Edwin Valero. None of this is going to be easy for anybody who knew the couple. I can't even imagine being in the position they're in now. May the Lord comfort their souls.
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
Im just shocked/broken I loved him as a fighter and saw great things coming from him. :(
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
This whole thing is just tragic. His kids are going to have to live with this for the rest of their lives and have to try and understand at some point what happened...just horrible
Re: Valero found hanged in his cell
Wow shocking i went on a trip today so i haven't seen the news, because i've just got back. Im literally speechless unbelievable.
