Segura WAS a whole lot bigger. A few inches and a few pounds at that weight makes a lot of difference. All in all, however, I was totally disappointed in Calderon's effort. He fought a HELL of a lot better in their first fight. At least it seemed somewhat competitive while it lasted. This time it was one-sided from the "get-go". I don't know if I'd watch any more of Calderon's fights. He should probably just retire.
:(
Calderon didn't go to Mexico to fight. He went there to collect his last big pay check. Soon as it got tough he quit.

I hate to say it....... but it's hard to disagree with you after watching that fight.

Had Iron Boy been a feather or light weight, everyone would have known his name. Class act. First ballot Hall of Famer. Right in there with Lopez and Wilde. Segura is a class act to. Shame him and Gonzalez won’t go at it.

I gave Calderon a lot of credit for not only taking the rematch right away. But taking it in Mexico. Fool got heart. But after the fight it was obvious he only agreed to fight in Mexico cuz it would get him the biggest check. I wouldn't have a problem if Calderon went down and just couldn't get up. He got his ass kicked by a younger, stronger fighter. It happens. But that wasn't the case here. Calderon actually went to the ropes to look for a place to take a knee. Disappointing.

It IS disappointing. And what's more..... the local press down here, which loves our local fighters but can be pretty harsh at times..... gave Calderon the "third-degree" when he came back from Mexico. Well-deserved, I might add. Matter of fact, Calderon himself admitted he could have gotten back up from the body blows, but chose not to. Bottom line is... if he decides to continue fighting, he's gonna have a hard time winning his fans back.
Re: Ivan Calderon vs Giovanni Segura - II
Calderon is getting a hard time imo. He was getting battered by a bigger man. Have no problem with him 'quitting'.

Yup. Ivan has been an over achiever in a division completely ignored. I bet he never made more then 150 grand a fight.

i know damn well he's made more than that, especially here on the island, given how 90% of his fights were PPV's and he was always the headliner, every fight he's had on the island has sold out, he's made good money better than some of the other guys at the higher weight classes

Not going to fight you man. He's one of my faves but Montiel prior to Donaire was set to make 80 thousand dollars to fight Morel. In a market that pays a group of primadonna's 10 million a fight.

all i'm saying is that if he would have been a bit bigger or had power in his punches he would have been just as big as Cotto and Lopez in popularity, i mean given the handful of decent names that he's dominated and the amount of praise he's gotten by guys like Iole and Rafael you just need to look at his record, his birth date, and it lets you know how special the guy really has been
