Fighting Hopkins at 170lbs may well be too much for Kelly to prodict a stoppage is 1, Brave or 2, Foolhardy.
Ya Shizz?
That might be one of the most ironic things I've ever read on here. I needed a good laugh today, thanks for that.
Part of me wants Pavlik to lose because a % of his following is blindly insane. The other part wants him to win so Joe gets him and really tears him up.
Either way i want an end to this Pavlik lunacy its worse than Cottos fans were 2-3yrs ago and over taken Pacquiaos nuts.
Its a shame as a lot of Pavliks fans are knowledgeable and objective.

Re: Pavlik Vs Hopkins Poll
I think this might be where we see hopkins refuse to go out being beaten up. I could see some low blows, head butts, rabbit punching. I think this is going to be a nasty fight. And look for pavlik to get cut up a little. I don't think he will get out unscathed by any means, but I also don't think that he will endure a lot of punishment (if that makes any sense :P).
Hopkins was really on that level at the end of the Calzaghe fight. He had nothing left except for hes weak cries to the ref. That still bothers me about that fight. Calzaghe tagged that A$$! haha. Whats it with the Brits humping all the good American fighters? (Hatton PBF)
Pavlik wins disqualification Hopkins.

Listen. Pavlik's following is deserved. His punches pack a wallop. His defense is porous. He is an action fighter. He brings the fight to his opponent. He has a KO rate of 90%. All this makes for fan friendly fights. Name the last Pavlik fight that didn't entertain you? I guess the one-sided beat-down of Enzo's boy wasn't much of a contest, but I think arguing it wasn't entertaining would be going too far. All this and the guy is only 26. He took on Jermain Taylor when he was 25.
Are his abilities overrated? Possibly. It is undisputed that he is a one dimensional fighter, but so far it has worked.
Bernard will be a big test for Kelly. If Kelly beats down Bernard, doing what Calzaghe couldn't do, then I think not only does Kelly deserve his following, but he isn't overrated as a fighter either. Granted, I don't think that will happen.
I agree Calzaghe should be favored if Kelly and Joe were to meet next year. I don't think Joe wants any part of Kelly because the risk/reward ratio. Kelly doesn't have the Hopkins RJJ name, and he is more likely to knock you out.

Calzaghe is much much faster though, I think Hopkins will have an easier time slipping Pavliks shots and countering. Whether he would get the decision in such an event, I don't know, but Pavlik has never fought anyone with footwork and ring craft like Hopkins. Hop doesn't throw much, Pavlik could grind out a decision based on that I guess but I Can't for the life of me see how people actually think Pavlik is going to stop Hopkins at 175 pounds, where he has never fought. This isn't Miranda or Taylor, Hopkins isn't chinny, he doesn't have bad habits, and he is just to cagey to be stopped by anyone out there currently imo. Of course there's always the chance Hopkins has lost everything since fighting Calzaghe... But to me, you'd have to bank on that in order to actually think Pavlik will get the stoppage. Hopkins has never been hurt by a punch in his career, how can you be remotely confident picking Pavlik to STOP him. Like Hopkins is going to back straight up into a corner with his hands low if he get's rocked? And to me, even that is a big IF.
Not a bad post. I think it is entirely possible that Hopkins could win a close decision. Don't sleep on Pavlik's punching power, but I agree NO ONE knocks out Bernard. He has chin for days. Compared to Pavlik, Calzaghe is faster and throws a lot of punches, but there is nothing on them. Pavlik throws a lot of punches and the punches sting. Pavlik hsa a chin too, he shook off Jermain's biggest punches and came back to knock him out. I agree that Hopkins will slip a lot of the punches and test Pavlik's chin with a couple of counters, but at the end of the day Pavlik will win on a UD.
Again, if Pavlik does knock Bernard out, will that convince you he is the real deal? Or just that Bernard was too old?

Im a Pavlik fan you cannot dislike the guy! its the nut jobs that think he is the second coming of Christ. Pavlik is a limited power punching brawler that will find against Hopkins that unless he adds a dimension he will not hang with a Calzaghe, Kessler, Bute.
Do not mistake me as a Pavlik hater, im a realist. Problem is Pavliks fans have what i call "power punch syndrome" in which he gains a good fowllowing and in that following are total tards that trash every fighter in and around his weight whilst proclaim their man as Jesus b2b God b2b Zelenoffs lack of heart.
I remember the same happened in the Uk with Nigel Benn, people get blinded by power and so-called "white collar"
Lets hope Pavlik can be 50% of what Benn was.

Pavlik can't hang with Kessler? That's ridiculous. Does Kessler have a chin to handle a Pavlik punch? He backed out of a fight with Miranda and fought two club fighters over the past year.
Bute has only one convincing win on his resume: Sakio Bika. A fight with Bute would never happen because who outside of Montreal knows anything about Bute?
I give Joe the edge in a fight with Pavlik although I was a bit dismayed he took the fight with RJJ rather than fight Pavlik, you should hope that isn't indicative of any doubt. Remember what Pavlik did to his stablemate. Didn't that guy retire after the fight?
Answer me this: what if Pavlik beats Bernard in a better fashion than Joe beat Bernard? Gains your respect?

Pavlik has my respect. I said unless he changes he wont beat Kessler. Taylor who is a 8rd fighter took Pavlik all the way. And again Kessler fights at 168lbs in no way will Pavlik be a murderous puncher at that weight.
The loony 10% of Kellys fans will be brought down to earth after Hopkins its a 50-50 fight and in no way one sided unless Hopkins lands a bomb.

Re: Pavlik Vs Hopkins Poll
A win on the cards for Pavlik is most lightly IMO.But if he can stop old bore Hopkins that will be a great acevement.
Re: Pavlik Vs Hopkins Poll
look Mark why are you always saying things about Taylor. Let me tell you somthing Taylor fought and beat better competion then both Kessler and Bute have so i dont see how they are much better. I mean Pavlik and Taylor have won and done just as much if not more. Tell you truth i would not rule out Kessler getting knocked out by Pavlik considering he was rocked by Calzaghe a fighter who does not have power anymore and less power then Taylor if you want to bring up Pavlik knock down. Now that i think about Taylor and Calzaghe share the same best win expect Taylor got a younger version in his best weight class and beat him. I thought Taylor did a better job on Hopkins in the first fight then Calzaghe did and the second Taylor fight was about equal with Joe proformance. If Pavlik does a better job on Hopkins then Calzaghe did then his best win won mean much now while it. Pavlik and Taylor are not perfect but neither Kessler and but difference is that Taylor and Pavlik fought better competion then the other guys are so thats all i am going to say.

Well i certainly know about Lucian Bute he is the only fighter who has ever stopped Kabary Salem, who heavily dropped Joe Calzaghe. And gave Joe Calzaghe 12 tough/awkward rounds.
He also stopped Alejandro Berrio who isn't a bad fighter, and has a very high KO percentage. Sakio Bika say what you want about him, but no one has had an easy time with Sakio Bika.
Including Joe Calzaghe who received a very tough physical fight, where he looked like he was fading a bit near the end of the fight. Lucian Bute beat Sakio Bika more convincing than anyone else has including Joe Calzaghe.
And now Lucian Bute is fighting Librado Andrade so he is willing, to fight the top fighters in the Super Middleweight division. I've told people from last year Lucian Bute is the dark horse of the division, and he will suprise many people.

I too like what I've seen from Lucian Bute albeit against primarily limited opposition.
Let's not forget, Salem was 37 when he faced Bute and was coming off of two straight losses. For all of his toughness, Salem hadn't faced any big-time opposition. Berrio is another tough boxer who also has never faced big-time opposition.
Like I said earlier, Bute's biggest win was against Bika. Bika is a beast and I give Bute credit for dominating him.
I am curious to see how he'll perform against Andrade. Kessler dominated Andrade, but couldn't stop him. Will Bute stop Andrade? Andrade has a granite chin. Andrade also has 8 inches in reach on Bute!
If Bute beats Andrade, I think it will be fare to say that Bute can beat limited boxers with granite chins: Salem, Bika, and Andrade (if). His next challenge should be a good athlete that can box.

Again its styles, this version of Hopkins is going to be very hard for a straight foward fighter to beat him. Winky couldnt do it neither could Tarver. Pavlik has 3 basic punches a jab, right cross and uppercut. I think Hopkins will not have to try and solve Pavlik but Pavlik need to solve Hopkins.
