Can you believe these cunts aint stopping this

Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
This is such sad viewing. I don't want to see it go on and yet I don't want to see him stopped.

Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
This is the last round I'm watching. This is a one-sided beat down.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
3 rounds left, I can't see Toney getting stopped, he'll survive the 12 rounds.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
I can't stand James Toney, but I hate watching an old boxer take a beating from a guy he would have schooled if he was even a shadow of the fighter he used to be.
This definitely needs to be stopped.

My Prediction Contest score desperately hopes he does.

I turned it off. Sorry your man got stomped. Like you said, everything comes to an end. Maybe Tarver will avenge his defeat.

Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
This stubborn bastard is gonna cost me a fortune here ;D

Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
My stream stopped working after the 8th, is Lebedev actually landing big now? Toneys corner should definetly just pack it in, it's not as if he's going to fight another day.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
How many times has Toney slipped or gone off balance?
Toney is one tough bastard, but he has nothing in him anymore.
Lebedev is still nothing IMO.

He knows it, he just thinks if these Russian fools are gonna pay me a million + to come to Moscow and fight Lebedev., i'm gonna take it.

Lebedev keeps staggering Toney, but he's not pressing the action. He could stop this anytime he wants.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Yea I caught the last round as well for some reason. Lebedev should really be ashamed of himself for not at least trying to end it at some point.. Toney staggered himself any time he threw anything, all you needed to watch was the first round.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Is LEbedev crying? What the fuck is he crying about? He better be upset because he just beat up an old man...
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Toney doesn't get staggered like that, Toney is never not able to land counters, Toney never looks that clumsy. And yet it was Toney.
He hasn't looked great in recent fights, but he was still competitive. Only against Peter was he really rubbish the second time out. But here, he was beyond awful.
Shut out. It just tells you how much boxing fans really know.
It's over. It was one of those fights where the nail was well and truly hammered home.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Best post-fight interview ever.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
The only concern I have for Toney is that he says why even bother after getting drubbed here and balloons up to 300 + lbs and slips into a diabetic coma.
Is he making excuses? Hopefully not and ends it.

Listen to be fair to Lebedev, a lot of people thought Toney would give him a boxing lesson tonight and he went out there and dominated. However, unless its Tarver, enough of fighting the senior circuit. I mean really.

To be fair I think boxing fans were really just hoping Toney could manage to regain some kind of form after trimming down, and had he been able to whatsoever he probably would've won. For as horribe as Toney has looked the past few years this was a new level of shite that noone could have been sure of except for people who really had some inside information as to how Toney looked in camp or something. How sad that he still looked soft as hell at 200, I posted a few months ago that his pituitary gland among other things were likely just fucked and the fact that his body composition was the same after shedding 40 lbs is pretty solid evidence of this.

Does that happen with age?

Nah man, a lot of people were partial to Toney and HOPED that he could muster up some kind of last hurrah after losing the weight. If he had any of his faculties in tact he would have given the guy a boxing lesson, Lebedev sucks imo.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
I just can't get over just how out of sorts Toney was. Losing is fair enough, but the number of times he fell off balance or was swinging and missing by a yard is just mind blowing.
At least Jones looked very sharp in spots, but Toney looked like an OAP from the off or at least after the 'leg injury'.
He clearly did something to his leg early on and I thought that was a factor. But if not, then it is incredible how someone as skillful as Toney has fallen.
Just nothing at all, I would have expected him to at least land something but there was almost nothing coming back that wasn't a hayemaker that made him fall over.

Not really to that extent, it happens with repeated trauma to the head and terribly low testerone and growth hormones levels. With practically any other type of athlete or even many fighters they are still able to maintain a reasonable muscle mass many years after they lose their faculties. It's not as if Toney didnt put it any work to lose the weight he is just a ruin.

Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
I agree with p4pking, I think Lebedev is shit too.
I think this is simply testament to the end of James Toney. At 42 he simply was too old and had been too fat and for far too long. I was worried that he was going to be stopped on at least a dozen occasions. That is not James Toney.
He was wobbling all over the place and looked spent coming into the championship rounds. To think how just a few years ago that was when Toney would come on and would dazzle his opponents with combinations and counter so effectively off of the ropes.
Today it was all gone. He could slip punches, but the quality was gone and he could not counter. He was reduced to being a one trick pony with the right hand counter being his only weapon. And it wasn't much of a weapon.
I'm gutted really.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
I believe what there needs to be, is a washed up/shot, American old farts Super-six tourney, with Toney, RJJ, Tarver, Hopkins, Holyfield, and Tyson all participating. The winner gets free care at a nursing home of their choice.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
However, I am convinced that Toney hurt his leg and no way would he ever dream of pulling a Hopkins. You saw him looking weird early on after doing that. I said as much earlier, he must have hurt his leg. No way could he have just got that shot. He seldom pivoted correctly and was continuously falling over.

Why be gutted? This was totally predictable, especially with the odds being 13-1 in Levedev's favor. As for James, he's none the worse for wear after this one, and got final decent payday, no need to feel sorry for his ass.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Dunno about that Miles; I think he was definetly that shot, just a physical wreck of the highest order.
Tarver doesn't really belong in the same breath as Toney Roy or Holyfield at this point, I thought he still looked perfectly capable against Green and he did have a much later start to his career. Age is the only thing he shares with those guys and I'd like to see Lebedev take him on, I think Tarver wins that one.

When one of your favourite fighters loses badly you feel bad too.
It was the same thing with Hatton/Pac, I get into it all and really will them to do these incredible things and when it falls flat you feel a bit bleak.
It's not very nice seeing James Toney being wobbled all over the shop by a fighter that will never accomplish a quarter of what someone like Toney has.

Perhaps, but I don't want to see Toney fight anymore. I don't want him to take any more head shots and I want him to quit talking about the 'Bitchko sisters'. I never want to see him stopped.
I'm still flabbergasted how he was wobbling after throwing punches and receiving punches that really didn't seem that hard and would certainly have never phased him in the past and yet had him reeling everywhere.
The timing for me was perhaps the most shocking thing and the telegraphing of punches. He would throw a punch and miss by massive distances. You could see when he was throwing that it could never land and for him to be unable to see that despite all his knowledge and experience. It was surreal. The fight was extremely surreal.
It was a Toney fight like no other and it has to be the end.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
But did he injure his leg? Apparently in the post fight interview he mumbled about this....is that true? I missed the interview. If the leg was injured though it would explain a lot.
To perform like that is beyond shot, he had to be injured and he showed clear signs of being injured.

It's always sad to see pugs fighting way past their prime, but more often than not it's about making money. It's not like Toney or RJJ for that matter, don't know what they're doing, and as long as someone is willing to pay them well, they're gonna take it. Do I feel sorry for them? Nope not at all.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
You don't go from being James Toney to being Andrew Hartley with a chin. It just doesn't happen. I'm very upset by the result and clearly Toney is past his best, but I am going to wait on knowing what the deal is with the leg first. There has to be a reason why Toney was so tragic and relying on the ONE counter move all night.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
The leg slip was obvious, we all saw it. Toney hurt himself, I commented on it. Now if he couldn't pivot properly then that takes away half of your gameplan. That has to have been a factor in Toney's performance.
I just cannot buy that he was simply THAT shot. This is James Toney! Since when does Toney not land ANY meangingful punches?
It doesn't add up. Sure he can lose, but he can land a few on the way to losing a decision. It just doesn't add up.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Now I've just seen the interview and Toney mentioned it, but didn't want to bitch about it. The man hurt his leg and fought with one leg. That is seemingly quite clear. It would also explain everything in the performance too. Toney is not what he was, but he was injured and wouldn't do a Hopkins.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
I'm seeing it quite differently now and see a reason and logic behind what happened this evening. Toney is old, but it isn't simply because he got old. He fucked himself up early on and battled on through. Since when has Toney ever pushed the quit button? And even in doing that his opponent couldn't stop him.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Actually it completely does add up, the weight he lost was clearly as much muscle as fat(if he managed to shed any). The fact that he may have been that size or smaller at one point is moot considering he has spent the last 8 or 9 years well above this weight.
He looked absolutely useless from the very opening moments of the fight , and has shown steady decline for many years now. It was very clear he wasn't going to be generating any power at all and even his punch resistance looked to have seriously waned. He could still slip punches on muscle memory and due to Lebedevs being fairly average, thats about it. Just because there has been a slew of guys operating on a high level into their forties lately doesn't take away what it means for most people, especially those who have never taken care of their body in the first place and have serious medical issues as a result of concussions etc.
There was also no real precident of a guy dropping that much weight at his age and not being a complete shell.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Toney did the same thing in Peter 2 but got the injury in training and wouldn't postpone. There is a clear logic to it all. Toney quite simply doesn't look that bad....ever. Peter 2 is the last time he ever looked that bad. Even in his poorest form he is typically competitive to some degree.
Would anyone suggest that Lebedev could beat Sam Peter....even today? No, Lebedev would be hit hard and often and yet suddenly Toney cannot do that against Lebedev even in double digits?
This was just wrong.
-
Re: James Toney is back! Toney/Lebedev live!
Even if you want to attribute a good part of his performance to the "injury", that in itself was probably a result of what terrible condition he was in. Noone can operate entirely on skill alone, you have to be physically capable if you want to beat anyone remotely decent.
-

Sure Miles, make Sam Peter drop down to 199 pounds and see how he holds up;)
