As Mayorga comes to the end of his career, how can you compare his career to Miranda's who is relatively young and getting started?
Mayorga took beatings from De la Hoya and Trinidad, Had Miranda met Trinidad and Oscar at that time in their careers p4p there is a strong possibility that Miranda would have beaten them.
When has Mayorga ever been competitive with a man at the top of his division? Miranda broke Abrahams jaw in a good fight. I don't really rate Vernon Forrest.
When has Mayorga ever been in the ring with a current pound for pound guy? Miranda was in there with Pavlik?
In boxing because a fighter holds a title he is not necessarily better than one who doesn't. Case and Point Charley Burley ans Sam Langford.

First off i normally find you a very good poster Donny but i have to be honest with you, your comment about Miranda *may* of beat ODLH or Tito is ridiculous. I think your forgetting this is the same Miranda who could not beat Abraham despite Abraham's jaw being badly broken. Plus Miranda was also dropped by a 50 percent Allen Green, who was uninterested and wasn't even throwing any damn punches. ODLH and Tito even at that stage in there career's where at a much higher level than Miranda can ever dream of getting near.
When has Mayorga ever been competitive with a man at the top of the division ?? Vernon Forrest who was just coming off giving Mosley a beating. And wasn't Mosley P4P number 1 ?? You don't really rate Vernon Forrest but you rate Arthur Abraham ?? that really makes sense. Cory Spinks was also one of the top fighters in Welterweight division when Mayorga fought him, and a lot of people also thought Mayorga got robbed.
I hope you didn't take my comments offensively im just being honest with you i think your way off the mark here.

The arguement that Mayorga decides to slug it disguising his boxing skill is also applicable to Miranda.
Should Miranda focus less on his power I belive he can box quite effectively. Although out hustled, the fight with Abraham showed moments of decent boxing form Miranda, as did the blow out of Banks.
Mayorga however struggeled with Fernado Vargas. A way past it Fernado Vargas. If Mayorga could box that competently, he wouldn't have chosen to slug it out with Vargas at a higher weight than he was comfortable as we've all seen Vargas out boxed by both De la Hoya and Mosely.
You're seeing what you want to see and ignoring what you don't. Mayorga downed Trinidad and rocked De La Hoya. Miranda at no point in the fight had anything for Pavlik. Mayorga struggled with Vargas at a weight far above anything he'd ever fought at. He said himself he never wanted to see 168 again. And guess what else? He won the fight.
Miranda after the Pavlik fight was typical boxer-who'd-just-been-beaten talk. He was weight drained, camp didn't go right, things didn't click in the fight like they did in camp, his dog died-CRAP. Pavlik and his people are excellent at seeing exactly what a fighter's weaknesses are. Miranda didn't know what to do when someone came straight at him and made him back up and his punches didn't have their usual pop because he was constantly on his heels.
The argument is moot, regardless. Trying to parse out whose better between two club fighters like Mayorga and Miranda is like trying to determine between ass herpes and staphylococcus of the balls which is the worse disease. Edison Miranda will be beaten pillar to post if he steps in with Mikkel Kessler. Kessler will reign as the SMW champ and in short order.
Re: Miranda vs Kessler - ALMOST A DONE DEAL!
Dan Rafael from ESPN stated today, that the deal is done, and it will be May 10th, on Showtime.

I don't think Kessler will try to back up Miranda like Pavlik did, I think it's more likely that he'll just outbox him, set traps, and let Miranda walk into right hands all night.
Re: Miranda vs Kessler - ALMOST A DONE DEAL!
Does anyone know where the fight is going to take place? I heard Kessler was done boxing... glad to hear that seemingly that is not the case.
Re: Miranda vs Kessler - ALMOST A DONE DEAL!
Its ridiculous in the 1st place to compare Mayorga and Miranda and how the hell they would do against ODLH and Trinidad.. Miranda is 168 lbs for chrise sakes!!!
Forrest beat Shane good the 1st time with a little help from a Head Butt and the 2nd fight was hardly anything that resembles a beating so lets debunk that exaggeration... Mayorga is shiit always has been always will be he is slow and winds his punches up and uses his face as a catchers mitt.. Got a chin from hell though;D
Miranda was struggling to make 160 and besides Pavlik kicking his ass and backing him up Clearly Edison was drained and lethargic albeit he got tore up like Britneys cooch he was drained.. Miranda is a big strong motherfwocker and 168 suits him perfectly and will give a good account of himself even if he gets outboxed by a technically superior Kessler

On the ESPN website it says May 24th. ESPN - Miranda, Kessler agree to meet in 168-pound bout - Boxing
So it says on Maxboxing by the way.
However promoter Bettina Palle said today that nothing is signed yet, although she confirmed the fight is close to being a reality. My guess is it will be finalised in the next few days (i.e. after the Palle-card tonight has taken place).

I think you're a wee bit confused. Nobody was comparing Mayorga or Miranda to ODLH or Trinidad. They were being compared to one another and Mayorga is the one who fought Trinidad and ODLH. You do know Mayorga isn't staying at 168, right? I was calling both of them club fighters, of which Mayorga is the better of the two.
Miranda will give a good accounting of himself until he gets blasted out again by a superior opponent. That crap he said about the L against Pavlik was just that-crap. Notice he didn't call Kelly out to stay at 168 so he could avenge himself. The same thing would happen. The real question is what's Miranda going to say after he gets his head handed to him a 2nd time?

Well then Dan mis-reported the date in his chat, because in his live chat today he said May 10th, and that's were I got the info from. So I'll blame it on Dan. :)
Re: Miranda vs Kessler - ALMOST A DONE DEAL!
I skipped over the whole Miranda, Mayorga argument.
But I have to give a ton of credit to Miranda for always looking at the top guys. Always trying to get big fights. He's been in against seriously dangerous fighters and not matched against tons of easy fights. He's a throwback, and I like his attitude in taking the best.
Credit to Kessler also. Not a stepping stone comeback fight, in against a real dangerous and hungry fighter. This is a great fight.

Well, thanks for the info btw!
I haven't been able to post in this thread before today, but the Palle-camp said to Danish medias a few days ago (before this thread) that they were negotiating. At that time it was being said that HBO (and yes, it said HBO) wanted the fight for May 10, but Palle/Kessler preferred June. I guess May 24th is a compromise :) But again, nothing seem to be signed.
Also, in the article from tuesday evening with Palle confirming the negotiations, it was being said that Kessler is an attractive opponent, and that he had also just received an offer to fight in England. That sentence left me wondering, but after Inkin later pulled out, I guess it made a lot more sense.
