Miles is a fool, he talks about being this good guy, pleasant shit but he backs Maidana up on this shit. Maidana clearly acted like a prick. I like him before this fight now I want somebody to knock his bitch ass out. He threw that fxcking elbow intentionally and thats why he didnt say shit after Cortez deducted a point.

haha that is true, Miles is all against standing up against foul play and enforcing strict professional, honest conduct with integrity except when it comes to people he doesn't like.
Trying to elbow Amir in the face right in front of the referee is fine. Students smashing up government propery over fees protests is an acceptable expression of anger, and Palestians hurling stones at Israeli cars, or missles as Israeli towns is again no less than they deserve.
Amir winning a fight against a cut Barrera was a moral outrage however and an example of all that is bad in boxing and the world..

Bilbo was clearly watching the HBO broadcast and forgot that the commentary is essentially propaganda for the house fighter. 10-8 rounds are subjective, but Maidana was clearly dominating down the stretch. You could see most of Khan's flurries missing a mile off. He was running on fumes and there was little accuracy on them towards the end.
The 10-8 round looked like this:
Maidana Khan
50/80 8/14
Especially when you consider Maidana's punches hurt way worse than Khan's. I didn't even think twice it could score any differently. At almost any point in that round Cortez could have given him a standing 8 count. He beat him Pillar to post.
I also want to add that the second knockdown was bullshit on Maidana. He never touched the canvas, and the ropes never held him up. And third, no punch landed.

I agreed with round 10 being 10-8. No question. Rounds 11 and 12 though, not even convinced Maidana won them at all let alone 10-8.
There was no second knockdown, it was ruled a slip, your being like Miles and complaining about something in your own head ;D

Ah, the standing 8 count again. There is no standing 8 count in pro boxing.
It was ruled a slip. Not a knockdown.
Other than that - great post!

Yeah it was ruled a slip by everyone except you and Miles. Haha.
I'm with Bilbs here. Gave Khan 11 and think i gave him a share of 12. Maidana had a great start to round 11, but landed little. Last 90 seconds Khan landed about 3 or 4 flush and accurate combinations. Maidana landed little.
Same with the 12th really, except Maidana looked more desperate, and Khan got on his bike a bit more. Still wasn't really a clear winner to the round though, as Khan again landed a few very good combinations.
I think people are scoring for momentum, rather than what actually happened, if that makes sense.

Yeah absolutely. I mentioned that in the 'how did you score it?' thread. 11 and 12 were close rounds. I gave 11 even and 12 just to Maidana but could easily have scored both for Khan. (can't quite remember why I lent to him in 12th now). Lots of people don't score rounds in isolation as they should be scored. I'd be interested to see punch stats for rounds 11 and 12.

Re: well KHAN sure knows how to RUN... Run Khan Run....that's what I learned tonight.
i'm no big fan of khan infact i dont care much for him i think he's full of himself like he believes hes great....and those from the uk involved within the boxing scene know the stories about his arrogants away from the cameras.............BUT!! if you call him a runner the mayweather is the king of runners......khan was involved in a super little fight last night one that none of us thought he could ever star in......it was a good nights viewings one that boxing needed....one young hopefull of steping upto stardom the other a rough rugged limited fighter trying to take advantage of a possible one time only crack at the big time....fantastic considering it wasn't ment to be any good
Re: well KHAN sure knows how to RUN... Run Khan Run....that's what I learned tonight.
Of course Khan "ran"....cept' I'd rather call it good evasive footwork. Khan is much faster than Maidana and he and Freddie knew that coming in and exploited it. Freddie also knew that Khan couldn't stand toe to with Maidana in an in fight and avoided that by keeping the offensive at mid-range and the rest at out-range. In short, Khan had no choice but to keep Maidana at the end of his jab. Everybody knew that comin' in though; if Khan brawled, he would've been destroyed and we saw a silhouette of that in R10.
Khan and Maidana showed a lot of real perseverance against heavy damage in this fight, especially Khan considering his lackluster chin.

Exactly :appl:
Absolute bullshit, the both of you. :vd:
If you look at the replay you see that the elbow was nowhere near Khan's face. In fact all we really saw was an elbow making an impact on Cortez. It should have been a warning and then if he had done it again then you take a point away. Is that so bad? If someone makes a mistake it is usual to give them a chance. Maidana made a mistake in this instance but it did not warrant a point deduction. If there is injustice then for sure I will say something about it. At no point have I ever said it is okay to elbow the referee, but at the same time we see fighters getting away with an awful lot more in an awful lot of fights. In this instance a warning would have sufficed.
It was unneccessary as was Cortez's constant interference in the final 3rd of the fight. Bullshit officiating does ruin boxing and Cortez is in the middle of it all too often. Jay Nady is another one. Situations like what we saw in the Mayweather-Hatton fight, Barrera-Khan, Barrera-Marquez and again in this one, do nothing but detract from an otherwise potentially very interesting fight. There is no total satisfaction in any of these results because of the impact that poor officiating had. Let's take the Marquez-Barrera fight and let's say Barrera's knockdown was scored. That would have led it to being an even better fight than what we got and even if Barrera had lost, we could all have stood back and said "wow". But as it stands that poor officiating left it's awful stamp all over the fight.
These poor decisions hurt boxing and I am quite sure that I am not alone in thinking this. I thought Khan did an excellent job, but I also thought Maidana ended up making the biggest impact as he overall busted Khan up pretty badly. And because I think Maidana gave a valid account of himself and don't think the deduction was justified have muppets like Rains calling me names and ranting like an imbecile about the evils of Maidana. He's just a fighter, what do you expect? For Maidana to take it a step further and kiss Khan at the end of every round? This is boxing.
As for you Bilbo, leave the politics for the other board. Rains most likely had no idea what you were talking about anyway. :p
