I don't really know what your first two paragraphs are in reference to really.

Haye was the one talking about Wlad being 'shook'. It is low level dumb English and spoken in front of an audience. It isn't snobbery to point out that Haye doesn't even know how to speak standard English using correct grammatical forms. Haye was speaking English poorly and in a way that nobody should be using. It was awful.

In the heat of the moment the man had no idea how to use his language. That is the only point I was making. Otherwise I have no idea what you are going on about.

Wlad never strode into such weird unorthodoxies. Maybe it is because he has actually studied the language unlike Haye who gave up at 5 and decided he was quite fluent enough.

Again, I doubt that Haye's syntax/grammar suffered as a result of anything Wlad did or said, it just isn't up to your high standard and unless Haye is planning on hiding a dictionary in his gloves, that a highly developed grasp of the English language is going to help him much in the ring.

I guess it all comes down to what your priorities are and what you put stock in... The David Haye's of the world are probably happy enough making millions than they would be with having a highly developed grasp of English but they pro ably won't waste their time talking about your lack of physical development or accomplishment either... why would they? It's not something that you've chosen to pursue and vice versa.

Bottom line is that Haye's grammar has fuck all to do with this fight... I can't believe it's being discussed... Ridiculous.

Saw the video and not sure in what sense haye was using "shook". if he meant scarred no, if he meant "dam this dudes actually mad and might jump over the table and strangle me" then he might be correct. I think we are all reading way to much into all this junk anyways. we think its a big hwy fight but honestly don't think its any bigger than any of wlads previous bouts. I don't think the average american sports watcher is even aware this is happening, nothing about it on espn or anywhere just hbo advertising it on their other boxing broadcasts.

I am extremely intelligent, but i just be bothered. Haye has awful grammar, the fact that you can't see it speaks volumes. But no it isn't important and I am busy tonight anyway.

It's a basic point about fundamental lingusitics and that fact is that Wlad speaks better English than Haye.

Do we really care about this? I could get into the finer points of language if you really want, but as you realise it doesn't really matter.

I'm from near enough the same area as Haye and 'shook' means someone is scared or nervous. In fact, I think if you used that anywhere in London, people would understand what you mean. I've got a lot of views about Haye as a person & know a hell of a lot more things to make me think less of him than damn near anyone on here, but he in no way speaks bad English. He speaks colloquial English quite articulately and for a guy from South-East London uses very little slang, but one word that really shouldn't be that hard to get the meaning of & it's the end of the world.

Miles, if you were extremely intelligent you'd probably realise that this is a boxing forum... not a linguistics forum. I don't really want to debate whether or not basic social skills fall under the same spectrum as what you would define as intellect though, we'll save that for another day.

The fact remains -

The only thing going into the ring next week are each man's boxing skills... their grammar skills will have their feet up watching the fight on TV.

It would be quite interesting to assess the grammar of some of your favorite boxers and see how well they score... actually fuck it... no it wouldn't.
