He's still sticking with Jose Santiago.
While I do not know very much about Santiago, I can't image that's a good decision considering Cotto is going up against the best fighter in the sport who is trained by arguably the best trainer in the sport. Roach, as much as I dislike him, is a master of putting together the right gameplan and Cotto is going to need an experienced trainer who can counter it.

That's his best bet. Even though he's changed a lot, Pacquiao was KO'd by a bodyshot from a guy that throws with a fraction of Cotto's power. No amount of technique and training will fix that though it may alleviate it. If Cotto wants win he needs to go downstairs big time.
pac changed alot and is not struggling to make weight so his body is pretty conditioned. for every bodypunch cotto throws pac will surely give two more in return. alot of boxers tried to go to pacs body pac usually stops that by bodypunching back.

I'm a Pac fan as well as a Cotto fan, but of course I'll be rooting for my hometown fighter here (Cotto). People that write off Cotto point to Pac's two victories at 140 or higher... DLH and Hatton. Let's start with DLH. As much as I thoroughly enjoyed (and could watch over and over) Pac's destruction and humiliation of Oscar, even I admit it wasn't the same Oscar. It was a shell of the old Oscar, and everyone knows it. Of course, kudos to Pac and his camp, because they had no way of knowing this beforehand, and still took a great chance.
Now for Hatton. There is NO WAY IN HELL that Cotto should EVER be confused with Hatton. Hatton proved for all to see that he didn't belong in the same neighborhood, much less in the same ring, as Pacquiao. All this pre-fight hype and Hatton saying he was fighting for the world's p4p title... HAH! He was exposed in a vicious two-round annihilation. No defense... rudimentary boxing skills... suspect chin.
Cotto, on the other hand, is a proven warrior at 147 with all the tools. Over different fights in the past, he's shown speed and boxing skills (Mosley), heart and guts (Clottey), power (Quintana).
It won't be easy for EITHER fighter. In fact, it's gonna be one of the more entertaining fights in recent history. Why? Because both fighters leave it all in the ring, and neither one is going to back down.
My only concern is that Pacquaio does pack a good punch and is a slick southpaw, not a comfortable opponent for any fighter.
But it's gonna be a hell of a war. Can't wait!!

I'm going with Cotto, I didn't read through the entire thread but has anyone asked how Pacquiao would deal with Clottey? Clottey is a tough SOB & would give anyone trouble! I think to many are discounting Cotto based on that last fight & how good Manny looked against Hatton. But imo Clottey was a much tougher opponent than Hatton going in...
I think it will be a great fight, but Cotto's my pick!

Yeah, I wish that Miguel had someone with more experience coming into this fight with him, but I have to trust that Miguel knows what he is doing. Miguel is extremely smart in the ring, and knows how to make adjustments as necessary. I think Manny will probably win the early rounds on speed and output, but Manny has never been in the ring with someone with Miguel's power. I think Miguel will break him down with those body shots eventually, and take over the fight to win by late TKO.
People keep saying that Miguel isn't the same since the Margacheato fight. I ask how? He did exactly what he should have done against Jennings, and he fought a tough fight against Clottey with one eye. Seriously though, name one fighter that has looked good against Clottey? He's the kind of fighter that it is extremely hard to look good against, let alone do it with a severe handicap.
I'm actually kind of glad that a lot of people are underestimating Cotto, it will make it that much sweeter for me when he wins. ;D
Actually, this is the kind of fight that I hate, because I am a fan of both fighers, and I know that both fighters are going to leave everything they have in the ring, therefore I hate that someone has to lose.

This is the best post in this thread, very objective and analytical.
Re: Cotto or Pac-Man,who will win???VOTE NOW
Both these guys are elite fighters and will capitalize on each others mistakes. Both have a real chance.
I'm going with Cotto on this one. I know that people who have their money on Pac say "speed kills" but "timing is everything". I think Cotto's jab, body attack, strength and timing will break down and KO Pacquiao. I also feel that stylistically the match-up favors Cotto. He fights best moving forward and I feel he will be able to press the slightly smaller Pac-man.
Part of the fun of these fights is speculation. We'll all see what will really happen come Nov.
I'm just glad that these two greats made the fight happen.
Re: Cotto or Pac-Man,who will win???VOTE NOW
Let me start by saying the Pre-Margarito Cotto would KO Pac with a body shot in probably the fifth. However part of Miguel's "swagger" was lost in that fight (a bit Taylor- Chavez ish). Miguel used to go in there and to quote Jim Lampley "he doesn't just beat you, he beats you up". Manny's swagger is as high as it will ever be as he's just destroyed 2 ELITE fighters as if they were sparring partners(yes we can call speculate as to what shape they were in but the fact of the matter is they are elite fighters). The key to beating Manny is the starigt rigt hand and the left hand dominant Cotto will have trouble keeping Pac off of him and will fight at Pac's pace. Manny comes out firing early but Miguel holds his own but by about the 8th round the punishment will acumulate and Cotto will backpedal & Manny will not make the same mistake Clottey did.
PAC TKO11

i have no clue....thats why i am tunning in ....very interesting fight
Re: Cotto or Pac-Man,who will win???VOTE NOW
I say that people will vote Manny now purely on the fact he keeps defying logic, but, this time he is surely going to get derailed IMO. Stop that train......
Re: Cotto or Pac-Man,who will win???VOTE NOW
This is a very intriguing match up lots of ifs and buts, one of the main points for me is can Manny take Cottos power, if he can Miguel's going to loose end of, Manny's on a roll, his body's at its peak right now loads of fluid round the brain because he has no weight to loose, on the other hand Cotto's got to come in lighter than he has done in a while and has less fluid round his brain to cushion Pacs shots. If Margarito can land on Cotto surely Manny can more so, I am not saying its as easy as that to predict this fight as I would not be surprised if either fighter one but its just something to take into consideration :)
Re: Cotto or Pac-Man,who will win???VOTE NOW
Both Pac and Cotto will win considering that both are guarantee millions of dollars plus a percentage of the PPV numbers and it should be 900k and up.
In this economy they both come out on top, regardless who wins.
